Blazers are for Sale

No matter who buys the team, they are not moving, that's for sure.

The league jumped through hoops to make sure the Kings wouldn't't leave Sacramento. The league is still dealing with no team in a major market like Seattle. Moving teams create bad feelings among the fans of a loyal city and scares other fans. It is bad for the NBA, bad juju, and bad for the brand.

I don’t trust Adam Silver

tentative good news....I think

although the way the Vulcans have slow-walked so far, the sales process could drag on for 2-3 years

I'd think the Seattle mother-ship has known this was coming for a while now and it kind of makes the Cronin/Chauncey extensions look like attaboy rewards for being good soldiers
A couple million on their contracts is irrelevant to the price a buyer is paying for a ~3 billion or whatever NBA team. Its better they have some years locked up in those key management positions so there is no uncertainty during the process. Maybe the sale goes for a few years and this shows that Blazers management will be stable during that time.

I've been a critic of many of Cronin's moves - but in this case its a benefit having a stable GM for all of a huge transition process like this when there is an unknown conclusion date to the sale. Also unknown if the new owners will be hands off or hands on owner - this could let them slowly ease into that role.

I do know - he doesn't have the cash to do so.

I'm not worried if he's a couple percent owner or something. We saw what owning a couple percent got Mark Cuban with the Mavs. All control is with the owner that is the governor. No way Kolde can get to that spot.

Not a big Cuban fan but maybe he wants to be a majority owner again. One thing about Cuban is he wasn’t shy about trades or spending money to produce a winner

Can they include a don't move the team clause in purchase agreement?

Didn’t the Dodgers co owner have interest? Feels like that wouldn’t be a bad thing.

I hope no one too horrible buys them. I mean they are all super rich but there are still degrees. Please God not Elon.
I doubt Elon has much interest in owning a basketball team. Bezos maybe.

I don't think the Blazers will move.

But I could see the threat as a ploy to get the state to hand over dollars for arena upgrades. Look at the baseball bill that was discussed to have all the tax applicable to MLB player salaries given to fund the arena. I could see the new owner say they just want a fair similar treatment.

Only way I could see Cuban as an owner again was if its owning the Mavs. No way he wants to own a different team and play against the Mavs.

Would you guys still be Blazers fans if they moved to say Vegas? I do not think they will move. NBA wants us here when they bring back the Sonics.

That would reduce the value of the sale. Even if the new owners don't intend to move the team the threat can get them concessions from the city or other parties. With a no move clause they lose those negotiations.

Would the Paul Allen trust want to get less cash to add such a clause? I guess its possible, however I'd tend to suspect the trust will do whatever it can to maximize the sale price.

Somone like Elon could easily throw the cash around to blow past the 2nd apron and make it more likely the Blazers win a title.

Not that I want Elon as an owner - but you bring up an interesting question of what do I really want from a new owner.

Prayers do come true --- finally some good news

Also this puts pressure on Cronin and Billups cause good chance the new owners will want to bring in the own people so unless they crush it they are on borrowed time too.

BEST BLAZERS NEWS EVER ( outside of lotto luck )--- maybe since the new owners might suck but not going to focus on possible bad things only good things.

Jeesh, they don't win the lotto and they abandon ship

It has nothing to do with the draft lottery. It was reported shortly after Paul's death that the team would be sold and the $ would go towards charity. It was in Paul's will and there was a specific timeline for it to happen.

Cronin and Billups got long term guaranteed contracts. I'd expect they would be happy to get released, still get those checks, and add a 2nd paycheck elsewhere.

I think this might actually be good in terms of Cronin/Billups performance as they're going to want to take actions that and fundamentally strong to a variety of NBA owners, instead of trying to appease the delusional whims of Bert Kolde.

Why aren't the Seahawks for sale? I thought Paul Allen owned them as well?

No chance he gets to own them again especially now that they got Flagg. Blazers would give him chance to instantly have competitive young team with good draft Capital.

Nope. The team leaves, and my allegiance dies.

In fact, I would openly root against them, and would never root for another NBA team for the rest of my life. Even if a team returned to Portland.

Twas a joke....

I would think they would want to clear the books of shit contracts for a sale, even if it didn’t make complete basketball sense.

I really have no idea why it was announced today - perhaps it was related to the lottery, perhaps not. I don't understand how you would know either?

Not that it wouldn't be sold eventually or even in the next few months with a different lottery result. But it might have changed the timing or manner in which it was announced.

Jody also said these estate sales can take 20 years or longer. So sure seems like she could have drawn this out many more years if she wanted to.
