Oh for sure. There's no perfect stat out there and yes the defensive stuff has some weird stuff going on. Like I'm sure Luka's defensive rebounding numbers are contributing a lot to what we are seeing here, especially when looking at him vs Dort. These stats are always going to struggle to adjust for teammate quality and context as well.

But yeah I posted those numbers to more so illustrate what the gap is. If you don't believe in EPM's value or any other on court +/- based metric (because all of them value Bane over Simons to a pretty high degree) I get it. Like you said they all are very noisy, but I think they do a better job capturing total on court value over a large sample over what our eyes or the traditional box score can do.

Orlando has also invested a lot of picks over the last 4 drafts late in the lottery with little to show but that have hit big enough on their core 3 high picks and saw Bane as a great opportunity to make a run in the next couple years with the East in a weird 2 year flux with all the major injuries and was willing to overpay in the long term.

It's risky, but I get it much more than trading for an expiring Simons.

But not for that price. That's what you're leaving out. Nobody at any time has said that Cronin was asking for more than maybe two firsts for Ant. They gave up FOUR firsts and a swap.

No I'm not and I'm well aware lol.

Posting the EPM stuff was to show how wide the gap is. Is that gap worth the three extra picks and the swap?...we will see. It's a big bet on Bane and being very good for the next 5 years, but I see the vision.

Didn't with Simons for them.

Joe better wake up

I thought this was gonna be a haiku.

I wonder when im going to care about the team again? Pretty sure its not going to be in the next 5 years, the way things are going.

Sucks. Guess we are going on year 3 of me not watching a game.

Who is going to be our next Roy to bring interest back? We need someone. This team doesnt matter as currently constructed.

Happy Fathers Day everyone.

Holding pattern until we get a new owner. Then they'll decide which direction to go, IMO.

The last few years were about just cutting some salary and getting some young potential on the roster.

Billups got the extension because they don't expect him to do anything and he'll be easy for the incoming owners to move on from without blowback from the fans.

Everything has been done to make it appealing and easy for a new owner to come in and easily go whatever direction they want.

Not sure why some act like Joe “sleeps” on making moves. In the last two offseasons, he made sensational trades for Avdija and Camara who both have All Star potential.

These 4 first rouders seems like a lot. But are they really that valuable? I am not so sure with Orlando aiming to be good for the future.
injuries do happen and theyre pretty top heavy. not applying protections for a non-allstar is wild

I know right. Why didnt Joe get five first round picks for Simons lol.

Wow! A day of family shit and I come back to see if the trade I read about earlier today was just some sort of hallucination and there it is. Desmond Bane for 4 fucking first round picks and a swap... and a fucking swap. Anthony Parker, the second best basketball player in his family to his sister, got his lunch stolen. Can you imagine being Zach Kleiman (the Grizzlies GM who I know nothing about) and just asking for that fucking swap on top of all four FRPs. Fucking ridiculous! Again, just WOW!

Sleepy Joe better wake up.
good grief, really? Has Portland's management shown a reluctance to make big trades/moves or are you just getting forgetful & bitter in your old age? I'm sure every NBA management group (not just Portland's) is making and fielding calls from every other GM. If Blazer management bides their time to wait to pull something off again akin to the Deni fleecing and also adds a solid piece in the draft, this team will be a legit contender for a few seasons.

The last 6 transaction windows, here's players Cronin has traded for or signed outside of the "forced" Dame/Jrue trade.

2023 Deadline - Traded Josh Hart for Cam Reddish and a wasted pick, traded 2nds for Matisse Thybulle
2023 Draft - No Trades
2023 Free Agency - Signed Moses Brown
2024 Trade Deadline - Traded nothing for Dalano Banton
2024 Draft - Traded Brogdon for Avdija
2024 Free Agency - Nothing
2025 Trade Deadline - Nothing

So outside of the Dame trade which according to many "wasn't his plan" and "he was forced to take action on", the only meaningful trade or signing he's had in six transaction windows is the trade for Avdija. Which is insane considering the first three they were "trying to be really aggressive around Dame" and the last three they were rebuilding and have vets in the way of young players.

That's what people mean by "Sleepy Joe".

This is interesting. You think we're a Deni caliber player/trade and good draft pick away from competing with OKC?

That's awesome. I hope you're right.

Deni was a tremendous add that I truly don't expect to be duplicated. He got better and better as the season went along. The three youngins were also noticeably improving & Camara was just a stud of a role player. I expect the three lotto picks to continue to level up this season giving them a very solid core that (given health) should have them competing for a playoff spot next season. Adding another Deni level player to the mix for the peanuts they did seems a long shot but adding another solid player from the draft seems very likely. Change is a constant in life and the PTB are trending in the right direction

Yeah I don't think it's likely we pull off another Deni deal either (it really was a great deal) but it would certainly be welcome.

I still don't think that would put us on the path to contender status, but I would welcome being wrong.

I certainly agree with you the Blazers are trending up. I'm just not sure we have enough talent to trend up steep enough.

Would love to see it, though.
