When you want a first round pick just consider anything else a first round pick and it’s like a first round pick, even if it’s not a first round pick. After all, is an actual First round pick any better than an imaginary first round pick? With an actual first round pick, you have to draft a particular player with it. But with an imaginary first round pick, you could draft anybody - even the player you would draft with an actual first round pick.I dreamed of a first for Simmons. We got that in Jrue, that’s a first whatever we do.
Your post is just as depressing lol.I tried to make it all the way through this thread but it's just too depressing.
Cronin is an absolute terrible GM. He studied Sam Presti very closely, it seems, and does the exact fucking opposite of how OKC has built a good team.
If we wanted to move Simons, we would have been better off cutting him, eating this year's salary, and then not giving so much money to a 36 year-old who hasn't played in 70 games in a regular season since 2017-18.
I don't know why I'm surprised that Cronin and the Blazers made this kind of shit move, given Cronin's history and management's willingness to extend Cronin in spite of his utter lack of success on the court and in rebuilding the roster.
Yeah I can’t think a couple second round picks are a deal breaker. If you lose sleep over random ass 2nd round picks, that’s on you.
This is done on big news threads because we want everyone to be able to see them right?I merged the two threads, HCP's thread was first but I used the other thread's title.
Maybe Joe thinks that he can get more for Holiday at the trade deadline?Everyone praying we are rerouting Holiday better come to reality quick. He's here to stay.
This was a chess move by Joe. He sent Simons to Boston to have a great scoring year with Tatum out, get extended, then sabotage their D and help ensure that their 2029 1RP is in the lotto.Holiday is the premier defensive guard of the last decade. Simons is the complete opposite. Watching Simons defend his opponent was a sight to behold.
Simons is/was a glorified bucket getter off the bench.
I'm just hoping one of Ayton Grant is dealt. This could save the day. This is the first report of the deal not being consummated until the new league year, which makes the 24-25 salaries moot for matching purposes as they will be using the 25-26 salaries, as well as any potential players and picks being added. This is why I kept saying if the Ant/Jrue trade is done, it sucks in m estimation. If it is still open to add, say, Sacramento, that could change the entire perspective of the deal. Hopefully another team is in need of an aging PG due $104.4 mil over three seasons. Fingers crossed.
I wouldn't be shocked if the Blazers pay tax - the bill is due a year from July and there'll be different owners then.ok...hard capped at the first apron. Blazers will be 17M below the 1st apron. But does anybody think Portland was going to pay tax next season>
If the Blazers stay out of the luxury tax the hard cap is irrelevant. The hard cap is $5 million more than the luxury tax limit.Very unexpected....not trading Simons, but the return. Simons has a negative value? Jrue doesn't make sense. While he is one of the leagues best defenders and would not doubt help us there, he's too old and too expensive. He's basically going to retire after this contract. Also, when we traded for him in the Dame trade, he didn't want to come here and was very glad to be dealt to Boston. Suddenly, Boston decides to trade him back to us? And takes two picks, albeit seconds, to boot? Ugh.
There has to be more. I don't see this being done. More trades must be coming. The trade will likely be expanded or another one will come behind it quickly to relieve us from being hard capped. No way in hell we are paying taxes.
Best to Anfernee. Hope he does well in Boston. I see they are pivoting a bit with Tatum out next season.
Id certainly call Dallas Milwaukee Minnesota Sacramento. Any of them have trouble at the draft or free agency and I could see them overpaying for Jrue.I'm thinking these are the potential teams that would be interested in Holiday. Any interesting assets we could get back?
Dallas
Houston
Miami
Milwaukee
Minnesota
Phoenix
Sacramento
Pretty different then - was immediately reported the Blazers and Holiday were working on a trade. It's been reported yesterday the Blazers are keeping Holiday.Just like last time?
I expect they're giving him the keys to car this year. Jrue is as solid a person as there is in the league and will still get 30 MPG at age 35. He does all the little vet things that lead to wins that hopefully the youngins will be picking up on.I don't think they are trading Scoot.
So does Ant or Payton Pritchard start next year?

I think the Blazers did this deal with the idea to hold onto Jrue though.
For next season on the court I really like the deal.
In 2028 I'm going to hate it.
Jrue makes more sense as a complementary piece with the starters and Scoot coming in to lead the bench offense. If we’re keeping him our defense is nasty. Looking at the championship game two teams built on defense. Assuming Jrue comes off the bench, our 2nd string is nasty defensively Jrue, Clingan, Thybulle and Grant (complain about him but defensively he’s solid). Combine that with Camara and Deni we are an elite defensive team. Obviously not ready to compete for a championship but should put us in contention as playoff team next year
Sharpe better get his defense in line because right now he’s the guy teams will be attacking.
