Magic sold his Lakers shares in 2010.
Shaq sold his Kings shares in 2022.

NBA doesn't allow owners to finance team purchase with debt.
An investment group will not necessarily have debt, but collectively be flush with cash as well as financial backing, sort of like Vulcan is. The point is not just one member has to bear the cost of purchase. Shaq would be a great guy to call.

Lot of celebrities own sports franchises or minority stakes in them..Russel Crowe owns a Rugby team Elton John a soccer team, Bill Maher was a minority owner of the Mets, Magic Johnson had a piece of the Lakers...Shaq the Kings, I don't know why Lebron or Melo who have investment corporations in place already or Dame who has connections with Toyota, Adidas, the Rap community, Boxing community and basketball would be any different than a Mark Cuban buying a team with financial support. They need a solid line of credit as much as anything. All those guys apparently have at least that going on. At any rate, somebody will jump at the chance to buy this team. I expect it to be soon and no....although I like the idea, I don't think it's going to be Dame..I just thought his injury might make him rethink his job description moving forward.
Then why not Clyde Drexler?

Does Melinda French Gates like basketball? Odds are she and Jody have met and maybe Jody would like to sell to a woman?
And she isn't Elon, Bezos, Qatar ..
I've heard something about her considering a team... I forget where I heard that though... It's been at least 6 months.

No matter who buys the team, they are not moving, that's for sure.

The league jumped through hoops to make sure the Kings wouldn't't leave Sacramento. The league is still dealing with no team in a major market like Seattle. Moving teams create bad feelings among the fans of a loyal city and scares other fans. It is bad for the NBA, bad juju, and bad for the brand.
Also, Portland is the largest market with only one pro team. We'll suffer and still support the team.

I could see Trump putting together an ownership group with big MAGA billionaire donors just to troll Portland.

I saw something at least year back that she along with Steve Jobs daughter?

I vote for Larry Ellison, 10ish years younger than Knight and the 4th wealthiest person in the world.

my preference/requirement:

1. one owner. i don't want a cooperative with a bunch of different voices.
2. understand the community and culture of portland.
3. care.
4. don't meddle in hoops stuff if you don't know hoops.
5. don't have skeletons or be a creep.

Is there time for someone like Knight to make a winning bid between now and the draft. Obviously that wouldn't get approved by the NBA board of governors in time for the draft but maybe just maybe he would install a guy not to replace Joe but to manage Joe and make the deal contingent on that person's authority being implemented before the draft???

Wild times to be a Blazers fan!
