I thought I remembered it being a pretty big hit. That hit was also a wall.

yeah but go back and check it out. When it happened it was thought of as a softer crash at first and people were perplexed until the math behind the force was brought to light.
He was turned sideways and drove five feet into the wall and didn't look like he hit it hard at all.

But the point being is racers are extremely well protected. Nothing really even hit him in the chest directly. Just the force of hitting the wall created g’s enough to kill him.
What i recall anyhow.

They weren't as well protected then. He hit the wall at about 160 miles and hour, but it was both the impact with the wall and the impact with the other car that caused extreme force. His head unprotected, whipped forward and his skull fractured at the base killing him instantly.

Since then there have been a lot more protections put in place.

I was reading a bunch of comments on Reddit debating what neurologically intact means. Some medical staff weighed in and they said it most likely means he's responding to stimuli, but not necessarily awake and talking.

I see. The tweet makes it sound like he has no deficits. I guess we will see. He keeps improving though so that is a very good sign.

Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin is awake in a Cincinnati hospital, his agent and a teammate said Thursday morning, eliciting immediate relief and joy from supporters across the nation three days after the 24-year-old’s in-game cardiac arrest.

Hamlin, who had been sedated during his hospitalization, is awake and has been holding hands with family in the hospital, his agent Ron Butler told CNN.

“Our boy is doing better, awake and showing more signs of improvement. Thank you God,” one of Hamlin’s teammates, Bills cornerback Kaiir Elam, tweeted Thursday morning.

Hamlin has shown “substantial improvement” in the last 24 hours, and “it appears that his neurological condition and function is intact,” Dr. Timothy Pritts, vice chair for clinical operations at UC Health, said Thursday afternoon in a news conference.

Still, Hamlin is critically ill and is being cared for the University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s intensive care unit, Pritts said.

“He still has significant progress that he needs to make, but this marks a really good turning point in his ongoing care,” Pritts said.
 
Some doctors have pointed out that awake doesn't mean necessarily the same thing as any of us being awake. They said someone can be awake but not have neurological function. I really hope he continues to improve.
 
Must say that the Seahawks have really surprised me this season. Hats off to them and especially to Geno Smith.

Just very thankful my Jags were able to win that game last night, our first division title since 2017!
 
I’m a Niners fan. Don’t care much for the Seahawks but I wouldn’t mind them getting in the playoffs. Easier team for the Niners to beat. Never like playing Rogers.
 
Lions has been eliminated and still playing hard and still playing all their starters. NBA would have rested all their stars if they’re out of the playoffs. This is why NFL are better than the NBA. Imagine a Kawhi Leonard or a Paul George playing while Clippers is out of the playoffs
