So in theory, we can do a Jones (9.7 mil) + Simons (3.9 mil) + Kanter (S&T 3 mil) + let's say a future first for Grant?

yes...I'm pretty sure the rule for Portland would be incoming salary has to equal or be less than outgoing salary + 5.1M

sweet. this makes our trade situation a bit less bleak then if we can use Kanter in a trade. Obviously, the team would want to take him on and he would have to agree, but that might not be too big of a challenge.

That's only if the resulting trade doesn't put Portland into the tax. Portland will most certainly be in the tax, so regardless of what trade they make they will be subject to the 125% +100k salary matching rule.

But yeah, we just need Kanter to sign for at least 2.4M to make that trade legal.

you're right. I was thinking of the rules for non-taxpayers

thanks for correction....I might hold a grudge though...:)

It will be interesting to see how his career compares to the guy taken right after him, Kessler Edwards. The CBS analyst had him rated as first round talent, saw an article suggesting Milwaukee take him at 31 and he looked a lot better on the Tankathon ratings than Brown (although they rated him at 45th in their mock). Great shooter and defender according to this:
"A huge factor in Edwards being a great shooter is off-ball movement and relocation. Throughout his college career, his usage rate has been average for a scorer of his caliber because he’s able to create advantages and space before catching the ball. He has the potential to be a pick-and-pop forward in the NBA, can come off pin-downs, shoot off movement and the catch, and beat close-outs for mid-range shots off a few dribbles with consistency (46.3 percent in the mid-range in 2021 per BartTorvik). Few 6’8 players come into the NBA with Edwards’ shooting resume.

The 2021 NBA Combine gave Edwards a platform to prove that his lockdown defense at Pepperdine wasn’t a product of being an NBA prospect in the WCC; he showed awareness and versatility within schemes and his head is always on a swivel, keeping him ready to help a teammate that gets beat. He’s not an elite athlete but he gives supreme effort on defense, is willing to rotate and protect the rim, has length with over a 6’11 wingspan, and keeps ball-handlers in front of him moving laterally."

both would’ve rather picked a guy who...went undrafted? And it wasn’t specific to this pick either, these two wanted Henry for the majority of the teams in the second. Lol huh?

I love this selection as a flyer. Even if he doesn’t pan out, an athlete of his caliber and size means more ability in practice for Little and others to go against and simulate what the most athletic and long NBA wings possess.

and this guy, if things break right could be a disrupter on defense. It’s a low cost attempt to be better in the future while as an organization we have to concentrate more on getting better now. I doubt he provides anything this year. But we can’t play 15 players anyways.

I’d rather take a flyer on an young athletic monster with a high ceiling than a ground-bound more refined player whose physical limitations guarantee a low ceiling, even if it means a higher floor.

I also love that he plays with intensity. He just needs to develop skills.

I really like this kid. I think he has a bright future.

Definitely a lot to like from the first couple of games. Shot looks smoother than it did in college. Doesn't seem fazed or to be trying to do too much in summer league.

The Darius Bazely comparison seems pretty good, but I think Brown's ahead of him by quite a bit coming into the league.

He’s got good instincts defensively: getting in passing lanes, taking charges, blocking/altering shots, it’s all there. At the same time you can see how he needs to get stronger, as he’s gotten pushed around quite a bit. But that’ll just come with time. I don’t see him contributing as a rookie, but I think he’ll be really good in a year or two. He’s probably the most physically gifted player Olshey has ever drafted tbh.

I haven't listened to him talk... I'm curious if he's a sharp guy or if he sounds like a Thomas Robinson or Travis Outlaw.

If he had gone to UK, Probably a first round pick. Mid teens

I like Brown, Blankney and Kimg. And we should consider Faried to keep the bench warm / when players are in foul trouble. Can’t wait to see what we get out of Mudiay tonight [too lazy to check name spelling].

Not impressed with Ellesby
