We don't need an owner to have a bunch of basketball people on their payroll. The basketball people should be under the GM and on the Blazers payroll. Your basically describing having a bunch of Bert Kolde or Vulcan management interfering with the Blazers basketball operations.Yeah, I'm hoping that this press release is more of an announcement of a deal already done or on the verge of being done. If that is the case, I sincerely hope the new owner or ownership group already have some of their own basketball minds with experience either consulting with them or ready to take over basketball ops.
So, if it's just some super billionaire that just read the same story on ESPN that I did and called up Vulcan with a huge offer without having any basketball experience or anyone in their employ with a ton of basketball experience, I hope they never touch basketball ops because that would be an insane thing to do. I think most super billionaires looking to buy a sports franchise will have a lot of basketball minds on their payroll before they buy a team. Again if that's the case, I hope we get the vision of those new basketball people close to the new owner being implemented sooner rather than later, so things can start to be cohesive.
I continue to read on here and twitter about how happy people are about this and I haven’t got one reply on WHY? Change ain’t always good FAMS!

Will we know who the new ownership is before the draft?
He has no reason to be a cheapskate. He's old and has all the money in the world.Would Larry Ellison want to win or would he be more like a cheap skate?
Agreed. I want the GM dealing directly with the owner or president. We don't need an owner to have a bunch of basketball people on their payroll. The basketball people should be under the GM and on the Blazers payroll. Your basically describing having a bunch of Bert Kolde or Vulcan management interfering with the Blazers basketball operations.
If a new owner eventually wants to fire Cronin then fine go do that. But we don't need to have a new owner plus 3 other bosses Joe and Chauncey have to juggle dealing with.
And the future owners?Portland's ownership situation sucks is why
Oh so because fans don’t like the owner, the new owners will be better? Is that how it works? I can’t believe you actually got somebody to LIKE your collections of words here.Bro get over it lol.. nobody in this town ever liked the Vulcans you know that..
What kind of a loser would do that? Everyone knows Portland loves the Vulcans!I can’t believe you actually got somebody to LIKE your collections of words here.
Probably can't be much worse ... But just might be better - possibly much better. And the future owners?
I can give you a reason why this could be good. No not sure it's best but I'm intrigued.I continue to read on here and twitter about how happy people are about this and I haven’t got one reply on WHY? Change ain’t always good FAMS!
And the future owners?
What if it’s a meddling owner? There are shit owners. Jerry Jones, Dan Schneider, James Dolan. Then there are guys like John Fisher and Al Davis who would up and leave a city for money. Clay Bennett who lied to everyone to move the team to his hometown. I’ll take hands off, not caring and uninvolved over that other shitWorse than what? The last 3 or 4 years were not great, we can all admit that. If this would happen during the prime Dame era, I would have been a bit wary about a change. The structure seemed solid with an owner, Paul Allen, that was dedicated to the success of the franchise. Can we say the same about Jody Allen? She is not bad, but not great either in all that I can read and hear from different media that I follow. That's as much as I know and I am aware that it's just the tip of the iceberg.
But let's be honest. After 3 consecutive tanking years and just little progress this year, you can understand some fans wanting an ownership change. That doesn't guarantee anything. But could it be worse than 3 tanking years? Some may hope not and I am one of them.
Short answer, we just don't know.Oh so because fans don’t like the owner, the new owners will be better? Is that how it works? I can’t believe you actually got somebody to LIKE your collections of words here.
Given the political climate in the US, I don't think Americans can/should look down their noses at anyone else about this sorta stuff.Paul Allen didn't behead journalist or bribe the president or force women to wear veil.
Don't you remember WHY Phoenix had to have a new owner? The Russian Brooklyn takeover…..the new PHX guy? Jamie Gertz and the ATL situation with 12 owners. Just off the top of my head.
Ah yes, both-sides-ism. A favorite rhetorical device of Vladimir Putin.Given the political climate in the US, I don't think Americans can/should look down their noses at anyone else about this sorta stuff.
"Let's never change in case things get (even) worse."Oh so because fans don’t like the owner, the new owners will be better? Is that how it works? I can’t believe you actually got somebody to LIKE your collections of words here.
NFL banned it after Green Bay as they didn't want it to become a trend. The leagues don't want teams to be publicly owned - they want all owners to be able to take profit and sell for a gain. If one team has no need for profits it could put all the other privately held teams at a competitive disadvantage.Serious question: why hasn't the Green Bay model ever happened anywhere else? Why can't it?
Don't think anyone will ever know - perhaps it was a minor factor.I have not read up on this thread, so I apologize if that was already brought up, but does anyone else see the coincidence of the lottery with the announcement?
Other explanation I heard was this is related to the Seahawks. Seahawks had an agreement with Seattle over stadium funding that if the team was sold prior to 2025 there would be a big fee. Perhaps the trust wanted to ensure there weren't any arguments from Seattle or others that the trust was trying to duck that fee by artificially delaying a Seahawks sale. Since none of the Allen owned sports teams were sold prior to 2025 there is now no argument for that.
Just stop it with the -- no new owners from Seattle crap
The chances this team gets moved is between slim and none and none is half way out the building
What i want from a new owner is the following
1) Wants to WIN
2) Willing to spend money ( when needed )
3) Can be from anywhere just not middle eastern blood money so no ownership group from Saudi Arabia -- period
4 through infinity -- WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN .......... did I mention wants to WIN -
Why are you so happy? You know something we don’t?
