That is an unbelievable deal for a guy I consider to be a future transcendental talent. Hell, I'd reluctantly put Dame on the table for Simmons.

Philly is being stupid. They're ready to break up a Simmons-Embiid core for the next ten years to placate Jimmy Butler? Or maybe it's because they can't manage two young talents? They can't be that dumb, can they? They should invest in a better culture or veteran leadership that will help those two cope. It's the modern day Shaq-Penny.
Allegedly, the reasoning behind potentially splitting up Embiid and Simmons is primarily because Simmons can't play outside. He and Embiid often crowd one another in the post. Wouldn't be so much of a problem if they could play the fast-paced transition game Simmons wants, but Embiid is much more half-court, so he's almost always trailing fast breaks.

Honestly, I would think decent coaching would be able to alleviate those issues, but for some reason Brett Brown apparently hasn't quite been able to figure it out yet.

Depends on how we do this year in the playoffs and Dame's mindset, but if we could land Simmons on a rookie deal in exchange for paying Dame his supermax, I'd seriously consider it.

(Sorry, Blazer bball Gods).

Simmons contract is up after next year so it's a rookie deal for only one more year

won't be a supermax

I have no ideas what it will be for but many players make a lot of money but aren't supermax contracts. I'm not even sure Simmons would qualify for a supermax. McCollum doesn't have a max contract and neither does Lillard.

um no. Dame's next contract will most likely be a super max in the range of a 5/235. Simmons is on a diff scale

You missed my main point.

1st neither one of us have any real insight as to what Simmons will be offered.

2nd A player can still be paid a ton of money and not be a max contract so saying Simmonns won't get a supermax isn't all that relevant in what i was discussing. Did i miss something?

Simmons inability to shoot would be a major concern for our system. However, you still probably do the above deal.
I look at it this way: Would CJ, Collins, and a 1st round pick get you Anthony Davis? Probably not considering what teams like the Lakers and Celtics could possibly offer this summer.

However, if we called them this summer and offered Ben Simmons (plus salary filler) for Anthony Davis then you have a damn good chance of having the best offer.

Too bad it would never happen.

As long as Neil thinks CJ is an Superstar he will stay in Portland until 2021. You know it fams

From Clutchfans (It doesn't work anymore because they traded MCW a couple days ago)...

Blazers get Brandon Knight, Carmelo Anthony, Marquese Chriss, and Michael Carter Williams

Rockets get Aminu and ET

I wouldn't actually mind an ET for Brandon Knight type swap that saves us a little money this year and next year but the other three wouldn't be worth Aminu. There would have to be another player involved since MCW is no longer on the team but a 4 for 2 type of trade would mean we'd also have to cut 2 players which I wouldn't want to do for those guys. Maybe if a 3rd team was involved and Houston gave up a 1st rounder?

We do have insight as to what Simmons will be offered, since the CBA limits the percentage of the cap that can be offered to Simmons. AFAIK, he hasn't reached the same benchmarks that Dame reached prior to the conclusion of his rookie deal, so Simmons couldn't be offered a contract starting at any more than 25% of the cap. Dame's supermax would start at 35% of the cap, so the financial difference in having Dame or Simmons is essentially 10% of the salary cap, which is what @yuyuza1 alluded to in his initial comment of "landing a player on his rookie deal instead of paying Dame his supermax" (a conclusion it is safe to infer since Dame's supermax, should he sign one, wouldn't take effect until 2021).

Saw this one and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'd probably do it but man it's tough to give up Layman right now.

"Blake, Ish, GR3 and Zaza for Turner, Leonard, Collins, Layman, Baldwin and this year's 1st (expecting it to be around 25th)."

Neither owner would do it though. We're adding too much tax/salary and they probably won't trade Blake.

Lillards contract after his rookie contract was at 25% even though he qualified for the 30%.

I think the difference was split. He didn't take the full 5% but he did get like 2-2.5% more, if I remember correctly.

I just read an article about a week ago explaining Lillards contract and it said 25%. but one never knows the exact details for sure. My only point was that he was willing to take less than he could have and may do the same with his next contract to help the team.

I saw this idea on another forum, and generally liked the idea. Here it is with a few additional tweaks...

Atlanta - Portland
Bazemore ($18.1M + $19.3M) + Dedmon ($7.2M expiring)
for
Turner ($17.9M + $18.6M) + Meyers ($10.6M + $11.2M) + 2019 1st Pick

Portland dumps ~$3M this year and $11M next year for the price of a pick. Atlanta picks up a draft asset for their trouble. It's been talked about that Atlanta already has 3 FRP in 2019 (Atlanta, Cleveland, and Dallas), but the Cavs pick is protected enough (top 10) that they will not see it this year.

