That's the best Cleveland could do? Thomas, Crowder, Zizic and a pick? Lol.

This would be one of the weirdest trades ever if this shit happens. Boston is on some super weird shit.

1st seed, 1st overall pick, and they trade the pick..

Signing an all-star because their coach coached him in college... These two things we weird but...

1st seed, then they trade their starting PG, SG, and SF, while losing their starting PF? Trading their starting PG and SF to the team their battling against for the ECF?

This off-season has been weird as fuck. If the Warriors didn't exist, next year would be the most intriguing NBA season in history.

That's a great package, what are you talking about?

The don't downgrade much, if at all by going from Kyrie to Thomas.

They add the 3-and-D SG they've needed for years in Crowder.

They add the backup C they've needed in Zizic.

Thomas (34) / Rose (14)
Crowder (10) / Smith (20) / Rose (10) / Korver (8)
Lebron (21) / Crowder (20) / Korver (7)
Love (33) / Lebron (15)
Thompson (32) / Zizic (16)

Crowder and Lebron at SF and PF matches up beautifully with Durant and Draymond.

If the rumored package is true, Boston lost this trade

Shit... If Melo still wanted to go to CLE and CLE wanted him, I'd turn this into a four-way.

CLE Gets: Thomas, Melo, Zizic,
BOS Gets: Irving
NYK Gets: Harkless, BOS Pick, POR Pick, (as well as salary matchers in Osman, Rozier, J.R.Smith, Napier).
POR Gets: Lee, Crowder, O'Quinn

That honestly might be the best 4-way trade I've ever come up with. Basically this Boston trade but CLE swaps Crowder and Smith for Melo, NYK solves the Melo situation and gets good assets back, and we upgrade Harkless and Crabbe, get a good backup C, and keep our TPE.

Lillard / McCollum
McCollum / Lee
Crowder / Turner
Aminu / Vonleh
Nurkic / O'Quinn

Literally perfect.

I agree. Losing Crowder doesn't hurt them much because they have a logjam on the wing with Brown, Tatum, Hayward, and Smart, but still seems like a lateral move at best.

I've learned over the past that the team acquiring the best player usually wins the trade. What Boston gave up seems like a lot but there are a lot of maybes in there. They're going to have to hit on that pick.

I assumed they'd get Bostons pick or a combination of lower future picks.

So first two picks in next years draft could easily be Boston and Cleveland, who will likely be playing in the Eastern Conference Finals.

It was about time Ainge took advantage of his assets. He deliberately lost the battle but with better chances to win the war.

This also leads me to believe that the Celtics didn't necessarily want to bring the Brinks Truck to Thomas' front door. He has always proved doubters wrong, and is a hell of a player, but I have always thought that a team can only go so far with him as their lead guard given his limitations. So, the Celtics might "lose" this trade, but they get the best player in the trade and don't have to shell out a max for Thomas or risk pissing him off by offering less than the max.

Regardless of bird rights, I don't see Thomas sticking in Cleveland beyond next season, unless lebron stays (lol)

So it's pretty much Zizic, the nets pick, and a role player for an elite point guard. Good deal for Boston imo.

It is true that generally the team getting the best player wins the deal. And Irving is the better player--he's poor defensively but Thomas is even worse. And as I said in the other thread, I'd trust Irving offensively over Thomas against playoff defenses. I think Thomas' size makes him much more prone to being erased by locked-in defenses.

Again, I wonder if this trade is Cleveland basically conceding James is gone next off-season--otherwise, I can't see them trading their second-best player to their biggest conference threat. I don't think Cleveland is the favorite in the East anymore. But the Nets pick is a nice rebuilding asset.

Where would Thomas go? Not many teams need PGs.

I guess Denver... Fuck.

I mean they essentially just swapped the same player. Sure there are differences but overall, great offensive players, bad defensively. Kyrie is just more of a name. Plus Danny ainge confuses the fuck out of me. You give up that pick now but you were stingy as hell when it came to Paul George or Jimmy Butler?!?! I mean the Celtics could of gotten PG and signed Hayward if Ainge just pulled the trigger. Lebron could potentially stay now. That pick is worth A LOT unless Allen Crabbe becomes some superstar with Deangelo and they light it up in Boston which i doubt. Crowder is on a great deal. I am confused by this deal honestly

"This would be one of the weirdest trades ever if this shit happens. Boston is on some super weird shit..."
I sort of see your point, Bos got Irving (the part of the trade that matters most here), not much difference +/-... I think Bos does this bc they don't believe in IT long term/don't want to pay him the big $ AND they DO believe in Brown & Tatum; it looks like they believe that these 2 are ready to contribute NOW/want them to get major PT. Bos is able to offload a grumpy Crowder (I think we all know the Hayweirdo/fans vs. Crowder thingy etc.) for a player + situation (aka open up PT for 2 players that r younger/want to be in Bos) that benefits Bos maybe not as strongly now BUT IS really the better thing now for down the road.

So to everyone that thinks Bos lost this trade, in terms of players right now... I can see that/sort of agree BUT... for the overall picture/building for the near future AND saving $/deferring it... this would be a good move for Bos.

Damn, so Cavs get IT and next years #1 pick most likely!

I mean Boston is set either way with the talent they have I just feel like this was an odd move and I don't get ainge finally parting way with that pick after Butler, PG, etc. The rumor was with PG though that he wouldn't give up Rozier.

I'm pretty sure Boston is also much happier paying Irving a ton than Thomas. Irving is younger and will fit better with the young assets Boston has (and still have upcoming--the Nets pick was only one, though the best remaining).

With George, he couldn't pull the trigger until after he signed Hayward, for cap reasons. He told Pritchard he was interested after the first wave of free agency, but Pritchard obviously didn't want to wait. Which was another weird thing about Pritchard's dumb George trade.

Yeah I guess that was on Pritchard too because Boston wanted them to wait until after they signed Hayward but still, that's a ballsy move. Hey wait, hold onto George for us, we are gonna go sign Hayward first and then be back. Pritchard wasn't giving up PG after that to a team in the east and make them better. Jimmy Butler however...

Who wants to bet they go out and bring back Tony Allen now???

Irving / Rozier
Smart / Allen
Hayward / Brown
Morris / Tatum
Horford / ?

It allows Brown and Tatum to slide to the 3 and 4, and with 3 shooters in Tatum, Morris, and Horford playing PF and C, you'd have enough shooting at all times to counter Allen's weaknesses. You could toss out Allen so that he could guard Curry or Thomas. Would also recoup some fan approval by bringing him back since Boston fans are rightfully upset.
