Billups must really like Edniesha Curry. Whether it's as a player development coach or just flat out as an assistant, she must be really impressive to make this leap. This is also good intell into what kind of head coach Billups will be, so I'm interested. I liked the Scott Brooks hire as the lead assistant, and Roy Rogers is said to have done well for defenses and helping a number of players. Communication. Player development. Sounds good for having players develop and building a team. Good.

It will still come down to roster moves this summer by Olshey. Priority 1A: Keep Powell. Without this, swinging for the fences on a trade becomes harder. A sign and trade is not the direction to go. Priority 1B: Go for it on the big trade. Overpay if necessary. Compete? Contend? All in. Otherwise, it's acting from a position of weakness in a year. A good staff will be needed to bring the new team together.

Apples & Oranges example here.
I agree that everyone needs to start from somewhere, but situation and context matter.

Stotts was an experienced Head Coach with 10+ years experience as an assistant when he did that.
Spoelstra started under NBA Coaching legend Riley. Again, there was a ton of experience there.

We have Billups (who I think was the right hire), but he only has 1 year of being an assistant coach. He needs a bench full of EXPERIENCED coaches to help support him.
Hiring Curry from a crappy low-level University (that did not improve while she was there) - is not what Billups needs to be successful.
So your saying you know more then Billups on his hire. She just might a great hire. Hell Maine probably wasn't getting the cream of the crop of recruiting circles.

Whatever came of Lionel Hollins?

no they won’t. They will run with the “this is a PR move” angle. Nothing is more predictable. But also, who gives a fuck what they think or feel?
STOP Posting.... I'm getting Like Button Carpal Tunnel!
:)

Seriously, I saw them hiring Billups ages ago, and them hiring a female coach ages ago as well. I'm quite sure that it has nothing to do with the bruhaha - it has more to do with a combination of Neil wanting to appear progressive and having a female owner.

I'm confused that anyone thinks Neil is not going to do whatever the hell he wants.

not sure how anyone can confidently praise or condemn any of the coaching hires until we see a season or two of results
Unless Chauncey wins a championship we can’t accurately do that until after Hammon is hired somewhere else.

Wonder when they'll all reconvene in Portland. I saw CJ posted pics of himself hiking the Columbia River Gorge with the trainers (didn't realize they were still with the team), but you'd figure the new assistants/Chauncey would start working out a summer plan with the players soon.

Summer League is about 2 weeks away.

Chauncey Billups really deleted his instagram. Lmao.

think nash might be the only head coach with an IG acct left. I don't see this as a big deal.

I didn't think it was. I was just surprised because I went to look for it and it's gone. Probably was getting a lot of hate comments on it.

he really wasn’t, I followed him lol. He also didn’t really post anything though. Hasn’t posted anything on twitter in over a year either.

Interviewed for a couple HC jobs; here’s an article about him. Seems like a player development guy.

“Prior to that, Hetzel worked as a player development coach with the Detroit Pistons for four seasons. In that role, Hetzel was responsible for identifying individual strengths and weaknesses, then creating a progression plan and monitoring player growth during the season.”

Learned from Clifford for quite a while so I assume he has some defensive chops. Or at least, I hope.

He was one of the hot coaching candidates ESPN highlighted last year.

Steve Hetzel- Orlando
Praised for his work with Kemba Walker in Charlotte and this season with Markelle Fultz, Hetzel carried his reputation as a teacher and communicator into an interview for the Cleveland vacancy last summer. Having come up as a video coordinator, Hetzel has always had a knack for detail. In recent years, players and coaches have admired his ability to establish trust with players through sweatequity -- he tells them the unvarnished truth and furnishes them with information that will make them better.

All things being equal, that is a fairly underwhelming support staff...

weird, I think Billups and Brooks alone bring more credibility to the staff than I’ve seen since...idk...well before Stotts’ time. Billups will have every players respect from day one. That’s not an easy thing to accomplish, especially as a new coach. Players also love Brooks, shit he might be the only coach Westbrook ever truly respected.

Rogers and Hetzel also have good reputations although I’m not as familiar with them.
