Good luck and good riddance... looking forward to the next rebuild in a year or two. For those thinking that this roster of players will develop into a team like the Spurs, or develop into a team capable of making it past the 1st round, you're dreaming.

Goodbye Aldridge!!! You soft pussy! I will no longer have to bear your stat padding shitty jumpers. Good riddance!!

His nickname was LA people. We should have known he was going to fuck us over.

We all know that LMA isn't the most efficient shooter; how will that translate in SA where he won't be getting as many shots as he had the chance to shoot here? Or do you expect Pop to demand that LMA plays closer to the basket for higher % shots? I see tons of PnR action between him and Timmy.

On the Spurs, I expect Lamarcus to look like he did in 4 allstar games...his numbers are going to plummet

I don't get it (dumb today).

Neil has shown that he's an intelligent guy, and not one to operate without foresight.
This has the hallmarks of Paul Allen telling him that he couldn't trade Aldridge.

With that in mind, I think Neil has done an exceptional job of operating, essentially with his hands tied.

What?

Yeah, if Paul Allen tied Olshey's hands then all criticism is bull and undeserved.

It seems extremely plausible that either Paul nixed the idea of trading LMA altogether, believing like any good fan that LMA would not shit on us, or that Paul nixed each specific trade proposal that Neil brought him as an insufficient return for LMA.

I don't see any reason to criticize NO's role in all this - most likely he did his job very well with the cards he was dealt. The returns aren't all in yet though - now that the cards are on the table and there is no longer any reason to pretend/hope that LMA will return, it's time for Neil to make some more moves. My bet is that he's already got things in the pipeline ready to be announced when the time is ripe...

I 100% agree. I think we will make the playoffs and he's gonna surprise the shit out of people. Best stay quiet and do your job. When the dust settles, we maybe saying "Aldridge who?"

And when push comes to shove, Neil did at least a few things right. We don't have any cap crippling dead money contracts, we have a lot of youth, we still have a few guys with as yet unknown potential (that can cut both ways admittedly) and the only real long-term commitment is to a guy coming off of a few All-Star appearances.

We're going to be shit, but at least we're not in a position of zero flexibility like we were back in the early to mid aughts, so at least there's the hope of a (semi) quick turn-around.

The West is too loaded, but that's OK. Being shitty for a year or two might be the best thing for us in the long run.

I wouldn't be too sure. There are the sure fire tops: GS, Spurs, Memphis, Houston, Dallas. Clips, us, Nola, Phoenix and maybe Utah will fight this season for the final 3 spots

Looks like a 4 year deal which means he gets to take advantage of a second huge contract before he's out of his prime. So really it means the Blazers fifth year and extra money really wasn't all that competitive in his decision making.
I doubt it was even serious - the deal was sealed when they turned the crown over to Lillard, but it was forgone conclusion before the season's end. Hell, LA had put his house on the market.

New Orleans, Phoenix and Utah all have better starting fives than us and better benches.

I'm not trying to piss in your cheerios, but this is going to be a rough, rough year. A) It takes time to build cohesion, B) young teams are notoriously poor on defense (see A) and C) beyond Lillard and possibly McCollum we have a real dearth of scoring - points are going to be hard to come by and we won't be good enough defensively to win at that end of the court (I'll revise that stance if Neil fires Stotts and hires Thibbodeau).

Yes with the team we have now. If Portland don't make any more moves, then your statement is absolutely true. I have a feeling that Olshey isn't done.

Spurs signed their entire team back and we couldn't resign one f_cking player. I am sorry. Would someone please f-cking purpose of having a personal department. We don't even have players with starting experience..... please explain the point of having a team!

To your latter question:
- to present sports starved Portland with a lone major league team (No, fuutbal, doesn't count)
- to sell ridiculously overpriced beer to those same sport-starved fans
- It's actually a social engineering experiment to determine the breaking point of the Winter NW sports fan

Fair enough.
