If Scoot really is available with the 3rd pick, the Blazers may have hit the jackpot in consecutive drafts. It boggles my mind that people see the 3rd pick as just a number to be traded away.

I will defer to the same scouts that identified Shaedon Sharpe with our pick. Find the guy with the highest upside.

Man i'm watching his last game in the tournament in which he struggled a bit with the shooting but i didn't know he had those handles and those passing skills

i'm so intrigued, he passes the ball with his off hand like a playmaker

he's the forward with handle skills that we were searching for

Another comparison I read was Trey Murphy III.
I don’t know if the comparison was supposed to be complimentary, but Murphy in his 2nd year and 22 years old was only the 3rd player in NBA history to shoot 60% on twos, 40% on threes, and 90 percent on free throws.

he's also a 6'8 player who had the same rebounding rate as Dame, a worse assist rate than John Butler, was 13th on the Pels in defensive rating with a rating 2 points worse than the team, and 12th on the team in DBPM. He's a 3 & D without the D, at least he is at this point. He's miles away from being worth a 3rd pick even with that stellar shooting. And speaking of that shooting Meyers Leonard was very close to those standards one year; slightlu under 60% on two's but better from three and the FT line than Murphy

That is not a guy you want with the #3 pick in the draft. Late 1st round? Sure. Not #3.

So it’s not a complimentary comparison. Player comps really don’t work.

This video is describing Brandon Miller’s FLOOR not his ceiling.
It also mentions nothing about Miller’s passing ability or defense.

What he is saying is literally true of EVERY single draft pick.

They have performed at a lower level and the question is can they perform at the NBA level.

Hell, even Wemby has these same 'concerns'
Wemby's played at the Pro level in Europe. Not against a bunch of one & doners. Big difference

Miller is going to be a good player.

But you're going to see a limit to his game against top defenses. A little too much finesse and chucking up the ball. Not enough athleticism and willpower to drive it in and not enough creativity on offense.

Back in the day, this was also a complaint against Danny Granger, who I feel Miller best compares to. People used to say Granger could only score from beyond 14 feet and struggled inside.

Otherwise, even Tatum - who some compare his game to - is showcasing his limits as a player in this playoff series against the Heat.

He was playing at a higher pro level but after a couple of injuries, dropped down to a much lower level against much weaker competition. Wonder what the comparison of that league is to say bigger college conferences or the G-League?

So essentially you guys are all saying no one is worth the 2nd or 3rd pick, which also means no one will trade much for it.

No one ever said that.
The point is that every single player drafted has question marks on if they are able to transform & grow their game to an NBA level.

Some are able to very easily (Dame). Some are never able to make the leap (Adam Morison). Regardless of the outcome - there are always still questions.

There were questions even for LeBron. There's never a sure thing in sports... thats why most enjoy it

This draft seems to be missing a lot of polish. I think Shaedon would be the 2nd pick if he was in this draft. I like Scoot but he can’t shoot. I like Miller but he doesn’t seem to have much Star potential. Amen intrigued me but the dude has a janky looking shot. I haven’t looked outside those guys yet.

I went a bit down the Jarace Walker rabbit hole this morning. Very very intriguing. Versatile heady defender with the strong base and athleticism to switch 3-5. Complimentary team offensive player who can square up from 3. For comparison, here's his combine #s vs Draymond's

barefoot height, wingspan, standing reach, weight, standing vert/one step vert, lane agility
JW 6'6.5, 7'2.5, 8'8.5, 249 lbs, 34.5"/38", 10.89 seconds
DG 6'5.75, 7'1.25, 8'9, 236 lbs, 28"/33", 11.01 seconds

Don't even get me started on this guy. Though he's primed for defending the 3-5, he's fast enough, long enough, and strong enough to guard all five positions. Plain and simple, he has DPOY potential. That he handles the ball and passes is a bonus.

Oh, and 38" vertical for a bulky 240lb+ forward.

Unlike Draymond, Walker should have offense, as well. He plays more like a wing than a modern power forward so, if he maximizes all his skills and becomes fearless, I think you might see a Jimmy Butler-esque player - less offensively talented but DPOY quality defense and bigger. Either way, he can be like a Draymond with offense. And in a way, that might make him like a bigger and better Aaron Gordon as his mid-ceiling.

Yeah, my guess is he passes miller and is the first PF drafted, I thing he will do very well in workouts, he could easily go 3 or 4 imo

Where is the All things jarace walker thread?

Not sure Horny's will take Miller as they are still dealing with the Bridges situation?

Ayton , obviously is getting a new coach, and maybe that's enough moving forward. But he has to play better and be way more consistent for the money he's getting.
