CP3 wont give a commitment to either the Warriors or Clippers.

He's doing the same damn think Melo did last year.

Same fucking story.
not really. makes no sense for him to extend anywhere, not even NY or LA. Loses lot of money.

If they don't trade him he'll lose $40m if he signs with the Knicks.

He's trying to force the Hornets to deal him for the scraps that NY could only offer.

We need another work stoppage if this keeps happening. Fans across the US should boycott the NBA.

not neccesarily. he might sign with GS or LAC. But he won't siggn an extension with any team. Not NY, not Lakers.

No more Kevin Durant or Russell Westbrook moves allowed. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7329584/nba-alters-emphasis-shooting-fouls-2011-12

"Rip-through" moves, in which an offensive player swings the ball into a defender's outstretched arm and then attempts a shot once he has created contact, will be considered non-shooting fouls if the contact begins before the offensive player starts his shooting motion.

Also, on drives to the basket, a shooting foul will be called only if contact occurs after the offensive player has begun his shooting motion, not after he has initiated his leap toward the basket.

"Certain types of contact involving the shooter were all being called in his favor," Jackson said. "It doesn't look good for the game. There was a strong feeling that those types of plays were creating an ill-advised reward for the shooter, often with three free throws."

And more rule changes mentioned. I like them all. Just wish they'd actually enforce them even after January.

Then don't trade him. If he wants to lose 40 million to go where he wants then I can respect that. Why should he have to sign an extension to the city of New Orlean's choice? I don't like the guy and I am glad we did not trade for him , but if he plays hard this year and then actually goes to NY for less money, then I will at least have a little respect for him.

Since someone else also asked: I'd put $ on CP3 being in California on Christmas. I like to have the odds stacked in my favor when I bet.

Come on Warriors!

That would make my month -- Laker and Knick fans freaking out over CP3 heading to Golden State.

Or not...

warriorsworld warriorsworld
per @Chris_Broussard the warriors have dropped out of the cp3 race

I don't think that Clip rumor is a true one, most likely put out by Paul's agent. If the clippers had offered that, the deal would be done already.

I gotta correct myself; I was thinking about the warrior's offer.

Ha! Lakers have the 32 year-old Gasol as their centerpiece for CP3.

For a rebuilding team you don't trade for someone on the tail end of his prime.

It sounds like the Lakers might end up offering the most, since suddenly the Warriors and Clippers won't part with Curry or (and this is mystifying to me) Eric Gordon.

Will somebody explain to me why a lockout that was supposed to help small market teams keep its good players has resulted in it being massively unprofitable for a player to sign an extension?

the mechanism for them to make the most money is to play out their contract and have their current team pay them the most. If you want to tack years onto the end of your contract, you're going to take a hit if you're trying to do it for another team. I'd have to recheck, but I don't think it's a problem if CP3 wants to extend with NOH.

This could be referred to as the "you can't have your cake and eat it, too" rule. If you want big $, you have to take a hit in flexibility of where to go. If you want to be a truly "free" agent, there's a price for that. If CP3 and the others give up 8 figures to go play where they want to play, that's their right.

So the full MLE? That would have been nice to have

maybe, if Chucko is getting that type of high offer then there is going to be a lot of bad contracts given out (see Travis Outlaw), maybe better just to sight a low MLE guy and then see how things shake out and maybe do a trade ot two before the deadline.

LMA was getting good at the "rip-through" move.

This new CBA is amazing. It hasn't even been ratified yet and it's completely restored competitive balance to the universe!

"All 25 teams, if well managed, will have the opportunity to watch five teams take turns winning championships."

Hahaha. So true

Glad to see the rip-through being demoted as a legit offensive move. With it being a non-shooting foul, it really re-balances the risk/reward evaluation in attempting it. If you try it and the defender doesn't bite, it usually results in a really bad shot. So risking that just to draw a foul typically on a perimeter defender (who isn't likely to foul out) just doesn't seem as great of an idea now.

But you know how many championships you need to be 4th all-time? 4. Aside from the L*kers, Celtics (who've won 1 in 25 years) and Jordan's Bulls (was that a Free-Agent SuperFriends Team?), the Spurs are 4th with their 4 championships.
I don't know that San Antonio was a hotbed of basketball in 1988. They won the lotto a couple times with the Admiral and Duncan, and made making a good organization their priority. I don't know that the Kings or Suns of the early-to-mid 2000's were all that far from winning. Indiana made it to the Finals. Boston sucked for almost 20 years between Bird's retirement and McHale's KG trade. The last big East Coast "basketball hotbed" city to win the championship before that was...who? NYK in 73? Not NJN. PHI (83?). WAS (78?). MIA wasn't even a team until 1988.

Is HOU, the 4th-largest city in the US, a warm-weather city with no state sales tax and a creative GM, being talked about as one of those 5? What about the Clippers? If the Nets are one of the powers now, who's to say that LAC can't be?

Sure, MIL may never have a dynasty. Neither will a lot of teams. Only the L*kers and Bulls over the last 20 years have had a "dynasty," and that probably has to do with teams having 2 of the top 5 players in the League while playing for Phil Jackson. I'm not lumping D'Antoni, Spoelstra, Avery Johnson or Vinny Del Negro in Zen Master category...no matter who they have on their team. Sorry.

BTW, Berger's one of the guys I've lost a lot of respect for this lockout, in terms of his views, opinions and reportage.

And that you can only take two steps after picking up the ball. Maybe something clever like "traveling."

(ahem) CrabDribble (ahem)

and how about a Kobe rule. If you barely touch him, its not a foul. If he smacks you, it is a foul! If he cries about it, its a technical foul.

Kinda like one game I saw where Kome drilled Blankey in the throat with his elbow -- tweet -- foul on Blankey's adam's apple. NBA, It's FAN-tastic.

Well now that Paul is going to the Lakers.

Ken Berger says the Knicks would move Ronny Turiaf to make room for Chandler, i wonder how much they would want for him.
