I'm amazed how quickly Scoot fixed his three point shot. It was fuggly and he drifted to his left. They showed that video of him working on it, then two weeks later he was decent, and now I expect them all to go in. Pretty impressive, I'd say.
I'd like to know who worked with him on it. Kudos to them. And to Billups for seemingly handling his ups and downs so well.

can we please kill this thread or put it on ice until AFTER the season cause I think at least for right now Scoot has done enough to make this thread look silly

I just want to say DAMN! This dude just scored 30 on 15 shots, he went 3 for 7 from three. It's only one game and he'll have games that aren't great but what we've seen from him is that his numbers advanced and box score, just keep getting better and better.

This is kind of why it's still going. It's silly. I'm enjoying the fun with it.

I was at the game last night and I will say Scoot was easily a step faster than anyone else on the court. The Thugget players kept yelling at help defenders to get to their positions and nothing was working.

Also, there were several times where Scoot was switched on Jokic, and Jokic tried to back him off his spot. Everyone else was blown back two feet by Joker's a**, but Scoot's lower body is so strong, he didn't move. Impressive.

I had several Thugget fans remark to about how good we were going to be in a few years, and that Scoot and Ant were unstoppable.

Just keeping those expectations realistic on here day in and day out is my mission. The same dudes that had this kid headed to the HOF before the season started.... after last night are HYPED. Dudes on here wanting to kick him out of the league after a rough patch.....it's comical. Give these players time to adjust.

Sebastian Telfair’s career-high points was 30. Came in his fifth season at age-23.

Scoot’s reached 30 or more twice. He’s already twice as good as Sebas.

Thats awesome. Thanks for sharing.

It’ll click eventually and he’ll make a lot of us eat crow.

However….

He’s been extremely disappointing. His advanced stats are nearly identical to rookie Armon Johnson. Putrid.

This summer it’s clear that he needs to primarily work on his jumper. This will open up his game so
much.

Can you think of any other PGs that have ever turned it around after a rough first season?

While I don't know if they necessarily qualify as "rough" first seasons (they were definitely not on par with the rest of their careers) and I'm not saying that Scoot doesn't have massive holes in his game, but Steve Nash (who was 22), John Stockton (who was 22) and Terry Porter (who was 22) are just 3 off the top of my head. You could also include Tony Parker in that list, same with Lonzo Ball and Ricky Rubio.

Each one averaged fewer ppg than Scoot, and outside of Parker, all were older and had far more college experience coming the league (and Tony had been playing pro ball in France, iirc, for years).

Scoot needs to spend this off season working on his shot (both inside the paint and 18 feet and out) and his footwork though.

He's 20 now, and I'm beginning to have my doubts. The Dante Exum 10-years-to-have-a-decent-season plan doesn't really work for me.

Careful. I pointed this stuff out the previous game and was told my concerns weren't valid by multiple posters.

I could live with the jumper being a problem if he was sharper in his passing and court-sense. For every great pass he throws, two or three seem to get deflected or don't arrive in a good spot for the recipient.

We knew the shot was going to be a work in progress. I expected a guy who'd played this much basketball, even at a young age, to be better with the basketball and to have a better game IQ than he's shown so far.

I think PPG is a misleading gauge to use because of the wide variance in playing time and usage

Scoot is averaging 12.6 points on 11.6 shots. With the same shot attempts as Scoot, Nash would have averaged 14.2; Stockton 15.8; Porter 14.5

those are better marks but they aren't dramatically better. I don't think Scoot will be a bust; that seems way too pessimistic at this point. Yeah, it's been a fairly dismal season for the rookie that kind of pushed Dame out of the door and was supposedly a #1 pick in any normal draft. And I'm not sure there are a lot of all-star games in Scoot's future. But he's just getting started. Now, a year from now if he hasn't improved much, it might be time to worry

one issue that may be really hard to solve though is Ant and Scoot on the floor together. It's pretty ugly....like putting a rat and a snake in a shoe box

I honestly think missing a few weeks two different times this season and another month in the off season after a few minutes in a SL game have stunted his progress. I'm not saying he'd be worlds better than what we're seeing and that is what we were sold early on when Joe was saying that he'd help Dame contend. I just think if he had been healthy the whole season maybe missing just a game or two here or there, then he'd be further along or if he wasn't I'd be even more concerned.

Better question is whether anyone can think of any other PGs that have ever turned it around (relatively quickly) after as rough a first season as Scoot has had. I haven't looked, so I can't really say.
