Over The AirOTA?
As I understand it from this thread it will be "topographical" on a "wide ass" screen for free? Why is that "great news"? What are the details of the deal "INSIDER GUY"?
So if you don't have an antenna or cable does that mean we can watch them on Roku Channels (you can stream KPTV 12 there) for free?
I think streaming has to be done on Blazervision?
I think you have to have an antenna plugged into to the back of your TV still.
Hopefully they can get a deal done with some Medford stations, it looks like the company that owns KPTV, the closest station it owns is in Bend.
Oh, there are parts of Oregon that don't get KPTV?

Not OTA.
I know people in Utah who don’t have the channel the Jazz are on have to stream.
It will be like the Jazz+ where it's $125 to stream for the year or something.Yeah if a market doesn’t have KPTV/KGW/KOIN/KATU…..wherever we end up, which will be pretty much everywhere but PDX right…… won’t be able to watch if I’m not mistaken. Seems like there are a couple on here with more info than I. But maybe there is a streaming option for those out of market.
Don’t know any details, but doesn’t that sound like it will be HARDER for people to watch?
Part of the issue with going to KPTV is that they likely won't be shown on KPTV's main feed (aka flipping to channel 12 on Xfinity, DirecTV, streamer etc) but will come in on one of the auxiliary channels over the air. For this most of the time you will need an antenna, or they may have an alternate feed that gets put into the channel lineup. This issue is that Fox (the station that KPTV is an affiliate for) won't want to cancel their normal programming for 80 nights out of the year. So in some respects it will be easier and cheaper for those in market to watch the games, it could also be more difficult and a hassle for many.
I watch KPTV news all the time and their regular programs are frequently pre-empted for a variety of sports programs albeit never for any local sports. But KGW/NBC, KOIN/CBS or KATU/ABC would be perfectly fine canceling their normal programming 80 nights a year?

The difference is that KPTV is available on various apps like HULU and KPTV+ is not. As far as I know you need a local antenna to get KPTV+ (channel 13 if I recall). My guess is, if there is a conflict (NFL mostly), they'd just switch the Blazers to KPTV+. And if there are shows on KPTV/Fox that fox wants to show, it could also be switched to KPTV+

None of them would ... that's why down here all the baseball games we cover aren't on NBC proper station, but instead 10.2 OTA ... hence if you're just using a cable box you can't get the games. Some of the streamers might fix this by adding another channel to their stream but it's not as simple as just tuning in to KPTV. I could be completely wrong and maybe they work out a deal with FOX but highly unlikely. We tried to preempt a handful of Thursday nights for HS Football and it was a major no go from NBC, of course the NBA may be able to pull some strings and this is all moot. I just think people hear that KPTV is going to carrying the games and think it will be like KGW back in the day which I was a kid for but remember just going to channel 8 and the Blazer games were on, those days are gone. But KGW/NBC, KOIN/CBS or KATU/ABC would be perfectly fine canceling their normal programming 80 nights a year?
Roku Channels app doesn't charge as far as I know. They just stream the OTA feed, including commercials, as far as I know. You can watch them as much as you want for free.I'm pretty sure the free Blazer games will only be available OTA. The streaming platforms will want to charge subscribers extra for the Blazer games and that throws the economics of this off.

Makes sense to me.I'm 99.9% sure there will not be way to watch the Blazer broadcast of games outside of the Portland metro area for free unless you use an illegal stream. The NBA would not allow that since it would take away from their NBA League Pass.
Streaming will likely be similar to Jazz+ where you pay a fee but must be in Oregon/S. Washington region (same as jazz+). If outside the region you can buy league pass.I'm 99.9% sure there will not be way to watch the Blazer broadcast of games outside of the Portland metro area for free unless you use an illegal stream. Merge it with the Melo thread!Shouldn't this thread title be changed?
