Oh, you don't have to be sorry. They are took back a 100 million dollar Jrue Holiday at 35 years old. Right or wrong, they are pretty committed. Letting Ant expire is closer to a low 1st than committing a hundred million for a 35 year old Jrue Holiday.

Does anyone notice how we all mention the total contract for a player when it is too high? ($100 million for Jrue) Yet when it is a good contract like Deni's, we just mention how much per year he makes? (Deni's at 13 per year) I do it too.

But really, the total amount isn't relevant to most discussions. We just mention it to make it sound worse. The season salary is more important because of how it affects the team's cap space that year.

I don't mind the trade. Jrue is going to make the team better and help mature the team faster. I don't love the contract but it ain't my money. I think we'll move off of him at deadline or next summer when we take the training wheels off the backcourt.

It’s not even about the number. It’s about the percentage of the cap. But the problem with Holiday is that he’s gonna be making a pretty big percentage when he’s 37.

sure. I'm kind of meh on the trade with a slight lean toward the positive side. Holiday is worlds better as a defender than Simons and his ability to actually run the offense without primarily calling his own number, like Simons, should make for a bit better offense as well. The Blazers are obviously going all-in on the roster they have and are trying to compete for the play-in/playoffs and Holiday will be better for that than Simons....assuming he buys in to what Joe and Chauncey are selling (no real reason to suspect he won't)

I’m getting frustrated with Joe… CAN WE HAVE ONE FUCKING SEASON WITH SCOOT AND SHARPE STARTING? I mean for fucks sake…… I’d like to at least know what would happen.

I don't think there is any reason why they can't start those two now. As I posted in another thread, Jrue has won two chips, is 35, and is getting paid for 3 more years. Is he really going to have an issue if Chauncey sits down with him and explains why he needs to come off the bench?

Now I assume the response from many will be .......but Chancey will want to start him, and that will be Joe's fault for bringing in a talented player. Well he just can't bring in shit players so Scoot does not have to compete for the job. Scoot needs to come to camp and show why he should start. I am not saying he needs to be better than Jrue, but he does need to show that he deserves it. And I think he can.

Worst case scenario IMO is Scoot comes off the bench for one more year, but still gets 30 minutes a game. Jrue is too old to be getting 30+ minutes a game. I don't see a big problem.

The problem is that there are always ulterior motives at work. Chauncey wants to win the most games possible and to him, that probably means starting the veteran point guard. Not the young guard who is still learning. There's gonna be ups and downs with guards this young. At some point you have to bite the bullet and let the kid grow. We made this same mistake with Jermaine. To me, Scoot outplayed Simons for large chunks of last season. He shot better from the outside. He was better at passing the ball. He played better defense... and yet he averaged fewer minutes than his rookie season. I do not trust Chauncey at all.

LoL…..Jrue isn’t coming off the bench but I’m sure conditioning teams (Minnesota, phoenix, Dallas and Indy) will be interested in him at the deadline.

we were showcasing Ant to up his value, that's why

Not sure where to post this or if it’s true, but according to this guy there is an offer on the table for Camara. Couldn’t find the Belgian article he is referencing.IMG_7531.jpeg

You believe we should’ve been playing Jermaine O’ Neal over Sheed and Grant?

Maybe not this year, but if we think Jrue will never come off the bench, then they might as well trade Scoot now.
As far as the teams you mentioned that might trade for him, I wonder which ones have players they can move to get him.

over the last 3 seasons, Chauncey has had 435 opportunities to NOT start Simons, Ayton, or Grant. He's chosen to do so exactly 0 times

The problem wasn't that he should have been playing ahead of either of those guys or Sabonis just that he only got 12.3 minutes per game that season. The next season Dale Davis, who we traded Jermaine for, got 26.7 minutes per game. The idea being that if we'd given Jermaine those kind of minutes he would have proven that he was trending towards the all star that he was just two seasons after we traded him.

Last year, best Blazer 2 man combos:

Yeah, I really wish this off season was geared towards making Scoot, Shaedon, Tou, Deni and Clingan our starting lineup and just trying to get bench players to complement them as starters. I was hoping that we'd get a guy like Asa Newell in the draft to be a small ball 5 option to platoon with Clingan and just try to get clear of Ant, Jerami, Ayton and Rob with just bench players coming back.

I am not sure how many of those 435 opportunities someone else deserved to start over those three, but it sure as hell was not 435.
