I think that's a bad move for the Rockets and a stupid move by CP3.

I agree with santee, the two don't seem like the best fit together.

Shit and I just drafted harden in a keeper league last year too...

no big deal just trade him for lonzo ball

Not that Dallas looks that much better right now, but do you think DeAndre regrets screwing them over and not signing with them now? I guess it's probably pretty likely he gets traded now too though.

So what does Blake do now? Stay in LA and be the man? Go elsewhere and win?

Horrible fit for Paul. Reminds me of Dallas getting Rondo. Just a bad fit all around. It would be like trading for Paul and trying to put him next to Westrook.

Harden had a USG% of 34.2 last season. Paul had a usage of 24.4%

Just a bad bad fit.

This arms race in the West isn't looking too good as a middling team.

Lillard: "Neil, I need help"
Neil: "OK, I drafted you Zach Collins"

-----------------------

Harden: "Morey, I need help"
Morey: "CP3 work?"

Phil is the only coach to have success with the triangle offense in the NBA, even then he had Tex Winter assisting him. I have never been able to figure out why they try to run it in NY with PJ as president and not the coach, it simply doesn't make sense.
It wasnt Phil offense it was Tex Winters offense that Phil use. When Tex retired the offense didn't work that well under Phil.

It still boils down to this:

We don't have anything to trade if you take Dame/CJ/Nurk off the table.

We couldn't match Minny's offer for Butler.
We don't have a need for a point guard like Paul.

So what else is out there? And if you're not interested in trading CJ or Dame, what can we realistically get for a bunch of overpaid role players?

Interesting. I wonder if the Spurs couldn't clear enough cap space. Paul would have been a perfect fit in San Antonio--Kawhi Leonard can be a secondary offensive star, Aldridge is a complementary player at this stage and Paul would have only made the Spurs' defense that much better.

In Houston, you now have two control-dominant superstars. Either guy could play off the ball, but both are built to have complete control of the offense, with shooters/scorers revolving around them. It's better to have both than not, but the fit will be rougher.

Saw a tweet that said CP3 felt he fit better with HOU because it allowed him to play off the ball more as well and relieved him of ball handling duties.

I think ET/Crabbe/Aminu/Harkless/Collins have value around the league. But I wouldn't trade them for what we could get in return at this point.

Also, Butler & Paul make no sense. PG makes little sense. So really unless one of these stars is forcing their way to us, it's not really up to who has assets anyway since they'll just threaten to leave.

Also -- doubt our players are overpaid, we will see what Redick, KCP, Otto Porter get.

Are the all NBA teams out yet? When I google it, there's 2 different lists..

Why? Haven't we lamented what it's like to only have one capable ball-handler? Having CP3/Harden gives them a Double Dragon the opposing defenses will have a hard time dealing with. Both are very good with the dribble, very good passers, and more than adequate shooters. That's gonna be a bitch to defend.
Most of Paul scoring is when bring the ball up the court and same thing with Harden. I think it might hurt Harden more then Paul due to it will be easier for defenders to keep the ball away from Harden it also will make Harden work that much in the game to get the ball.

I agree with all of this. I just don't think players look at it the same. They see the same 5 or 6 teams make these blockbuster type deals and free agent signings and in the back of their head the "can't win in Portland" seed grows.

I get the long term approach by NO, but if in 2 years this team is still in a similar state, CJ and Dame will
probably both want to bolt.

As this team is constructed we are banking on mid first rounders to way overperform and be able to flip them while still in Dame/CJ's prime, or hope they contribute in year 1 or 2. I'm skeptical that will ever work.

That's the obvious question batted around since the end of the playoffs. I would have done CJ for Butler, but now that that ship has sailed, wait until the deadline and see the best package is available. CJ is the least untouchable of our "star" players. It's time to make tough decisions to improve.

The Spurs were able to easily handle Harden in the playoffs since Beverly wasn't much of an offensive threat. Adding CP3 makes scheming for that backcourt almost impossible.

I won't fault Dame, C.J or Nerk if they try and force there way out of Portland. I will not be upset.
