The Blazers have 6 days to come to terms with the Lakers on a sign and trade; that would allow them to sign another player with the full MLE.
He got even less than what I thought he'd get. This makes the Kaman signing that much worse. Four years is nothing for a 26 year-old, who will be just entering his prime at the tail end of his contract.Hawes might get 8, he won't get over 10 and if we don't have the cap space, work out a sign and trade.
Hawes got incentives in a major market I'm thinking. They offered something Portland couldn't match. I have no doubt the Blazers knew this before offering a deal to KamanHe got even less than what I thought he'd get. This makes the Kaman signing that much worse. Agreed. We keep our 2015 flexibility with the Kaman signing but nothing is promised tomorrow. Everyone out West is getting better and we're kind of standing pat. Also, next year's FA crop just isn't that strong.I would have preferred Hawes for 4yr/23M. Hope we did not sign Kaman because he required fewer years.
I don't buy that. He's a Seattle guy, even said he'd love to play in Portland because it's in the NW. He wanted the security of a four-year deal and we probably didn't want to offer that long of a deal? Either way, the Clippers just got a whole lot better.Hawes got incentives in a major market I'm thinking. They offered something Portland couldn't match. You'll probably understand if we go after Marc Gasol next summer.I would have preferred Hawes for 4yr/23M. Hope we did not sign Kaman because he required fewer years.

RoLo + Hawes for the foreseeable future >>>> a chance at getting Marc Gasol + having no real backup centerYou'll probably understand if we go after Marc Gasol next summer.

That's a good idea. Not sure if LA would want to help us out though. Do they really want any of our scrubs?
So how many post dissing other posters for not being realistic about not liking the Kaman signing because that is all the Blazers could afford. People on this board act they know so much and judge others based on what they think are facts. We are all just trying to figure this shit out, but just because some don't like the Kaman signing doesn't mean they don't see reality. Bad signings happen all the time with every organization.
the Kaman signing very well may be a bad signing or I could be flat out wrong, but I and others can analyze a Blazer move and "see reality" just as much as the homers who justify each and every move by the Blazers

Pelicans added Asik, could easily be players for a playoff berthWho out west has gotten stronger, outside of draft picks?
Minnesota? not really.
OKC? They lost a guy.
Lakers? Nope.
Warriors? Livingston isn't a difference maker really.
Dallas? not sure they got better.
Spurs? already better.
Rockets? traded Asik, probably won't get Anthony.
Kings? Meh.
Grizzlies? Nothing much.
New Orleans?
Denver? Eh..
How did "everyone out west" get better?
I like you treaty, but no.![]()
You act like free agency is done. Silly.
Who was the last Laker to become a Blazer?
I can't thing of any unless I go all the way back to Leroy Ellis.
Pelicans added Asik, could easily be players for a playoff berth
Clippers for one got better today
Rockets could land Melo/Bosh which would make them better
Livingston is just what the Warriors needed, they struggled mightily without a true backup for Curry once Jack left in 2013
Memphis won't be that injury prone this season as they were in 2014
Both OKC and SA haven't used their MLE yet and they were each considerably better than us last year
Point being: The West is fucking loaded and if you're not adding assets some other team will pass you by.

Kermit Washington
I think people are overstating how good Spencer is.
Stats vs Kaman (not that I'm a huge fan of Dober)
PPG 13.5 (in 30 minutes) vs 10.5 (in 19 minutes).
RPG 7.7 vs 6
Blocks: 1 vs 1
PER was a wash too.
Sure, Spencer is a better 3 point threat, but that's not what the team should get. They need someone who is actually in the paint once in a while.
Also, if you go per 36's, Kaman is 20-11 whereas the grass is greener, er I mean, Spencer, he was 16 and 9. But hey, Spencer was the Harrison "Fucking" Barnes of this off season.
@WojYahooNBA: Hawes passed on Blazers MLE offer Thursday, sources say. Chose between Clippers MLE and Suns space. Blazers moved on, signing Chris Kaman.I would have preferred Hawes for 4yr/23M. Hope we did not sign Kaman because he required fewer years.
