It didn't hurt for Charlotte to try to do that... Portland should have been fine with snapping up Brandon Miller if he fell, crossing their fingers that Charlotte wouldn't take Snoop. It played out perfectly.

Right now, he reminds me of PG version of Anthony Edwards more than anything. Scoot has the same wingspan as Edwards despite being shorter, and both have physically imposing frames coming into the NBA.
I've made that comparison in chats with my hoops friends. Both grew up playing Running Back in Georgia and bring physicality and extreme athleticism to the court.

Watch that video and read that article and tell me we didn't just draft our next superstar.

I really hope he can get at least one year under Dame. I think it would help him a lot.

I wish we got someone as special as him that was a seamless fit but he's anything but that and you can't always get what you wish for. Oh well, we've got to wait and see how Dame handles this.

I just look at it as we get a do-over. What if we got Dame at 19 and we could have paired him with another 19 year old phenom? I'm so excited about our future. I get people are stressed about the present, and what's going to happen with Dame, but I'm so excited about building around those two guys and I really hope we don't do something to screw that up.

From the interview:

"It was really funny because when I was there he received, the day of the interview he had received the DM the night before from Dame. So it was very fresh and this was a very exciting moment for Scoot. He showed me the DM and to give you an example of the type of respect that he has for Dame and the humility, I forgot the exact wording, but he used both names. "Yo Damian Lillard, my name is Scoot Henderson." Instead of just being like, my name is Scoot as if you should know who I am, he was like Scoot Henderson. Here is my name. And what I respect, he wasn't just like 'What's up' he asked a specific question about letting go of misses and when your shot isn't falling and being imperfect. Scoot is preoccupied with fear of failure and all these things. So I thought that was so interesting that he came with a specific thing."

Here is the portion that was in the article:

"But being so close to that goal is also thrilling to him. Around midnight the night before, unwinding after the Ignite’s game, he received an Instagram direct message from one of his favorite players: Damian Lillard. “Crazy,” Scoot says, beaming. He had originally reached out to the Trail Blazers star in 2021 asking for advice: “Yo, Damian Lillard. I’m Scoot Henderson. I was just wondering if you can give me some free game on shooting the next shot, and not worry about the last one?” Scoot was struggling to let mistakes go, berating himself, trying so hard to be perfect. Trying to be great.

Scoot tries to play it cool when he reads Lillard’s response. “He was telling me that he messes with my game,” Scoot says. “He’s like, ‘I seen you play’!” Lillard told him to not get caught up in missed shots: “Shoot that shit like you know it’s going in.”

This kid idolizes Dame and I would bet that it's super hard for him to see all this drama going on.

I'm so excited about this kid.

From The Athletic's team grades today by Sam Vecenie (Portland got an A+):

I had Henderson at No. 2 on my board, and he was in a tier to himself below Wembanyama and ahead of everyone else. To get him at No. 3 is an enormous moment for the Blazers. He’s going to be an exceptionally hard problem to solve for defenses from day one because of how well-rounded he is in ball-screen actions. He can pull up and hit floaters, he can get all the way to the rim and finish with authority or touch, he can play slow or fast, and he can make high-level passing reads. He’s explosive but balanced as an athlete. He’s going to force the action in transition and drive easy points, as well as be the guy who immediately sets the tone for your organization due to his competitiveness and drive. He’s one of the best guards I’ve evaluated, and I completely buy him as a long-term All-Star.

(My emphasis added.) I don't know who Sam Vecenie is, exactly, but that's pretty high praise.

Same guy did a video about Scoot a few months back. They really broke his game down. They’re huge fans.

I think we were all surprised by Sharpe’s defense early. The responsibility will be on Billups to push him to play elite defense quickly. The blueprint for Sharpe is the blueprint for Scoot. Scoot is so athletic, I don’t know why he can’t become Davion, Jrue, or even Smart eventually. He’s also going to be just as good cutting as Shaedon if he focuses on it (especially if Draymond ends up on the team). Defense and cutting when they play with Dame, that keeps them on the floor.

I’m so excited to see them play together. I want to see both guys just hound the opposing backcourt. Mays and Thybulle are both good enough as third string guards to back them up.

This is a funny thought, but I thought to myself, if Scoot could play GPII defense, he could basically be GPII on defense + an AS guard’s offensive skill. Coming off the bench, it makes sense for him to hustle on defense, find easy baskets (maybe even off lobs from the dunker spot like GPII did), and initiate a few plays with Dame on the court.

Well, I hope I'm wrong and my signature makes me look like an idiot.

If he's doing that he shouldn't be be coming off the bench. At least not for long.

Watching video of Scoot, the player he reminds me of most is a young Kevin Johnson. He was so good at getting into the paint and passing or scoring. Great at changing speeds.
Yes, that's one reason guys like Sam Vecenie love him. He doesn't just play at one speed.
He's got multiple speeds he can shift into.

Vecenie said he doesn't like smaller players in general, but Scoot is so good he has to make an exception for him.
