FA Spencer Hawes is "very interested" in joining the #Blazers, according to a league source with knowledge of Hawes' thinking.

Maybe Spencer Hawes can be our backup PG too!

Damn after that video I really want to sign him. Excellent passing big man. He would really compliment this team. I can see why Doc is pushing hard for him too. No way we get him for the MLE

Worked out GREAT. We ended up getting Lopez instead and Lopez had the better season.

Lopez will end up with the better career. Aside from D-Ho, is there a better center in the league? Hibbert? Maybe. Balance out compensation (that means a lot when trying to build a roster today), then fuck no. Anyone else?

If we have LA, Robin, and Hawes splitting minutes at 32 apiece, we'll be golden in the front court.

I'm really confused with this Hawes/Monroe stuff...

Who's plan B here?

Neil meets with Hawes on the day of FA but it'd seem that Monroe would be the priority considering he's clearly the better player/prospect of the two.

Agreed. Depends what we spend and give up. I'm okay with money, the less player capital we spend, the better. Accumulate assets.

You got to believe it has to be done through a sign and trade . . . and then the question is if the Cavs have anything we want (that we are willing to give up)

Yeah as much as I hate to admit it, because I love what TRob brings, he seems like he would be a pretty good carrot to dangle to Cleveland. Joel could be our 4th big man and could also play both PF/C positions. TRob will need minutes to be happy.
He might feel bad at first with the trade but he and Wiggins would give Cleveland a nice young forward duo.

With Cleveland under the cap I am not sure what else they would want. Maybe nothing....

Yeah. I guess this all is kinda sad. Love our roster on and off the court, but we need to improve. So whatever it takes, I suppose.

He plays a lot like, Olynyk. Perhaps this is Olshey making up for not draft the Klynyk?

I feel the same way. And fact we are talking T-Rob, who is working so hard to fit with a team. But in Stotts system, the PF needs to be able to knock down that outside shot consistently and that isn't his strength.

Having said, that if T-Rob is on the roster when the season starts, he is will likely remain a fan favorite and deserves to be.

Hawes has been shooting above 40% from 3pt range over the last 2 years, which is more than we can say for any Blazer. He's similar to Marc Gasol with his passing ability.

Yep. We run the same offense regardless of who is in the game. Hawes seems like a natural for it with his passing and shooting skills from the high post. He and Trob would also mesh well together, so I would be happy if we could have both coming off the bench, but if I am Cleveland, I would be thrilled to get him for nothing. Hawes is gone either way.

Remember when Marcus Camby used to feed LA with some easy alley oops from the free throw line area? I think Hawes could do the same.

The last thing Cleveland needs is a smaller PF. Talent wise, TRob is a better option, but position wise Freeland &Wright make more sense for both teams.

You make a good point. But on the other hand, depending on the source, T-Rob is listed bigger than both Tristan and Bennett.
(I was looking on Hoopshype-granted not the best source) but yeah maybe they would prefer Joel.

As much as I want Hawes... I'd feel horrible sending Joel to Cleveland lol

Last year he averaged 1.6 3FGM. Those won't win us games. I'd rather have Olynick. Or better, Earl the Pearl "Greg" Monroe.

Hawes is a good passing big similar to McRoberts but his overall offensive skill set is much better. He would provide a nice veteran presence on the bench and his outside game would allow him to pair easily with Robinson.

Biggest issue in signing him would be Leonard, who would find himself completely buried on the bench again.

Our bench is very young and very much needing experience. If we bring in any player of consequence it will cut into one of their minutes. Not a good enough reason to not get better.

No. Hawes is actually decent.

At the age of 22, Hawes had a PER of 12.8 in his 3rd year in the league. As a rookie at the age of 22 years old, Olynyk had a PER of 15.2....

just sayin....

I would agree with this, but watching what happened with Jermaine Oneal this has to be a potential concern even if it is a minor one.

That's 4 points, how many games did we lose by 3 or less? And whose to say he won't shoot more of them in Stott's system?
