Don’t Sabonis and KAT have similar deals that both end in 27-28 season?

Who would you rather pair with Clingan?
KAT but it's close. I was dead set against Sabonis until this Jrue move. Now a player like one of those two makes sense.

ok...hard capped at the first apron. Blazers will be 17M below the 1st apron. But does anybody think Portland was going to pay tax next season>
Yeah, I wouldn't be worried about it at all. But, I suppose it is a limitation currently

Very unexpected....not trading Simons, but the return. Simons has a negative value? Jrue doesn't make sense. While he is one of the leagues best defenders and would not doubt help us there, he's too old and too expensive. He's basically going to retire after this contract. Also, when we traded for him in the Dame trade, he didn't want to come here and was very glad to be dealt to Boston. Suddenly, Boston decides to trade him back to us? And takes two picks, albeit seconds, to boot? Ugh.

There has to be more. I don't see this being done. More trades must be coming. The trade will likely be expanded or another one will come behind it quickly to relieve us from being hard capped. No way in hell we are paying taxes.

Best to Anfernee. Hope he does well in Boston. I see they are pivoting a bit with Tatum out next season.

The thing about there being no way in hell that we're paying taxes is that it makes both aprons (hard caps) irrelevant because they're both over the tax threshold.

Feel like I've come full circle on this deal. Although I think I've done that with so many trades we've made. WTF to, ok, I can see it. I'd assume we're keeping him; if there was extra value, clearly Boston would have just gotten that. But who knows. His salary matching can get us to Sabonis, and Ant could not. But that seems really, really unlikely. Because then we have 5 Cs that can't play PF on the roster. I, again, feel like this is our "Houston" move to accelerate the growth of our youth by playing alongside competent vets

I think there will be another move that sends Deandre out... possibly with Matisse and pick 11 for a C that has shown they can be a number one scorer on a playoff team. I think I read a rumor that we were pursuing KAT last week... with the addition of Jrue and subtraction of Ant, KAT makes more sense.

Blazers fans on BR seem to love the trade.

I'd rather have Sabonis

Did he say how he came up with that?

BBREF says the Blazers have about 171M in scheduled payroll next season. The tax line is 188-189M. So, Portland is 17-18M below the tax. Jrue makes about 5M more than Simons. The 11th pick will be about 4.5M. So Portland would be 8-9M below the tax with 14 players
They take in more salary than they send out. Therefore they are hard capped at the second apron.

Doubt that the Blazers go into the tax - so it's a non issue

I'm thinking these are the potential teams that would be interested in Holiday. Any interesting assets we could get back?

Dallas
Houston
Miami
Milwaukee
Minnesota
Phoenix
Sacramento

You’re gonna lose….. the team will be moved to Seattle this summer and Jrue will wear a Sonics jersey.

The Blazers moving Seattle might actually be more likely than Jrue not starting!

Are you telling me that Chauncey Billups will favor an aging veteran with a massive contract over a young player who needs minutes to improve? Is that what you’re trying to say?!?!

That... and Billups would rather win games now than build for the next coach (after the new ownership group fires him), so he's going to play the better player.

The only problem I can see we still probably have Holiday starting over Scoot. I just wanted to see Scoot start and see if he is going to be the guy going forward. I can’t see the Blazers not starting Holiday.

I promise you a washed up Jrue who fell off a cliff this past year on Boston will not start on a young team prioritizing development lol

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or what but I don't think anyone trades two second round picks and a guy with 27M left on his deal for a guy with 104M left on his deal and two extra years, to sit the bench and help guys develop, coaches don't make 30-40M. Whether it makes sense or not if Jrue is on this team when the season starts, he's here for the purpose of us winning more games than we would have with Ant.

Did Ant come off the bench when he played? No, he always started when he was in uniform. So my guess is regardless of what this does for Scoot's game, Jrue is either getting flipped to another team and the reports that we're keeping him are to drive up his value or that dude is starting every game he's in uniform.

Jrue was a great player in his prime. Hes a champion and earned his respect.

BUT he fell off alot this past year
