I'm excited about the minutes opportunity for Swanigan now that Vonleh is gone and Collins is struggling.

You know, i COMPLETELY forgot about Swanigan's existence. I think i need to google what's his first name now lol.:biglaugh:

Is it Noah Swanigan? Jalen Swanigan?
Boy, i hope Calabro will get some reps on this.

I believe his full name is Swanny McSwanigan.

It is awesome to get under the LT threshold. Some of us knew this was coming - all you had to do was look at the salary situation.

It wasn’t about money, it was about avoiding the ugly taxpayer penalties.

I had high hopes for Noah, but he never stepped it up and took the position or even a backup position. His minutes always seemed to be for development purposes. I don’t know if Stotts designed any plays for him.

I don’t see how making a deal for the sake of making a deal, while staying over the LT, makes any sense at all. Unless we’re getting a shot at the first pick in the draft and a player who steps into the starting lineup for us. That wasn’t happening.

If we got the guys from Utah that the Cavs did, we’re definitely not serious enough contenders.

Good move, Neil. Predictable and by the book.

This is my least favorite cliche. This team needs everything. If you are the Warriors or Rockets, you can rest on your laurels. This team has bad habits and lack of focus on both ends of the floor. Not making a roster move ensure that this season will end with the same whimper Olshay teams always do.

Ugh. I don't disagree, but still... ugh. The best thing out of this trade is the money angle. Hopefully it frees us up down the road to make real moves. It's just boring and a bit disheartening knowing that we're basically throwing in the towel for the foreseeable future.

Also, it's not like we're losing out on a lot in Vonleh. He's bad and not showing signs of improving much. It's telling that the best we could get in return is an unathletic 32 year old European stiff who will never see the NBA. Not even a second round pick? Just ugh. This team as constructed is screwed if certain players don't pull their heads out of their asses.

So trading CJ for cap space would be a good move?

We do need help at both F positions, but making a move for the sake of it still makes no sense to me. Because of the example given.

I don’t see a good deal Neil could have made, given who was rumored available.

Hey remember that 12 million dollar exception we have and wont use consider vonlehs and even more useless asset than that.
Yeah, I get that too ;)

But at least it's on the table. Those trade exceptions are at least as valuable as Aaron Afflalo was when we traded for him. So there's that :rolleyes3:

If it's true that teams are asking about Dame and CJ.... then I have a feeling they think this could be the Lamarcus situation all over again.

Vonleh probably wasn't getting another contract from the Blazers anyway, as he hadn't shown anything beyond career journeyman talent. I'm fine with starting the Rakovic era.

I remember a 22 year old getting 18 rebounds in a game this year in one of his few opportunities with extended minutes, but okay.

I'd take that bet.
I highly doubt either one gets used. 75%-90% of the TPE's league wide never get used.
I think this year will be different. Imagine, I don't know, an RFA target getting an offer of 11M and using the TPE (since we can't go above taxpayer MLE of 5.4M or so) to do an S&T with a future draft pick or something.

What a joke. Maybe people have short memories, but Vonleh had been given every opportunity to succeed and show that he is NBA calibre in more than just rebounding.

This guy started 56/78 games in his first year with the Blazers. 41/74 in his second year, and 12/33 in his third. Despite this, never has he even cracked 10 points per 36 minutes. Now you can say, the Blazers never ran any plays for him, and you would be right, but for someone who is supposed to be a good rebounder, he couldn't at least bring himself above 10 points per 36 through offensive rebounding? Ed Davis, who has almost no offensive game to think of, gets himself more opportunities by simply working harder than the other team.

It's not enough to simply be Reggie Evans, and Noah is Reggie Evans, except even Reggie Evans is better at the one skill that makes Noah an NBA player: rebounding.

I'm sure Noah will stick around in the league for awhile, as a fringe 10th man in some random team's rotation. But there's no need to worry that we actually lost a player that can actually make an impact.

Going forward it all depends on cost. If this Vonleh-type player (not specifically him but that 10th man type) is only making 3 MIL a year on his next contract then that does have value. You have to fill out your team with specialists towards the end of the bench and with favorable contracts. I don't think Vonleh gets much more than that number this year but some of that depends on what he does for these last 30 or so games.

Like I said, he'll probably stick around the league. But we didn't really lose anything of value.

Could this be the shocking end to the all the speculation in threads created about "the Deadline"? That Neil poll should be re issued. I'll bet 99% want him out. The one percent may be his family disguised as posters.latest-2.jpg

Fixed your post for you. Thanks for finding and posting the video.
Well...He can cut to the basket and make a simple layup without mistake. A needed asset in the NBA. Portland is acquiring rights to his contract. Watch Neil trade him outright along with Swanigan and Layman.
