Analysis of Olshey moves with Blazers and Clippers

I see just as many "wins" as "losses" in those trades. So I guess you could consider that mediocre in that area if you are glass half empty person? We had plenty of GMs that were far worse than mediocre.

There's clearly a negative tone in the article, and he manages to leave out Aminu and Davis for whatever reason.

Either way, just looking at that list, I see a lot of underrated moves and only one or two real negative moves. Sometimes less is more.

It's hard to take this article seriously when he leaves Aminu and Davis off the list of free agents.

"Only one free agent--Billups--reached league-average performance measured by PER...and Billups was right at the average."

Ed Davis has a PER of 18.76 this year..... Dave is an amateur.

That article almost seems like Dave put it together last night and forgot to write anything about this season in it.
The CP3 trade was pretty much gifted to NO but that doesnt' discount that he was the one who made it. Also the Kyrie trade looks terrible but due to the rule where you have to have your own first every two years he couldn't put protections on the pick and was told by the great Donald Sterling to get the pay roll down and get ride of Davis so a 6.3% chance at the #1 pick ends up biting a cost cutting owner.
As for FA, who could he attract in Clippertown before getting CP3? It wasn't a prime destination even being in LA and once he got CP3 suddenly it became building around three "stars" and that leaves you very little money to attract FA with. As for the FA moves he made here before last season his goal was not to get fucked if LA bolted and I'd say he did a damn good job of that. Last year he couldn't get a star and instead got Bargin Bin FA and didn't overpay anyone, which imo is one of the top priorities in FA is not to fuck over your franchise by giving an older declining player all the money.
If you grade what NO has done vs the other GM's in the league it looks pretty good, if you grade what he has done based on signing a star in FA well then he has come up short but then again every year 29 other GM's come up short on that stage as well.

BlazersEdge is losing more and more credibility. We need to have a content driven site here that would be more well rounded, not just re-post articles and have different styles of articles from human interest, statistic driven, cap/trade etc.
Well, I know I'm too lazy to look up every trade and signing made, so I am glad someone did, even if he chose to forget some.

Yeh, I think overall the trades are pretty good, and free agent signings are somewhat uncontrollable. We know he tried to sign some free agents with higher PER,s

Its known Dave doesn't like Olshey. I forget whats his beef is but I think it centers around the fact Dave hated we didnt resign Lopez, Wes, etc..

But I remember he felt pretty stupid throughout the year and was getting a lot of shit from posters on his site for such a great season. So take what he says about Olshey with a grain of salt

It would have been great to have had Claver and Freeland on the team this year.

We already have one negative Nancy Clownzano....

Not all trades and signings work out, see the signing of LaMurkle Aldridge by San Antonio for example.

Dave is salty because the Blazers pulled their credentials.

Quite a few of them are questioning right now why he left out Davis and Aminu.

It would have been great to have had Claver and Freeland on the team this year.

They're too expensive for their lack of production. I'd NEVER play Claver over Aminu, Harkless, Crabbe, or Henderson. Joel had a solid jumper and could've worked with Plums or Davis though.

Freeland probably would have started at PF. How did he do this past season in Europe?

I can't tell if you're serious. Sadly, Freeland was injured, as he so often is, and probably always will be. Claver had his usual unflashy but helpful season, as his team (Lokomotiv Kuban, if you're interested) seriously overachieved (Third place in Euroleague), although that might have had more to do with the American contingent of Anthony Randolph, Malcolm Delaney, Chris Singleton and Dontaye Draper.

Dear Dave,

Great article! Way to leave out significant facts that would contradict your foregone conclusion. Nice touch! You're learning.

One suggestion, in future articles, be sure to site more "unnamed sources close to the team". That way you can make up anything you want and no one can refute it. Works like a charm and is much easier than trying to understand complex things like the salary cap. I mean, come on, we're writers, not accountants.

XOXO,
John C.

Quite a few of them are questioning right now why he left out Davis and Aminu.
In fact, one of them posted something that showed Dave forgot 4 free agents:
Chris Kaman 2014-5, PER 17.3, G74
Steve Blake, 2014-5, PER 9.5, G81
Ed Davis 2015-6, PER 18.7, G81
Al Farouq Aminu 2015-6, PER 12.7, G82
Maybe they are not such a bunch of sheep over there. One of them even suggested that: "Dave has an agenda he should address with the community"
