Let's make sure we never trade for any player unless they are almost perfect....whether they are a multi-time all star and elite defender/passer or not. Only nearly perfect players are allowed here.
I agree especially when our player being discussed in the trade is perfect in every way.

The Simmons haters are unreal in their negative evaluation of Simmons. Its not like we are suggesting trading Dame, Bill Walton in his prime or Drexler circa 1991. We are talking about trading CJ McCollum a Zero time All-star and in the running for worst perimeter defense in the league.

What’s even more amazing is the hate of Simmons is almost exclusively due to a single playoff series. Recency bias and myopic focus on Offense. I hope all the Simmons haters were huge Stotts fans. He was monolithically focused on offense and shooting in particular as well. People are just straight up ridiculous.

“Rejoice for another season of mediocrity that might push Dame over the edge and blow up the team!” Lol wut?!

In comparison to Philly, i don't see any hate in here for Ben Simmons. Just worries about his attitude & commitment to his craft. If he becomes a Blazers, I'm sure ,just about, everyone in here will root for him to succeed. Being a fan of CJ, and the way he carries himself, shouldn't be a crime.

It's not a crime. I'm not a fan of CJ for lots of reasons, but I don't begrudge the fandom of others. I was simply saying that Simmons is just a better player, and I stand by that. I also believe he fits our needs and has less redundancy than CJ. Some folks here definitely are Simmons haters. I dislike CJ in part because I was adamantly opposed to drafting him, I wanted Giannis among others with Giannis as my number 1, instead. You can search on Blazers Edge to see this is a true claim. I often wonder about the timeline where we drafted Giannis.

I don’t see any crying. Just a lot of folks staking out their position. Find us an available allstar caliber wing, or something more intriguing to talk about. I personally won’t move on until one of CJ or Simmons is traded.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but in the Simmons case you are conflating on-court and off court concerns. I'm sure I am not the only one who could live with his questionable shooting, but balk at his apparent immaturity and attitude.

What do you mean by "immaturity and attitude"? I've never seen one report of him being a problematic teammate. He hasn't even said anything publicly about the current situation. I might be missing something, so please point out an example of his lack of maturity and bad attitude if you have any.

why? there has not even been a hint at a resolution. Every sportsbook even has us as the leading favorite for his next destination.

you're welcome not to click on the thread if this bugs you. :dunno:
I was referring to Mike Richmond and the roster being basically set and we are the ones not wanting to trade CJ for Simmons. If we’re not going to trade Cj for him and def not trading Dame then what is there to talk about?

The season starts soon so once training camp starts we will see where Simmons is.

The Neil bashing and crying Neil is this and that for not trading CJ.

1. mike richman is hardly a good source. I don't think he even has any media credentials anymore.
2. It's the dog days of summer. What else would you like to talk about?

I'm not going to argue the exact percentages, but it is no where near "exclusive".

If Doc's rather mild criticisms caused a meltdown, why would you expect him to take directions from a rookie head coach? This kid has Butler 2.0 written all over him, and I have no desire to see our team left as road kill in that sort of multiseason soap opera!

Now, if Philly paniced and sold at a discount - that would be different. IMHO, that won't be happening. Eventually, some team will panic and make a fat offer.

Trading for a player and projecting what players will accomplish in the future is not perfect nor is it a 100% guarantee of an outcome.

Its possible to be perfectly logical and reasonable in a believe its better for the Blazers to keep CJ than trade him for Simmons.

You have your opinion that its better to trade for Ben, others can have a different opinion that its better to keep CJ. If you only want to see your opinion maybe you should only have discussions with yourself.

What the hell do you call his meltdown over some fairly minor (and 100% accurate) criticism? You can't possibly see the way he is handling this as mature and professional?

Of course, there have been plenty of articles about his attitude issues - but the pro-Simmons side of the argument has declared any negative news about the kid to be false, so no point in digging them up and quoting them.

BTW, in that 5 game series this past season vs Washington, Simmons averaged:

14.8 pts, 10.2 rebs, and 9.2 asts on 64% FG in 32 mpg. Shot horribly from the line, but the counting stats are impressive.

Often forgotten.

Can you imagine if Portland had a player averaging almost a triple-double in the Playoffs with that kind of D on the other side of the ball? I'll take that any day and ask that the coaching figure out one guy that can't shoot but can score into the offense.

Not true in the least from what I've seen. I don't know of anyone denying his shooting deficiencies. I do know of a LOT of people who think Dame (best leader in the NBA, right?) and his influence on that kind of talent is worth the risk given the multitude of other things he does...VERY well.

Simmons demands to be traded, but refuses to do anything to maintain his value.
https://nba.nbcsports.com/2021/09/0...-76ers-after-daryl-morey-doc-rivers-comments/

Simmons wanted Doc punished for being critical of him.

If you were Simmons and the story wasn't true, wouldn't you deny it and demand a retraction?

I can hear it now -"Stephen A Smith is not a credible source"!!! Even if you believe Smith is a liar, why did the Simmons camp say or do nothing to refute it?
trying to figure out what's wrong with any of this. Why is it Simmons' responsibility to maintain trade value when Morey has been dangling him in offers for a year? Simmons has to come out and publicly refute Stephen A's slander? Not everyone has twitter fingers like Dame.

Hell, you'd think Scott Brooks would welcome that on his team after struggling to do anything against him in the playoffs just months ago.

If it's the fact that he's a Klutch client that you don't like then I get that but Ben himself hasn't been a part of this stuff. He did reportedly meet with the team and at that point he said he wanted out. Even if he said he wouldn't do anything to recoup trade value, I just don't see that being enough to question his character after four seasons where no one heard a peep about him being a bad guy or immature or having a bad attitude.

The guy had a bad series, his coach and teammate didn't exactly have his back, the team tried to trade him for the second consecutive off season but couldn't get what they wanted for him, so he demanded a trade and threatened to sit out camp. If you don't like that enough to dismiss his talent, skills and upside then we don't see eye to eye. Not a big deal. If you want to start questioning his character because of those things I think you're going a little too far but again that's your prerogative.
