Is Wall a good defender anymore? Met him at Dame's shoe signing a long time ago. Cool dude.

Dame and Simons haven’t had a chance to try and make it work. Simons got progressively better staying in front of his man up until he got injured, and Dame’s stepped up in the playoffs, demanding to take MPJ on defense a lot of the time and had success. Surround them with other guys that are good help defenders.

I’m just going to assume we get Grant and it’s a given he’s the starting SF. He’s already a lanky defender so that’s a plus, but he will probably want to get his on offense as well. So maybe a guy like Sochan to start in the Mo Harkless role (with a high likelihood of far surpassing him) would work well with the starting unit if you choose to pick him. Catch and shoot 3’s, be an instant impact on defense, and get easy dunks and layups off Nurk’s passes while cutting.

Or you can just find another starting PF and stagger Dame and Simons minutes where either Dame or Simons can play with Hart/Daniels/Watford/Jalen Smith second unit. Daniels could be the secondary ball handler in a lineup with Dame, and maybe even the primary PG in a lineup with Simons. So I’d like Daniels here too. It would actually make perfect sense to play Ant as a sixth man, where it’s Dame and Hart starting at PG/SG, with Ant playing as a 30 mpg sixth man at PG/SG and Daniels playing at PG/SF. Jalen Smith just has made sense to me as a backup C. I like him more than Bamba, but Bamba at backup C would be okay too.

Imo, Banchero is going to be a guy that needs the ball to thrive. Nurk doesn’t care much about scoring, but he also likes to at least touch the ball. Dame and Simons already need the ball. Is OG going to cost more than Grant? OG has the potential to be better, sure. But better at what? Scoring? He’s not substantially better than Grant to warrant giving up more than the MIL 1st with Bledoe and #57. Not interested in giving up #7 for OG whatsoever.

I couldn’t tell you tbh. Last time he played, I swear I was in high school. And I graduated high school like 8 years ago. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
 
What we have heard so far is that we will most likely trade the pick and that we are interested in Grant and Anunoby. Any chance we are interested in both? Or would they duplicate? They have about the same wingspan and standing reach. Anunoby weighs about 20 more pounds. Neither of them seem to be a really good rebounder. Looking at MM's favorite indicator, Anunoby has a little higher real BPM than Grant. just below Ingram. Just below him are Kuzma and Barnes. Guys with really good numbers are the two Bridges.
If we did think it was a good idea to get both, how? Blazerkor?
Another question: Grant had a lot higher offensive numbers before he came to Dtroit. His only number that got better by quite a bit was assist %. So this probably means he had more defensive attention there and had to pass a lot more? Interestingly enough, even though his scoring efficiency went way down with Detroit his OBpm and OTRG went up.

Convince Detroit to send Olynyk to TOR in exchange for us sending Bledsoe and 7 to DET. We'd send 36 to TOR as well.

Probably not enough for TOR that way. I dunno--maybe we take Birch off their hands as well, save them a little more money.

I dunno--they get a stretch 5 and save a bunch of money. Maybe convince both teams that they're getting a sweet deal without needing to move the 7.

I bet Olshey could talk 'em into it.

If all they're getting is olynk, Detroit would just keep OG for themselves. That's a terrible return for them.
 
I'd say there is roughly a 10% chance they keep the pick, and a 10% chance they trade it for fair value.

Even other teams’ fans are saying that Portland seems desperate and they’ll likely overpay for whatever they get in a trade.

So a lineup where four guys are going to want to score and the fifth guy pouts when he doesn’t touch the ball once a possession?

I don’t think there is a need for both guys. OG is a better player than Grant, but Grant will cost less and, when he feels like it, does fill our need of a guy that can defend well and is also as tall as the biggest SFs in the league. This is where the “friendship” card would factor into my judgement. If Grant already costs less than OG and his friendship with Dame could lead to him playing well and being happy here, then why not.

Would much rather bring in someone with high potential with #7 or trading down with the same intent than trade it for OG. Mathurin is one name off the top of my head that could contribute right away for our team and is cheaper/younger than OG.

the "others" who think it would require John Wall need to explain how the hell that would happen. He's making 44.3M meaning the Blazers would have to send out 35.5M

it wouldn't even be a legal trade if it was Bledsoe + Hart + Winslow.

It would have to be something like #7 + Bledsoe + Hart + Winslow + Louzada/Johnson for #3 + Wall. As a bonus, this would add about 12M more salary for next season. That would be a dumb trade

NY is all over trying to move up to get Ivey. The issue is, the price is Wall's contract, and New York has no desire (or real ability) to take that on. That is Portland comes in....possibly. There are some cap gymnastics to make it work, and it seems unlikely to work out.

as far as I can tell, the Blazers don't have the room to do gymnastics to take on Wall

it's pretty simple...they'd have to trade Bledsoe + Hart + (one of) Winslow/Little + (one of) Louzada/Brown/Watford in orderm to absorb Wall

now, if the Knicks are willing to dump Randle because of salary issues, he'd fit into Portland's TPE

I would assume Houston doesn't want the long term salary of Randle...

NYK have Obi waiting in the wings - so the need to send Randle out as salary ballast.


Randle has a $23M base salary. It is too big for the TPE. He also has a 'Likely' bonus of $2.3M where he has to make all-star, the playoffs, & 65+ games played.
The only way to get Randle in is to send Bledsoe out

I didn't know about the bonus. But his current salary is 19.8M so that would fit into the TPE

I'd much prefer to send Bledsoe though. I'm inclined to not use half of the big TPE on Burks; No need to add him and his 10M salary into the deal IMO

Yep, and from what I'm seeing/hearing, Randle wants out of there. The relationship just went bad. I think they'd like to get salary relief.

That's why I was thinking salary relief and 7 for Randle and 11. Then 11 and salary relief for Grant.

I honestly don't know how we could add more talent and balance the roster better than that.

And both of those guys are available for packages like that...

In the proposed trade above we are facilitating a NY/HOU trade by taking on a ton of money. I say we keep 7 and let NY/HOU swap firsts.

At the same time, we can likely get someone we like just as much at 11, and gain another future pick, which would be nice.

I don't see any value to Keon... however, I'd like to keep GBIII.
I'd be open to this trade.

I suppose Obi is the cautionary tale for drafting someone like Keegan. Older sophomore, had ridiculous stats at a program where he was forcefed high usage, but never really gained traction in the NBA.

His advanced numbers in the NBA still look decent (except for rebounding). I never really paid much attention to NY so I dunno how much of his lack of raw production has to do with Thibs not playing youngins. His stats have been really good when he as played. Julius Randle also prolly gets in his way.

Except the Knicks want to dump Randle and keep Toppin. He had a brief Ant-like stretch at the end of last season that has them thinking he might be the player they were hoping he was. 20/20/19/35/42 on 55% shooting and 46% from '3'.

I can't read the athletic so I'm wondering if this is a rumor or just speculation?
