Aldridge wants to play in Chicago?

I feel bad for new posters who push PapaG's buttons.

Little do they know....

Wes is a decent starting SG. Its not a "glaring hole".

We don't even have a center, so we definitely need that...bench will take a year to fill out with random signings, trades and teh young rookies getting more burn.

See, you're thinking backwards...and that's my main problem with your (and others) way of thinking.

How are you supposed to get a star player (like Aldridge or someone on that level) if you only have a bunch of journeymen type players who eat up the cap room and you're not bad enough to get a top 3 pick in the draft.

Filling out a bench is easy. Every team does it. What's hard is getting a star player in the league, they are an indemand quantity. You get the stars, then fill in the holes. We're in the process of filling the holes in. We have cap space, draft picks and young talent...we're in an ideal situation in a logical rebuild process. By trading the star away and then just getting journeyman talent, you're basically making it necessary to push the rebuild process until those guys contracts are over and you can have enough cap space to sign a guy like LaMarcus Aldridge.

Filling out the bench is easy? How long has it been since we had a decent backup point guard? Greg Anthony? We haven't had a truly good bench since the early 2000s. Portland isn't exactly a popular destination for free agents. I'm just curious how exactly we're going to bring in these key bench players that will round out our roster.

And this is all assuming Aldridge doesn't, in fact, want to leave.

Cap space and draft picks. Make other trades...i mean you make it seem like signing guys that are an upgrade from luke babbitt and nolan smith is some complex task that requires us to trade aldridge quickly.

We had a historically bad bench because Neil didn't want long term contracts. It won't be that hard. Trading away your star player in the middle of a progressive rebuild for lesser talent is really really dumb.

You are in denial my friend.

Bucher
Amico
Goliver
Rice

etc etc etc

These aren't coming from bleacher report. I'm not sure what you want exactly. It's obvious that the Blazers are at least listening to offers. The point is that you, and others, are throwing a tantrum because of these rumors. Rather than discuss them, you go into every thread and bash the other posters and complain about how it's unrealistic.

WTF are you talking about?

You need to step back and take a breather. Especially after posts like this:

This is my favorite time of the year and some of you negative Nancy's are ruining it.

No posters (with the exception of Mags) are getting emotional or "throwing a tantrum" because there is a possibility of LMA being traded. Instead, posters other than you and brian are being reasonable and not making assumptions about things we really don't have insider information about.

Everybody here wants to see Portland get better, whether that involves trading LMA or not.

You and brian are more interested in seeing him traded just so you can claim you were "right" and "saw it coming", and have posters apologize to you.

So if Aldridge is traded tomorrow, or sometime this summer, will you post a public apology to the people who saw it coming? I'm just curious.

Why in the world would anybody owe an apology for saying "we don't know if LMA actually wants to leave Portland".

The idea that you would expect an apology for that is mind boggling.

Okay.... are you a PapaG alt account? This post screams PapaG.

My point, is that only a few people, yourself included, feel the need to go into these threads and call other people idiotic and stupid for posting their thoughts on the Aldridge situation. Yes, I think telling someone their opinion is idiotic and stupid deserves an apology if proven right down the road. Calling someone stupid is much worse than telling them they are behaving childish and throwing a tantrum.

1) I didn't call anybody idiotic or stupid. I said the strategy is atrocious.
2) There will be no apologies for calling an idea stupid. We're saying it is stupid to be "100% certain" he's leaving. Even if he DOES leave, it's still stupid to think that it's a 100% guarantee at this point.
3) Nobody called you stupid. Stop whining and building strawmen.

Stop kicking and screaming because you don't like what you're seeing/hearing.

What's easier, finding a all star talent or finding back ups and role players?

well, last year we drafted Lillard, and we signed Freeland/Sasha/Jeffries/Ronnie.

How far in your head am I?

I didn't call anybody idiotic or stupid. I found their trade ideas to be idiotic and stupid.

So only those with stupid ideas are allowed to post their stupid ideas in multiple, and I mean MULTIPLE, threads? Those who find the repetition of the stupid ideas are supposed to be confined to one thread, though?

Got it. Seems very childish...

Then you aren't reading my responses. I have no idea if he'll be traded. But I do know that trading him out of fear, and especially for pieces to "fill roster holes" is a terrible strategy.

If you want to discuss strategies, then at least read what I type, because I never said I don't think he'll be traded. But you're too busy whining and trying be be right about something.

This is classic. You're telling others that they are "being childish", and "pouting" and "kicking and screaming" when you're the only one getting emotional and posting nonsense like this:

This is my favorite time of the year and some of you negative Nancy's are ruining it.

And you're already asking people to apologize for saying they thought your strategy was terrible.

Yes, I think telling someone their opinion is idiotic and stupid deserves an apology if proven right down the road.

Seriously. Man up, and stop whining.

If Aldridge is asking for a trade because of the city, then I'll be sick to my stomach. Never thought that would be something LA would do...

Whether its true or not, idk.

wherever it is here's more food for thought from another board:

"From Discovery on the Blazers Club forum

Anyway we were told to not to expect LaMarcus to be traded today, that nothing could get done today as it could be a three team trade. But teams like Lakers and Clippers have talked to Olshey about LaMarcus.

Also, Olshey may wait for who gets Dwight Howard as both Houston and Dallas would like LaMarcus if either team doesn't get LaMarcus.

Rice and Antonio think LaMarcus will be gone before the season, because the Blazers don't want to go into fall camp with this drama.

We were hearing from a couple of people who say they know friends of LaMarcus.

That LaMarcus thanked and said goodbye to a business owner and said he wasn't coming back.

Another person said LaMarcus expects to be traded soon and has already packed up his stuff and moved away from Portland."

He's clearly the inferior player, but I would have no problem with Blake Griffin coming back in a trade for LA. Watching Dame and Blake together would be sick as hell.

Yep, he is not as good, but think of the espn highlights of him dunking with the Lillard assists!

Giving the guy credit (even though some may say these are just completely fabricated rumors)---if he does want to go, I applaud the way he's doing it. Telling the GM that he wants to go, but not making a public demand. Saying the right things about where he'd like to go, but not ruling out anyone (for instance, no "I'm not going anywhere except DAL!!"). Saying he'll happily fulfill his contract in Portland even if he isn't traded and we don't become a contender.

agree, gives us the best chance to get as much value as we can, if we go the trade route

If Houston lands Howard; I actually think we have a damn good shot at trading them Aldridge. Asik would be the number one piece; but they would need to give us a hell of a lot more.

What other pieces could we get? Maybe a third team?

Hoping Blake's connection with NO means something. I'll be honest. If I were him, I'd much rather be in LA than POR.

Assuming we could get a guy like Josh Smith, Asik plus some other stuff wouldn't be horrible

Does Houston have any draft picks for 2014? I think that would be the only way Portland gives up Aldridge.

Man the trio of Aldridge, Howard and harden would be sick!

It would kind of suck sending our best player to Houston to win some rings again though.

If Asik is the main piece coming back in an Aldridge trade, I would be sick to my stomach. Look at what Philly got for Jrue-- I want AT LEAST that.

Portland should target both Asik and Robinson. Either, or both.
