...don't think that will solve everything.

Never said it would. You need to stop assuming what I'm saying.

You though, seem to be saying we should do nothing... Accept it.

I could be wrong tho...

I'm sure you weren't intending to suggest that if a proposal doesn't solve everything then we should just do nothing, but that's how this statement comes off.

Incremental improvement is in fact a good thing.

...umm, no, I didn't say or imply that...if you'll notice, I already offered my suggestion...dviss made his...do you have a solution of your own or are you simply going to pick away at small parts of other people's posts?

...yes, you could be wrong...and you are.

...you're doing the very thing you're accusing me of...you're "assuming" that I meant "we should do nothing" when I clearly said otherwise...should I repost it?

Here; post #117

"...sure, I'd like better cops, better teachers too...but as the saying goes, "garbage in, garbage"....for one thing, if we want want better trained cops/teachers our government could start by actually paying them for what their worth to attract a better cop/teacher, instead of giving out badges to anyone with a criminal justice degree or giving out teachers certificates to just about anyone who wants one.
...in other parts of the world teachers are groomed from the upper part of the class...not here though."

...I didn't create a false argument...I simply made a statement...you seem to be misreading/interpreting things for some reason.

...sure, I'd like better cops, better teachers too...but as the saying goes, "garbage in, garbage"....for one thing, if we want want better trained cops/teachers our government could start by actually paying them for what their worth to attract a better crop/teacher, instead of giving out badges to anyone with a criminal justice degree or giving out teachers certificates to just about anyone who wants one.

You should really look at my arguments on police reform. I've made all these points.

IMO there should be a 4 year Law Enforcement degree.

And yes that's a false argument to say that we should think about our neighborhoods without cops. Why would one ever want to do that?

You seem to be saying that we think all police are bad, which definitely isn't the case. We don't complain about all cops. We complain about the bad ones and we wonder why the so called good ones won't out the bad ones.

You should really look at my arguments on police reform. I've made all these points.

...how/why would I look into something that I don't even know exists and that you have not once mentioned in this thread?

IMO there should be a 4 year Law Enforcement degree.

...fine, if that's the case, for someone to go through 4 years of extensive training and testing, they should expect to be paid accordingly, right?...and I already touched on that very thing earlier.

And yes that's a false argument to say that we should think about our neighborhoods without cops.
...no, once again, just because you choose to label something as a "false argument" does not by default, make it so...it was an observation, so I'm not the one creating an argument.

You seem to be saying that we think all police are bad, which definitely isn't the case. We don't complain about all cops. We complain about the bad ones and we wonder why the so called good ones won't out the bad ones.

..I was told by platypus in this thread that "As the saying goes, a few bad applies spoils the whole bunch." in the eyes of the public or something to that effect...and that's simply not true, IMO...and from there, the convo took a different turn./QUOTE]

Its the No Fun League. The rules had changed and defensive impact has not been the same. I was intense about each and every game. For me these days, it's entertaining, not religion or a protest movement.
The players take knees for political aspects but that passes when the ball is kicked and I don't care about that at all. For many years, I followed the Ravens. I won't boycott. I like the sport too much even though the game has been depleted. College ball was and is always a passion.

...yeah, stampede I said essentially the same thing earlier...the rules changes have "pussified" the game...it's just not the same.

...and there's trying to do the same thing in Baseball.

What part of I've already said don't you understand?

I have always advocated that the men and women who deal with the worst of us should be paid more.

I've always said more training and higher pay.

...exactly how do you propose to do that?...how could you have prevented the Enron scandal for example?...you couldn't have because you couldn't have known.

...people sometimes do stupid things and you simply cannot legislate/regulate that away...sometimes it's crimes of passion or greed or hate and it's always been that way and probably always will.
The Enron scandal was created by more rot than just some accountants. I remember hearing a recording of a couple of executives on the phone talking gleefully about how much pleasure they were going to get out of screwing some mythical little old lady out of her retirement by increasing her heating bill by a whopping amount.

I've always advocated for our Oregon police to have four year college degrees. I rue the day when Portland police changed their policy to requiring only a 2 year degree.

...since you did not quote anyone, it's quite unclear who you are responding to so..if it's me,

... no, not in this thread you haven't, not once.

I did quote you. Not sure why it didn't work. My stance on the police is well known. I'm too lazy to go look into other thread for the posts.

You don't have to have a degree at all. Just a diploma and 16 week police academy. BAM! Badge and a gun.

My beautiful, black, ATHLETIC friend tried to become PPD and could not pass a "psych eval" that had questions about whether or not she would out a fellow officer if they committed a crime.

She passed everything with flying colors except that...

.

...yeah right.

...and yet even though I've only been posting here for a very short time, you still expect me to be aware about something you supposedly said a long time ago?

...sorry, my browser is not equipped with a retroactive time machine.

1st, I don't need to lie.

2nd, the reason why I couldn't quote you is because YOU fucked up on my quote.

3rd I don't expect you to be BUT I did make you aware when I said my stance is well known and you can check.

4th, you do have a time machine. It's not on your browser. It's the little magnifying glass in the upper right corner. You can search all posts there.

Bottom line, I you know now that I support paying our police $100K plus just as long as they come with 4 year degrees. Now are we done arguing about agreeing?

...no one called you a "liar"...but you knew that, right?

2nd, the reason why I couldn't quote you is because YOU fucked up on my quote.

...uhh no, I didn't...but please expound...this ought to be good.

3rd I don't expect you to be BUT I did make you aware when I said my stance is well known and you can check.

...you didn't make that claim until AFTER the fact...but you knew that too, right?

...why should I do YOUR work for you?...YOU were the one who admitted that you "were too lazy too search"

Bottom line, I you know now that I support paying our police $100K plus just as long as they come with 4 year degrees. Now are we done arguing about agreeing?

...that's how this cluster fuck came to be...you see, you always seem to be looking for an "argument" instead of a civil discussion...but hey, I'm through if you are.

I would participate in the OT section if it wasn't for two specific people. I'll let y'all guess who they are.

Your wife and your mother?

barfo
You're thinking of me. And you can throw in my psychiatrist, grandmother and rabbi in the mix. They all said I'd never amount to anything. But I'm going to show them with my witty repartee.

and that is illegal to attack a cop regardless of who is right or wrong. You should have been thrown in the slammer.

You're hilarious.

He was the one committing an illegal search, I defended my property, I had 3 witnesses with me, and he made no report, filed no charges.

Pretty sure he has a permanent scar on his right arm.

You should try applying this logic to the act of kneeling

People can kneel all they want, I just think it makes them appear to be America-hating racists and does nothing but alienate most Americans..

People have the right to flip me the bird, but that doesn't mean I should invite them over for dinner.

You're lucky. In the deep South you would have gotten a night stick across the teeth.
