Blazers vs Spurs

Have you ever looked back at how shitty the NBA was back then, in terms of offense. Here are the 4 games from that series. I really don't miss these days.

The Blazers average 76 points/game for that series. Just awful.

I remember that shot by Elliott completely broke our spirit.

Don't be surprised when it happens tbh. Dub fans were just as confident last year when Curry burned the Spurs the first two games before Green was switched onto him.

And don't you be surprised if it doesn't. Curry isn't as good as Lillard, plus GS didn't have a post game to counter. We aren't the teams you faced before bro. You are actually facing a team that has a low post threat.

Curry can't get to the rim like Lillard. In the playoffs, I'll take a PG who can get into the paint over one who launches 3s.

Yeah, Curry can't really drive like Dame can, although I wish Dame had his floater.

Agreed, Lillard is a whole other kind of scoring threat. However, Green thrives against players like that. For instance, Monte Ellis was destroying the Spurs this past series when Pop continuously threw Leonard, a terrible PG/short SG defender on him, yet when he switched to Green (whom he used in the regular season to great effect) Ellis completely fell apart, shooting around 30% and stopped dishing out assists. Lillard is a better passer and shooter, so he'll find ways to score, but it won't be anywhere near as efficient as he can be. Unlike Curry, he also isn't a chucker so he may wise up and give it to whoever has a mismatch.

Portland is very much different from GS; they're a much more efficient offense while the Dubs had a much better defense last year with Lee out and this year with the addition of Iggy to offset some of Lee's awful D. Those differences are also why I like the Spurs in 6. Defense wins championships, and as of now the Blazers can't say they're a great defensive team. There's definite room to grow on that end and Stotts is a disciple of RC, the best defensive schemer outside maybe Thibs, but for this series here and now I think it'll be their downfall.

One of my FB friends is down in SA, and she said that they were honking and driving around celebrating the win for FOUR HOURS after the game.

You maybe right bro. Not saying that this will be easy. I'm saying if we do win, it's in 5. If this goes 7, we are toast. And you will not have a chance to close us out in 6. It's either you win 4-1 or in 7. That's it.

Portland has games 5-6. I think it won't get to 6 if we are destined to win this thing.

Really?

NBA.com has Lillard at 7.6 drives per game vs 6.0 for Curry. (Regular season)

Difference was Lillard shot ~40% on his drives while Curry shot ~52%

I wonder what they count as a drive though. Do you count a floater as a drive?

Yes, that would be the floater that was mentioned. Plus, thanks for showing that Lillard drives more than Curry. Also, Lillard was terrible for the first half of the season on drives to the rim.

In the playoffs, Lillard has shot 48 FTs in 6 games. Curry shot 42 FTs in 7 games.

You just proved the point.

This series won't be won by Portland in 5. Portland either wins in 6 or by some miracle sweeps. They won't be able to close out a vet savvy team like the Spurs on the road. I CAN see the Spurs doing it in Portland tho due to the fact they've been there and done that; HCA is a luxury, not a must.

San Antonio loves the Spurs as much as Portland loves the Blazers. Both cities are pretty similar in that regard; fan support has never been an issue.

Plus our team isn't great at protecting home court.

Huh? Blazers won 1 out of 2 to protect home court against Houston. That's why the Blazers won the series. They protected the home court advantage after Houston gave it away.

If LA plays with the spirit and edge he played with earlier in the Houston series. Portland has a terrific chance in winning. They need that from him.

Yeah, we need a split.
Fuck that, bring it back home up 2-0 again!

Seriously though that rockets team was way better than we made them look. A split is highly possible, and if we play our best ball we can get a 2-0 again.

I think this could be a good series for Claver.

I wouldn't mind having an extra wing defender available just in case. They are not playing CJ so why not suit Claver up. What are the rules? Can they change every series?

And if we did win the SA series, and Claver got some action........He could help a little against Durant too. (In small doses)

Blazers aren't winning a G7 in San Antonio; waaaaaay too young for that. Their best bet is to win in 6,

I don't think Portland can win in 6. i think they will have to win game 6....to get to game 7. And if that happens..... sure SA would be heavily favored. But all it would take is for Portland to keep it close into the 4th and have one guy go off from beyond the arc. (Wes, Nic, or that young player with the O on his back)

Mavfan said the same thing the other day (even I believed it), then G7 happened today and the Spurs went apeshit.

Wow, surprised you bothered with the effort tbh.

if we're going to chat hoops, why not base things on what is rather then what we hope? While every fans has dreams, I knew what you were relaying wasn't remotely close to true. I'm sure Tiago will take a few turns at guarding LA, my guess is theres good reason why Pop hasn't given him the lead role you claim he's up for. Its going to be fun

STOMP

Mags got called out on the Spurs forum

Yeah it's pretty interesting to read fan takes from other teams.

Like, magnifier has literally no idea of what he's talking about and it's pretty clear that he hasn't seen a single spurs game outside of the ones played against portland

They should just know Mags is a huge homer and always predicts the Blazers will win. Don't abuse him too much.

Leave that to me.

She's just jealous...

It took a three with .9 seconds left to win on our own floor. In my opinion, that's not very good at winning at home.
