Personally if there is any way to keep Curry and Hood those two would be my priority. Shooting is a premium in the league. As much as I like Kanter he’s very limited against teams that spread you out and play pick and roll. Maybe use our pick to tie it with Turner to dump salary and give us more flexibility.

Funny thing is how everyone is talking about selling the house for AD because of Kawhi.

Everyone saying that should check the actual Kawhi trade last year. The Raptors didn't mortgage their future or gut the core of their team to make that happen. That might be part of the reason the Lakers are so adamant about not including Kuzma. They don't think they need to.

The Raptors actually got back TWO starters in that trade. They got the best player and the third best player. Along with Derozan, they gave up Poetl and a low draft pick.

And yet we're like, hey, let's go all in for one year, even more than the Raptors did. The Raptors still had the assets to swing the Gasol deal. That's how "gutted" they were.

Damn right people are salty.

Most of us have come to accept that free agency is pretty much a scam and that only certain teams get to sign high impact FAs. Now, teams like Portland are being told they aren't supposed to trade for good players either. About the only thing left is to make sure small market teams aren't allowed to draft who they want.

The success of the Bucks and Blazers this season should have given fans of small market teams hope. Instead, they just keep finding new ways to tilt the field against us.

They? Who is they? You're acting like it's the NBA.

Rich Paul is receiving so much hate for doing the same thing that ALL agents do.

No hate was going toward the agents really until now. MFs are salty about HIM. Not the state of the NBA. Because nothing new is happening. It's par for the course.

One thing that many in here don't take into account is that Leonard sat out pretty much the whole previous season and was coming off a strange injury that took a lot longer to heal. Add that into the fact he only had one year left on his deal and his value was probably at its lowest. He has now rebuilt his value and it's likely at an all time high. AD's value is at its peak right now. Both have expressed a desire to only go to certain teams and threaten not to re=sign with whatever team they get traded to so that part is pretty equal.

Great post Cup. These are facts.

How is AD's value at an all time high though? He's only got a year left on his deal, so whoever trades for him has no idea if he's staying, just like Kawhi. AD has his own injury history as well. Not saying AD's trade value is low, but I could definitely think of ways it would be higher.

The Kawhi and AD situations are very similar. AD has played more than 70 games in a season in two of his six years. His teams only made it to the playoffs twice. Kawhi's track record actually is far and away better.

That just tells me more we don't need to be desperate enough to sell the farm to acquire him. Toronto didn't.

AD could be in LA next year and both he and LeBron could get hurt. It's actually more certain one or both of them misses significant time than don't, considering age and injury history.

Similar and different though. If Davis had been coming off an injury like Leonard went through a year ago his trade value would likely be lower. Davis is going into his last year after a relatively healthy season where Leonard wasn't.

AD's trade value is high because he's a top 5 player in the NBA. Plain and simple. After seeing Kawhi (possibly a rental) win a title, teams priorities have changed a bit. Ours especially.

We'd rent him for a year and attempt to win a title if that were an option.

Sure AD's trade value is "high" but not it's highest. Just like Kawhi being on a one year deal his trade value wasn't at it's highest. Kawhi had already won a ring and a finals MVP too, AD has made it to the 2nd round once. Not saying I wouldn't be extremely happy if the Blazers landed AD, I would, just saying I don't think AD's trade value is at an all time high, trade value was probably higher in February when teams would of at least gotten two playoff runs with him.

The difference is, which was the point I was making, Leonard basically missed the previous season where as Davis played this past season. Many of the games he missed were self imposed by the Pels.

Davis played 56 games where as Leonard only played 9 games. Also, part of what slightly devalued Leonard is that the Spurs wanted him out of the west so they limited their ability to get a better value.

Doesn't it devalue AD in trades when it's very public that he doesn't want to play for like 25 teams?

What was our teams priority before? And how do you know it’s changed? I’d be shocked if Olshey made any significant trade. He references the Spurs as a model often, and they rarely go external for help.

You don't think NO may have gained a little perspective after seeing what's transpired in the OKC and TOR?

While it remains to be seen, I think so.

I really don't think Davis would be happy in Portland. It's clear he wants to be in a major social market. Why, i do not know, but that's clearly his focus. His focus is not on winning but rather glitz and glamour. Does he really think he goes to NYN and they make it deep into the playoffs? That entire group is a trainwreck and the same is true for LAL except they have LBJ. The NYN and the LAL have lost more games, I think, than any other teams over a significant time frame. He wants to be adored and be on TMZ at least once a week. Sad really.

No, I don’t think he’s that reactionary. This season also validated his patience, so I can’t see him all of a sudden breaking the squad up (aka trading CJ and Zach,) although he probably should.

This is why I find it easy to believe that he is being manipulated by LeBron and/or Paul. Even if he was determined to go to LA or NY, why pick the Fakers and Knicks over the Nets and Clips? It seems so superficial.

Disclaimer: unlike many fans, I wouldn't be offended if he was insisting on a trade to one of the 4 conference finalists, or even a promising team like Denver. There is nothing wrong with a player wanting to be in a winning situation. (IMHO)

He wants to be a part of a team with a legacy. But I would offer up: why not start your own legacy? Why just be so unimaginative with your talents and be like "oh I want to be a Laker because x, y and, z where lakers."

With respect to cup's luck thread..
Who's to say after giving up a ton to get him, Anthony Davis comes to Portland, or wherever, and blows out his knee.
Then what?..
Could happen.

:dunno: Based on what happened with Roy, maybe we shouldn't give Dame an extension?

I think the NYK part is a smoke screen. His only real destination is Lebron and the Lakers but has to add one at least one other team to his list so he doesnt look like a Lebron fan boi.

What happened in OKC? They’ve won 3 playoff games since the Paul George trade.

PG was hurt. What if we got "MVP consideration PG" during that series. You know, the one that shot the lights out when they swept us?

It would have been way different. But you're missing my point. My point is PG resigned and Kawhi won a championship and is more likely to stay than leave.
