Should we match Brooklyn's offer sheet for Allen Crabbe?

As long as we retained the RFA cap holds while matching Crabbe, we can re-sign or match our RFA's, even if we're already over the cap. The only thing that would prevent us from being able to do so is if we had to renounce their cap holds, and matching Crabbe does not require that.

Let Crabbe walk and sign Terrence Ross. He would fill the same role as Crabbe. They shot nearly the same % from 3 last year.

He's not a free agent. Signed an extension last November. We'd have to trade for him.

Terrence ross already signed with toronto last year. He is not a free agent

He's an RFA too, right? Who's to say that Toronto doesn't just match?
Yeah, we probably don't have enough cap space to sign him now that we got Ezeli. Forgot about that. But he would not be too hard to replace.

Honest question because I'm not sure. What incentive would NJ have to do a sign and trade?
1. It doesn't cost them anything (well, it costs them SOMETHING, but we could agree to swap picks but give them the right to choose which one they use, or they could send us the rights to some Greek they drafted in the '90s or something, so eventually it's a wash )
2. It establishes goodwill between trading partners. That counts for something.

Crabbe will be an All-Star? That is what he would need to be to justify that contract. I just don't see it though. Certainly not for our team as best a 6th man. But even starting on the Nets I think he does well but All-Star? That is something I can't just leap too. Hope so for him but it would take a lot of growth in many non-shooting areas for that to happen.

If he goes to the Nets we would have at least four years to find out whether or not he is or is not an All-Star level player. Wanna make a bet?

If through the length of the contract Allen Crabbe just signed, if the Blazers let him go to play for Brooklyn, if in the four years of that contract Crabbe does not make the All- Star team I will send you $100 via Western Union or any other service like that. If he does make the All-Star team then you will pay me $200 via the same means.

Do we have a deal?

I like Crabbe, but not at that price. I'd rather re-sign Harkless and go with the guards we have. Start Turner at SF, but let him play a lot of guard too. I think he works well paired with either CJ or Dame since he can play the point and let those guys play off the ball more. I know Allen has a better 3 pt. shot than Turner, but not better than Dame or CJ when they're getting to play the 2G spot.

I agree.

Ha! A bit ironic that you made a cock-sure statement that Crabbe will make the all-star team, and yet you're giving yourself 2:1 odds in the bet? At least make an even offer.

you made the initial assertion and then someone disagreed. Not that I really care, but what justifies you getting twice as much $$$ in this bet you're proposing?

Maybe someone has already said this, but does this make Turner's deal more palatable?

could be the "hey, man, didn't we talk about this? If you get an offer, you're going to get paid. By someone. Just don't sign anything until you let the team know and let them start talking."
Has it been confirmed that he actually signed? Seem to be conflicting reports

Why should it be even? Crabbe would actually have to make the All-Star team in order for me to win the bet while Crabbe has to do absolutely nothing in order for KOR do win the bet. I think my terms on the bet are more than fair.

generally agree with this, though I'd probably bring CJ or Turner off the bench. Regardless a rotation of Dame, CJ, Turner, Aminu, Harkless, Davis, Plumlee & Ezeli seems pretty nice.

Look at two franchises that have been long term successes. The Patriots and Spurs. One key thing they have in common, is that they don't over-pay to keep secondary guys.

Spurs? Come on man they have one of the greatest coaches of all time and one of the top players of all time. Plus with their pedigree players take pay cuts for them

The east is a bit weak, but no way is Crabbe going to be an all star team. Not only would he need to beat out better players, but the Nets would have to improve quite a bit too.

I think the Nets are hoping for another Drazen Petrovic scenario. I like Crabbe quite a bit, but he is not quite at that level.

If Crabbe goes to BRK, Turner has better production at the '2' than the '3' anyhow. Split his time at SG/SF and that gives Harkless more time at the '3'.

Dame - 35 / CJ - 13
CJ - 22 - / Turner 18 / Montero or Connaugton - 8
Turner - 16 / Harkless - 32
Aminu - 32 / Vonleh - 16
Plumlee - 24 / Ezeli - 24

That still leaves Davis and Leonard with nor real minutes or Davis plays some PF and Vonleh doesn't get minutes. Either way, even with Crabbe not here, a consolidation may be in order soon.
