Right but then you are suggesting that the Magic would go forward, planning to contend this year with Reddick as their starting SG. I am not so sure they would dig that idea. They still feel they are contenders. Unless you think Paul and Jameer Nelson make a good back court, which I doubt. If it had to work IMO, it would have to be a 3 way.

New Orleans got rid of Tyson Chandler for a reason before. I don't see why they bring him back now.

It was at the time to save money. Remember when they traded him to OKC for next to nothing, however, he failed his physical? Now that he is expiring, he has some worth to them, but Dallas has no young pieces except Roddy, but since they have Collison that is a no go.

One difference: Joel's contract is 80% covered by insurance. That saves the Hornets 5 million bucks out of pocket (roughly)

IF he doesn't play. Nate says he'll be back for training camp.

I think it was Jay Jensen that said Joel could see 40 games next year

You don't think they would offer

Vince
Jameer
Gortat
Anderson

That was one of the deals their fans were offering.

Or something similar for PAUL?

What would Orlando rather have? Paul or Carter? Paul and Howard is a pretty devastating duo.

And Chandler, he's an expiring. That's all there is to it. If they want to cut salary....Chandler is expiring.

I don't see why NO would want that. They're trying to rebuild, and those are all bench pieces on a contending team besides Nelson, and they already have Collison.

No, in an interview 2 days ago, he said Greg should be good for training camp and Pryz a little later.

I'm not saying they would. I'm just responding to someone else who says Orlando won't do that.

For the upcoming season?

He borrowed Denny's Delorean for sports betting purposes and was Amazed to see Joel play 75 games for NOH. By the way LeBron knocks Wade the fuck out after his 10th post-game interview where LeBron is cropped out of the shot. ;)

There is a league-wide policy that insures the contracts of around 150 players each season. The five most expensive contracts for each team are included, and teams have the option of submitting additional names for coverage. The carrier has the right to exclude 14 contracts per season, such as when they consider a player with a very large remaining contract to be a medical risk. For example they excluded Luol Deng in 2008-09 because he had $71 million remaining and a history of back injuries. The list of excluded players changes each year, so a player who is not covered one season might be covered the following season.

If an insured player is disabled, then there is a 41 game waiting period, after which the insurance company will pay 80% of the guaranteed portion of the player's base salary. Once a player is covered, the carrier can't exclude the player for the remainder of his current contract.

If the player is traded, his new team receives the beneft -- for example, even though Cuttino Mobley's heart condition was discovered prior to his trade to the Knicks, the Knicks received the insurance payout.
From what I can understand. They can't exclude Joel's contract from being insured anymore, but he still has to miss 41 games in order for the company to pay 80% of the guaranteed portion of the salary. Correct me if I'm wrong.

He's already missed 52 ... the games he misses just get added to that total, it's not a per year thing.

thanks for the update. Except that in the past there have been big deals structured as separate trades. So, what is that all about?

It was due to making the cap numbers work. They worked separately, but not together.

Wait, where does it say that? And so he would have to miss 30 games if you're right, right?

nope, he's already missed 52, so 52-41 required to start the payments = 11 games paid for last year. Those payments continue (like Cat Mobley's contract) until the contract runs out, since they can't exclude him now.

:banghead:

How many games did Joel miss last season? The answer is 52. Insurance started paying 80% of his salary with 11 games left in the 2009-2010 season and they will continue to pay his salary until he returns to the court.

Okay, I misunderstood. So insurance would pay 80% of his salary for every game he misses right? It's not the full season?

Yes. 80% of his salary prorated for the number of games he plays in, thus 80% of his per game salary. Once he returns to the court, the insurance goes away.

correct. Insurance pays 80% of his game pay (I think the league rules it on a 1/110 policy, but I'm not positive) from his 42nd game out (which was game 72 last year) until he gets into a game again. Then the clock stops, and the team starts paying his way. But if he came back early and blew out his knee again on his 1st game back, insurance covers every game starting with the next one until he plays in another game or his contract runs out.

EDIT: Joel was insured for the final 11 games of the season (he missed 52 in total) and will continue to be insured until he returns to the court.

My bad I wasn't understanding what you were saying. This makes JPEC even more tempting for NOH. I really feel only NYK has better packages to offer and I think our BIG GUN that I propsed trumps it especially when you add picks, cash, draft rights and Euros.

Okay, so Joel's salary is $7.405 million. Let's say a safe number of games he misses is 30. At 90K per game, he'll be paid $2.7k, and if insurance pays 80%, the total amount they save is $2167, thus Joel's actually salary would be $5.3 million.

Is it really that big of a deal maker? :/

You'll have to excuse me everyone I have to retire to the men's room with some tissues and hand lotion. This is getting intense.

I just creamed myself even if I know it's not going to happen.

Why not? Assuming no evil doing by Stern we trump everyone without even throwing out Oden, LMA or Roy or including a third team. Seriously, aside from Stern tampering only NYK has a comparable package and I feel we can easily trump it.
