Blazers interested in Spencer Hawes

Sounds like Cleveland is talking to Frye as a backup plan. They might not want to play ball in a sign and trade.

I forget what the deal was for... but yeah, he's with Cleveland.

Well Cleveland won't need Wright. They could wait on Leonard though, since they are about 3-4 years away from contention with the development of wiggins.

I seem to remember him playing in Philly, when I was actually paying attention to them last season. The trade must have been "mid-season", so bynum was out of the picture.

In an effort to add depth to their front line as they chase a playoff spot, the Cleveland Cavaliers have traded for Philadelphia 76ers center Spencer Hawes, the team announced Thursday.

The 76ers have been trading for draft picks and prospects since last summer as part of a long-term rebuilding project, and this deal fits that mold. The Cavs sent the 76ers two second-round draft picks and backup forward Earl Clark, while Cleveland shipped backup center Henry Sims to Philadelphia to complete the deal.

Lol, awesome:

SLAM: Is it true that Metta World Peace came to your childhood house?

SH: When the Kings played the Sonics, my mom didn’t quite understand how the NBA worked. She wanted to do a team dinner and I told her nobody would come. I asked everybody on the team and Ron Ron was the only guy who came. He said he never had pot roast before. Then he made the famous comment that if he had grown up in a house like mine he would have never worked hard for basketball. He gave me a hard time about that.

Free agent Spencer Hawes met w/ Warriors' GM Bob Myers in LA, who has trade exception to use; meeting with Doc Rivers shortly, sources say.

Yesss

I feel for Olshey. It appears Hawes is his top realistic FA target as he meet with agent before anyone else and first agent he meets with. But how much does Olshey really have to work with. An MLE and a bench that probably has very little value around the league. He has to sell Ptd and playing for the Blazer organization.

Can't blame Olshey for lack of effort and I'm confident he has the business skills to put the Blazers best foot forward. But he doesn't have a lot if tools at his disposal.

Didn't he meet with Chris Kaman last year at midnight? How did that work out.

Not well?

Olshey had money to play with last summer. Maybe Kamen was asking for too much. And good point maybe it will work out if Blazers don't get Hawes.

But hey I was never a big Hawes fan, only want him cause seems Olshey and Stotts really want him.

Gortat just got 5 years and 60 million.

That's 12 million a year. Hawes is going to be expensive.

He had a really good playoffs.

I think Gortat is more of a traditional type center. One that can play with his back to the basket, block shots and set picks.

I like Hawes, but he reminds me of that Dirk very light big. Stretch the defense out kinda player. I think there are more "shooting bigs" then traditional ones.

Well, I think Hawes is the perfect backup big. He can step into the Aldridge role while Robinson plays in the post.

I would much rather have Hawes than gortat as well. We already have our traditional center! :)

How'd they get him so cheap, 2 2nd round picks and earl clark?

We're spending $10-11M per year to replace Aldridge as backup Center? Shouldn't our #1 priority be elsewhere?

It should be but won't be we will end up with a scrap heap of a bench again next season and have to pray someone on the bench emerges.

Apparently bench scoring doesn't come cheap anymore and Stotts loves 7ft 3pt shooters so there's that

If the Blazers are so interested in Hawes I wonder why they let his cousin Dustin leave?

Maybe Spencer Hawes can be our backup PG too!
