I mean, good for him I guess, but they certainly aren't signing him because of his zero minutes of Summer League play:

Huh?50% of Salaun's skull looks like LaMelo's. I'm impressed by his energy but he's certainly a little light on skill.
That is his future role on the team, so best get used to it.
In today’s NBA it’s much easier to clear the paint if your center is a good 3 point shooter. Plus they usually have the most open shot because centers don’t like guarding someone out to the 3 pt line. His shot looks good but a bit slow dare I say slow like Meyers Leonard’s shot (not as bad). Looks like he was a very good pick at 7
the team is in full tank mode already. To quote Pete Pranica, "I love it!"Clingan hit more 3 pointers (2), then 8 other Blazers combined. (0-27 from the usual suspects)
Yep as you alluded to centers are usually open out there so his slow release does not concern me. He just needs to be a threat to shoot them, not a high volume 3-point shooter.
I've seen Pat Connaughton and Allen Crabbe become rotational pieces after looking awful in SL.
Don't want to make too rash judgements on Murray but it's not looking great
batum yes, that's why i did not include him. pat and AC sucked in year 2, like kristhere is the Batum example too
however, weren't all those their 1st SL's before their rookie seasons?
Portland was over the luxury tax. They had to sell the picks. It's not Cronin's fault. This is the easy selling point.
What's closer to reality, is the Blazers GM went nuts with Jody's credit card, and put the team into the luxury tax. Perhaps an attempt to build a more competitive Blazers, with the stealth tank on standby after trade deadline.
Since we're not in the Front Office, fans have no clue what offers were available to duck the tax. Backup plan delta tango 'sell the picks' was initiated. A few other teams sold their picks. Portland simply jumped aboard the cash consideration train.
Now, we should all zip it, enjoy the new 7'2" monster rookie, and quit the snarky attitudes. GO BLAZERS !
7’3”.
normally I wouldn’t be that guy, but I’ve seen it first hand and it’s legimately at least 7’3” currently (few inches taller than Sarr who is supposedly 7’1”
Officially measured at the combine at 7’ 1 3/4” without shoes, which means 7’3” ish in shoes7’3”.

not many guys are that tall w/o shoes. I hope he keeps his weight at that level or lower
Sarr was 6'11.75; Zach Edey was 7'3.75 and 299

def excited to see him vs Edey.
I don't believe that theory is proven. Opposing C's did not chase Nurkic out to the 3 point line the season he shot the most three's. They left him open and they let him shoot them. Now, part of that might have been defenses were a lot more concerned about Dame when he was on the floor with Nurkic, Still, defenses didn't really flex toward Nurkic at the arc, at least not that I saw, so I'm skeptical there will be opposing bigs leaving the paint regularly if Clingan is lurking 20-25' from the rim
You say the theory is not proven but you gave a great example of it being true?
Regardless it sure seems to be true.
I don't think it was about money. I think they liked the guys they had too much and so there was no roster room.. I understand why Cronin would want to wait on his Grant and Anf trades so he can get a better deal, but it would have been better to shake up the roster some before the draft. Also they may be proven wrong thinking Murray and Banton are better than some second round picks. Who know though, they probably felt like they hadn't had time to evaluate them properly yet. Time will tell. This leads me to think about Scoot not playing. I think they really do plan on trading Anf before season starts and so they need a backup PG. Maybe the idea was to give these guys on the summer team lots of playing time to see if they had it or not. Unfortunately looks like they don't.They should let Mike do his job and draft more instead of saving money for Jody.
That's how I also felt a lot of the time. I felt sorry for Clingan having to play with this group. You can read my response to Americon just above as to one possible reason they didn't play Scoot. Also they were possibly hoping that Rupert and Murray could be more playmakers. But they definitely could have been coached better; looks as if they focused on defense mostly.Except for Clingan, that has to be the worst Summer League performance I've ever seen. The Blazers offense was 100 percent out of control rat ball. No team rhythm, or individual rhythm, whatsoever. I think there's a good chance it would have been completely different had the Blazers bothered to put a decent fucking point guard on the team. How the hell could they expect to run an offense without a point guard? How the hell do they expect any player in Summer League to be effective without a point guard who can set up an offense and help set up teammates for success? How the hell do they expect to evaluate any of the players they brought in under these circumstances? What was even the point of fielding a Summer League team at all if they were just going to trot out the garbage they put on the floor? And who the fuck was coaching that mess? Did that team even practice together? What a pointless waste of time.
Sorry. We don't draft shooters.Matt Morgan with 36 points on 11-11 shooting. Is that good?
Clingan's teammate might've been a nice investment:Sorry. We don't draft shooters.
