Blazer Fanatic has been banned.

So mods, why was this situation handled differently? Has forum policy changed. Is everyone going to be on a shorter leash? Do these changes have anything to do with S2 being the official forum of the Portland Trail Blazers? I'm not making any accusations, just asking questions.

BNM

We have no black and white way of handling things. We look at the person, their history at RC2/S2 and what the problems are. When then make a decision from there. These changes have nothing to do with RC2/S2 being the official forum of the Portland Trail Blazers. They leave us alone.

And yes, it's always welcome for people to ask questions. That's why the first thing I did after banning her was telling the forum I did it. I'm doing this to invite discussion.

Does she know she was getting banned? What did she say? Did she respond by brow beating you with insults about how small your pecker is?

No, I did not send her a PM telling her she was going to be banned.

What was her reaction when you threw the hammer down on her?

Did she unleash one of her Lisa Lampenelli like diatribes on you?

Exactly.

Besides, as I said before, if you're being told you're pushing the envelope, isn't that enough? That's my big question for B-N-M. If the mods are repeatedly telling a poster to simmer down, and the behavior doesn't change, why should they let the poster off with a 24-hour suspension? A weak slap on the wrist isn't going to fix anything when a poster is ignoring repeated warnings.

Who said anything about a 24-hour suspension? Not me. Don't make it a weak slap on the wrist. Make it count. Suspend them for two weeks, or a month. In the past, we've seen 3-day, week long and I believe even month long suspensions. Just because suspensions didn't work on Mixum/Carlito and Mediocre Man, why the automatic assumption they won't work for Blazer Fanatic (or anyone else)? If the short term suspensions don't work, make them longer. Give the offending poster a couple weeks to decide if they really want to participate here knowing that they will have to modify their behavior if they do.

I agree, a 24-hour suspension is useless. I often go that long, or 48 hours or 72 hours without visiting the forum because I get busy with other things. That's completely voluntary, so to me a 24-hour ban would be meaningless.

Besides, again... it's all moot. The poster can come right back with a new username.

Yeah, that was my problem with Mixum/Carlito. He as banned, came back with a new username and within about an hour everyone knew he was Mixum because he didn't change his disruptive behavior. Mods/Admins have the ability to see posters IP addesses, and when somebody who has been banned comes back with the same (or similar) IP address and starts posting in the exact same disruptive manner that got them banned in the first place, they should be banned immediately and their IP address blocked. That's what should have happened with Carlito, but he, as a repeat offender, got MUCH more leeway than Blazer Fanatic.

So yes, to answer my own question, evidently things have changed.

Reading through this thread is pretty funny. Posters PM a mod to complain about BF. Mods ban BF and some very vocal posters saying banning unjustified and start calling the people who complained whiners.

So when is complaining whining and when is whining complaining. Because there is either a whole lot of whining about BF AND whining about her banning and the posters who whined about her. Or there is a lot of complaining about BF AND complaining about her banning and those who complained againt her.

But somehow some think sending a PM to a mod (never me BTW) is whining but calling posters whinners mulitiple times and complaining about the banning is not whining?????

I think it has to do more with whining behind someone's virtual back, and not in the open forum. I respect any posters who call me out in the public forums. I may not agree with them, but at least I know where I stand with them.

I have never used week or month long suspensions and I can't recall when we have. That may be something we look into in the future.

We have no way to ban an IP address. There is no such feature in the forum software.

So still, none of the hordes (whoops) of posters who were PMing the mods will admit to it in this thread? The very thread that explains why the poster they wanted banned was banned, with the reason being directly related to their covert complaining?

LOL

I think forcing the person to come back with a new screen name, by very nature of this forum (i.e. no IP bans) is about as tough a punishment as one can get. I really don't understand the bitching about this.

And yes, things have changed. I thought that'd be apparent by reading the thread (as a few others have said).

Its kinda weird how you say she was more knowledgeable than 90% of the posters here. She never really talked basketball outside of her long-winded opinion and taking anything that she perceived as negative into a rant that berates you. In summary, everyone on the Blazers is the best player in the NBA and anybody on any other team absolutely sucks. I don't find that very knowledgeable. But, then again you said you didn't read a lot of her posts. After awhile I didn't either. My brain told me to skip them.

LOL

She talked hoops more than 95% of us here, myself included.

I still stand by my theory that I laid out in my first post in this thread. Makes too much sense.

What a great way to get MM back in here? Say that you banned the chick he called a kunt.

Actually, she started some good threads about basketball, but they quickly devolved into shouting matches and pissing contests. So, I usually stopped reading those threads after the first few responses. Maybe that's why I don't recall ever seeing her post anything ban worthy. I do remember her and Mediocre Man getting into it a time or two, but from what I read, the things he typed were much more offensive than anything I saw from her.

Nevermind. I can tell who the people complaining to daddy about BF were based on their posts in this thread.

I never thought you'd be one to whine to the mods without first confronting the poster on the forum.

No one needs to admit anything.

The decision was made to ban BF late last night. It was decided not to do it until this morning so the forum could be told about it. This was done to encourage discussion.

Totally agree. I'd like to say it's the ones who are saying they understand/aren't surprised/don't care about the banning.

But that'd be implicating myself. And I didn't complain - I don't really care one way or the other, but I understand it and don't blame the mods, so I'm not going to cry. It's a message board for chrissakes.

Of course no one needs to admit it. I find that a chickenshit approach, but again, it's obvious who those posters are at this point.

LOL. I never thought your posts could get more lame.

Believe me, I never said anything. I've barely been here the last several days.

I haven't whined to anyone about anyone. I've never said anything about BF. In my experience, it's usually the first person to point fingers and call people out if the biggest of the snakes, though. :dunno:

You've been implicated.

Honestly, I could never decide if BF was real or just a persona. The always angry and scornful act got pretty thin. I couldn't help but wonder if it was a guy pretending to be a stereotypical pre-menstrual woman.

Too bad. Whoever they were, their posts could be informed and articulate when they stuck to basketball.

she had the same schtick at blazersedge over the summer. She probably got banned there and that's why she started posting here. We came over around the same time. but i don't know for sure

Thanks, didn't know that.

That came out wrong. What I meant was, you aren't one to complain to mods without confronting the poster. Read it with that in mind, and I hope it makes sense.

My apology for the shitty wording. I can see how you interpreted it that way you did. I like you as a poster. No bullshit or games.

By PapaG.

<BIG YAWN>

Guilty as charged. LOL.

Not that you care, but it wasn't my intent. Same goes for Zags. He can have asshole posts like mine, but at least you know where you stand with him.

I've never cared for her posts but I never sent a PM to anyone.

Sorry - my bad. I was reading it as being called out for reporting BF because I was defending the mods. I don't really care one way or the other - I understand why the mods did what they did (even if others have been given different treatment). While I noticed she/he was getting annoying, I just gloss over it, and I have been so busy of late, I hadn't noticed it was progressing.

I don't think I've ever initiated a complaint with the mods via PM (eh, I think I did once, but that was like 3-4 years ago, and about language one user was using in attacking several posters, but that poster is long gone and knew I wasn't a fan).
