PORTLAND, Ore. (May 8, 2017) – Portland Trail Blazers guard Allen Crabbe will undergo surgery Thursday to repair a stress reaction of the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot, it was announced today by president of basketball operations Neil Olshey.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Martin O’Malley at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

In 79 games (7 starts) this season, Crabbe averaged 10.7 points (48.8% FG, 44.4% 3-PT, 84.7% FT), 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists. The NBA’s second most accurate 3-point shooter at 44.4%, Crabbe posted the highest percentage from beyond the arc in franchise history by a player with 100-plus 3-pointers.

Stress reaction has me leaning towards the low end for guys that have surgery, but he's probably still looking at 4-6 months.

A stress reaction huh. So it's not quite yet a fracture, just weak bone...how does surgery fix it if it's not fractured? Doesnt sound like it will take long to heal afterwards

He should be fine to put on a show at the beginning of the season so we can trade him for PG.

We weren't offloading that contract this summer anyhow. Next trade deadline peeps. NO is gonna play the draft in the off season and then evaluate the roster in the opening months and look to move guys like Crabbe+ by the trade deadline.

For those of you looking for big trades this off season, i'm afraid you will probably be disappointed.

Damn. He won't be tradeable. We're fucked.

I like how the team tried to portray him as one of the franchise's all time greats. Still trying to justify matching BRK's offer.

Alternative fact: Crabbe's FG% wasn't 48.8%, it was 46.8%.

Not looking for a big trade, looking to dump a big contract. I would have been fine unloading Crabbe for a future second round pick.

Out of the contracts that I was looking for the Blazers to unload: Crabbe, Turner, Leonard. If I had to pick one player out of that group whose contract you had to keep, I would keep Crabbe's. He has way more value in the future than Turner or Leonard.

Don't disagree at all.
It's just that Crabbe's will be the easiest to unload....

His is also the biggest contract, nearly 2x what Leonard makes. I think we can replace what he provides (wide open, catch and shoot 3-point shooting) for a LOT less money.

He's 25. It's not like he has a lot of untapped upside. Move him for whatever luxury tax relief you can get and look to replace his production with one of our three first round picks and/or a cheap veteran 3-point specialist, because that's what Crabbe is. He brings nothing else to the party. We can't afford to pay a one-dimensional specialist $19 million a year.

If you have to, you pay luxury tax to keep guys like Dame, C.J. and Nurk. You don't get into repeater tax territory to keep a guy like Allen Crabbe.

I fractured that bone in my left foot and was back at work 3 weeks later. Really stupid of me but I wasnt' doing any damage to it was just super painful for about the next month then it was fine.

Pat Connaughton?

I dislike Turners' game. He proved his mediocrity in games 3 and 4 when he blew himself up with mental mistakes. Management paid too much for a ordinary player like him.

We are going to have to move someone. Those three 1st round rookie contracts are guaranteed. But, the luxury tax doesn't kick in till after the trade deadline, so that does leave Neil a little time. I've also heard teams will also be able to have 17 players on their roster, so if the Blazers waived Ezeli and used all 3 draft picks, that would be 17. Still, that means Neil would be pressured to make moved by the trade deadline. If players like Meyers, Evan, and Allen play a good deal better to start off next year it would make them easier to play. Then again Neil would have to take the risk that they will all fall flat again, and get stuck in the mud.

I think Neil will try and see what he can get during the draft and if he likes it, he will bite, otherwise as you suggest Orion he may just use the picks and take the risk. Though Neil isn't really a high risk guy.

I don't think Neil is under any pressure to get under the luxury tax this year; he won't make a trade now just to reduce salary; maybe next year or in two years. Allen is OK with paying the extra money; they just don't want to get into the situation where the penalties on player acquisition kick in.

Pat Connaughton?

Possibly. Its hard to project his production due to the small sample size and garbage time minutes, but when given the chance to play meaningful minutes, he shot the ball well. He's also a better rebounder and passer than Crabbe. And, of course, MUCH cheaper.

Currently I think it would take OUR 2nd round pick to offload, and I don't want to do that and I know PA and NO don't want to do that.

Exactly why I think he plays the draft and then the first part of next season out and then looks to make big trades to free up for Nurk and whoever else we may have pipe dreams of bringing in.

Way to make yourself even more worthless Crabbe! Gotta hand it to his agent, who knew crabbe could grow into the most overpaid player in history?

Stuck with that contract till at least February and most likely another year. Great!
Neil's FA track record of signings and offered contracts continues to not look very good.