Milwaukee - Portland
Hill ($19M + $1M) + Brogdon ($1.5M + RFA) + Wood ($1.5M) + 2020 & 2021 2nd Picks (from Washington)
for
McCollum ($25.7M +$27M + $29M) + Swainagan ($1.7M + $2M) + Cutting Stauskus for roster spot.

Brogdon vs McCollum are the main players. Arguments can be had on both sides about who is the better player..... Everyone else is trade fodder. One additional bonus, is that I really like the idea of getting Wood in Portland, as I think he'd fit really nice next to both Nurk & Collins.

This trade saves Portland ~$5M which would take them out of the tax (with the ~$3M savings in the Atlanta trade).

Final roster would look like this:
PG: Dame, Hill, Baldwin IV
SG: Brogdon, Curry, Simmons
SG: Bazemore, Layman, Trent
PF: Aminu, Harkless, Wood
C: Nurk, Collins, Dedmon

What tweaks did you make?

The Hawks also have 3 2nd round picks and their GM has actually said they're looking for picks in future years. I don't think I'd be too upset with this trade. I'd prefer to get back Prince if we are giving up a pick but Bazemore is okay and the savings is decent.

I'm all in on the Bucks trade. I was one of the people saying Brogdon is a better fit for out team. Depending on what he signs for it would most likely be a more reasonable contract than CJ's too. I don't see the Bucks doing this and giving up Wood and 2nd rounders too though.

These are horrible trades. Rockets would improve big time with Turner and Aminu. Why would we want to help them?

This thread is where you post trades that you see in other team's forums. It helps give a gauge as to how our players are valued without our own biases.

So Simmons can't shoot and wants to play in transition. I can't get over this odd feeling that his type of game doesn't exactly fit Stotts....

From a comment on Atlanta Hawk's SB Nation blog, the game thread tonight:

This is the team I believe the Hawks should deal with before the deadline
Len, Lin and Prince for Harkless and Leonard.
I think trading Dedmon may be a mistake because of his improved performance particularly with Young at the point. Dedmon is a free agent but may want to continue to play with a pass friendly offense.
Leonard serves as the reserve center who relieves Dedmon but also offers more quickness in establishing the pick and roll than Len would.
Harkless gives us the defensive presence Prince can’t and we get an extended look at both Harkless and Daniel Hamilton

Thoughts?

Hell yeah, but surely they’d ask for at least a second round pick included. Meyers’ shooting this year has been really helpful but getting their money off the books and getting Lin (who I think is honestly a starting quality PG) back would be huge. Len is definitely a capable backup C, Prince could be something solid and has time to grow especially in a team like ours, seems like a steal.

Gladly throw in a 2nd rounder for that. If they did that without requiring a future 1st I will be back on the Olshey apologist bus.

@Jade Falcon This would be an incredible trade for us. I don't really care about getting Len but if we had to take him to make it work then fine. Between this one and the Dallas one (ET and CJ for Barnes, Wes, and Dennis Smith Jr) you have brought my favorite two trade ideas of the whole season. Thank you. I would seriously cream my pants if we pulled that trade off without having to give picks. Maybe Dame being out tonight and Harkless and Leonard playing well was exactly what we needed to get a deal like this done.

We could then turn to Sacramento to deal ET and a 1st for an expiring. We'd be under the tax and have cleared all 3 of our bad contracts next year. I love it!

According to the Hawks fans on Reddit, they confirmed that there is something going on between Portland and Atlanta for a deal of some sort. Of course, it's some anonymous people on the internet saying that, so take it for what it's worth.

But it would be very interesting to see what, if anything, comes of this.

If Atlanta was willing to do the trade Jade posted then you include Sacramento and throw them a lottery protected 1st this year:

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8dtfuyy

Portland clears the luxury tax line easily (enough to add a buyout player without going back in), creates a big trade exception, adds Prince and Skal for next year, would have full bird rights on Lin, and our total guaranteed salary for next year would be $90,110,993 with 9 guys under contract so we could reasonably be players in free agency for the mid tier guys and still re-sign guys like Layman and Aminu.

My god that would be beautiful.

I would do anything for that trade to be true.

A bad franchise bailing out Olshey means you'll be back on the Olshey apologist bus?
