BLAZERS @ SUNS - GAME THREAD - 10/30/13 SEASON OPENER - 7 PM - KGW

I'm ready to either ban Carilto or Kingspeed.

Flipping coin now.....

Good thing I'm not a mod . . . I would ban everyone who posted in this thread. Then I would go to the OT forum and delete it. Somehow I don't think that would make me feel better, but it couldn't hurt.

So maybe Aldridge is our Durant and Lillard is our Westbrook. All we need is defense and a competent bench and we're an elite team?

I thought the consensus was that the Blazers were destined to start out slow this season for obvious reasons. What changed?

Tough loss to watch, but it's only 1 game out of 82. Time to regroup and pick up the pace early in the game at Denver. The thing I noticed was the lack of any urgency in the tempo early in the game. Walking the ball up the court, allowing the defense to set, just bad coaching, IMO. Hopefully Lillard is allowed to push pace early at Denver.

The team didn't look prepared to take an early onslaught from a bunch of hustling scrubs, which is what PHX is and will be all season.

Except for Dragic, Portland the better team man for man.
But The Suns play better ball. Give the win to Rookie Coach Jeff Hornacek, he has his team ready to play ball, a bit Sloan like.

In some better news, the Winter Hawks are winning tonight.

I'm not posting in the next game thread. There were 3 posters that made this thread shit. Complaints and bitching are fine. Purposely trolling was just a fucking joke.

that was a fucking embarrassment. pick and roll defense was AWFUL. mo Williams should have been benched. I feel like robinson should have played more. robin lopez.....what.the.fuck.was.that? I could get 2 boards and 3 points in 33 minutes against that team if I was 7'1 actually I bet most of us could double that. I wont be able to sleep tonight after that shit....EMBARRASSING.

Our defense doesn't look like it's improved. Suns were killing us with the pick and roll. How many times did we see their point guard going against our big man, getting a wide open jumper? We are going to need to work on this... A LOT!

Oh c'mon. It's always like this.

New thing same as the old thing.

Phoenix has even more new faces than Portland does. How come it didn't effect them?

This is the NBA. The reason is......because they were at home. Opening night. Phoenix came out and played well. Same as the Lakers did last night and are now down 30 one night later on the road. Fuck how many years does this happen especially on opening night? Every fucking year.

I agree with those that think the defense was the biggest problem for the Blazers. If the defense is going to allow this many easy basket and points in the paint to the Suns, it's going to be a long season.

A lot of that has to do with being behind big early and trying to play catch up ball by taking 3's and hurrying the offense.

I call BS on this one. It's Stott's philosophy. Live by the 3, die by the 3.... It doesn't make a bit of difference what the score is. Blazers are going to be shooting a LOT of 3s.

There were too many times when someone had a lane to the basket & gave the ball up for a kick out. Most of the time, the pass was off allowing Sun's D to recover.

I also think there was too much "cute" basketball being played by the Blazers. Too many hook shot passes, behind the back flips, and such. Please just play fundamental basketball. Go with the clean basic play.

both teams played hard

barfo

That's actually a good take. We went away from what we did in pre-season. We played muscle ball and tried to play finesse with Phoenix

Both fair observations. I would add that Ole' seems to have failed rather miserably in giving Stotts a deeper roster to work with.
