Best backcourt in modern era: NOT the Splash Brothers

The 3 guard rotation of Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars and Vinny Johnson beat Magic and the Lakers in the 1989 finals 4 games to 0.

The next season, Thomas, Dumars and Johnson beat Drexler & Porter in the 1990 finals, 4 games to 1.

I did not like this Pistons team, but there is no getting around how good their 3 guard rotation was. Thomas, Dumars and Johnson were one of the best backcourts, if not the best of all time.

Jerry and Gail. I'm still fond of Gail.

I found it interesting to see that probably the best list is on a site called Celtics Life and it lists Jerry West and Gail Goodrich as the #1 duo.

If there had been a 3pt shot, West and Pistol Pete would've put up insane offensive stats. West averaged 20.3 with bum knees when he was 35

This is the correct choice if you're looking at true NBA history. Check out the list I posted a link to

Alright! A writer agrees with me! I must be doing something wrong.

Best list I've found but it goes to show the old school guys really ruled the list

Good article. It ran 2 years ago and looks like it was written almost 15 years ago. Either that, or Celtics writer Cort Reynolds really knows his old-time stuff.

He made solid gold choices. Honorable Mention includes Geoff Petrie/Larry Steele (Portland 1971-75) and Blazers-with-other-teams Kerr and Vandeweghe.
