Camby to Portland?

I hope we aren't giving up Juwan Howard -- I think he does more for us this year than Tyrus Thomas. We would be even thinner in the front court than we are now.

How so? We would be swapping Howard for a much more productive Thomas. Juwan's off-court and leadership contributions are sizable, but they wouldn't necessarily outweight what Thomas could give them on the basketball court.

UPDATE FROM MARC STEIN VIA TWITTER.... Three-way trade possibility in @chadfordinsider piece: Hinrich to LAL; Outlaw/Blake/Juwan Howard/Morrison to CHI; Ty Thomas/Vujacic to POR
about 1 hour ago from UberTwitter

I would hate KP if he made that trade.

But at least with Juwan we'd have a "backup"... sort of...

The odds of Howard being released and then Portland re-signing him would seem substantial.

We would be swapping Howard + Outlaw for Tyrus Thomas.

Edit: Oh and Tyrus Thomas is thinner than Juwan Howard... :P

The way I see it, I'd rather have Camby than doing anything to help the Lakers.

No matter what happens, I want no part of a deal with the Lakers that helps them out in the slightest... especially if it involves Sasha.

That might even make Mix happy!

I would do this in a second. No doubt.

Must have confused outlaw with batum, Woj always breaks news though, good source

Funny how the clips got Camby for a second round pick and now they could Outlaw and Blake for a second round pick.

OTOH, I bet Roy would be pissed to see his crew shipped off in one trade.

Good. Better to cut the cord this season, since Portland isn't going anywhere important anyway, so he has the rest of the season and off-season to deal with the trauma. Then he can return next season with a completely rehabbed emotional state.

I wouldn't hate a Camby acquisition, but I'd rather have Thomas. I think Tyrus is underrated due to how much he was overhyped coming out of college. He hasn't lived up to his draft status, but he's a lot better than another Stromile Swift (as he was often compared to by skeptics). He's a very good weak side defensive presence and is actually reasonably productive.

Camby is also productive, but at his age he wouldn't be a contributor for nearly as long and I definitely think his defensive reputation is overrated. He racks up the blocks, generally at the expense of sound team defense. Gambling for blocks is no better than perimeter players gambling for steals. His man defense and pick and roll defense has been very suspect throughout his career.

The question about Thomas is how much are you willing to pay for him after this season? He'll be a restricted free agent, his advanced stats are very good, and I wouldn't be surprised if somebody offers him 5 years/$35 million. Is he worth that? I'm not sure I can answer that right now. Camby either expires and resigns for cheap, gets signed by the Celtics (Haha), or retires. A PER over 18 at his age is hard for me to ignore.

Camby is exactly the type of player Portland needs to target. Hope this gets done.

I'm not really worried about what Camby would do for the Blazers past this season. I seem him as strictly a rental and don't see the Blazers keeping Blake and Outlaw next year anyways. Cunningham's emergence has really facilitated moving Outlaw imo. Smart player and plays tough defense, which is perfect. And next year you can't have Bayless and Blake splitting minutes again. It will be time for Bayless to be an even bigger contributor.

I don't really get picking up Tyrus Thomas. He's dumb.

First trade prop I've heard that I am down wiff.

Do it!

I SAID DO IT!

I am clearly in the minority, but I would rather have Tyrus Thomas than Marcus Camby. Isn't Camby past his expiration date? Thomas is underrated and has a productive future ahead of him. Camby is a stat whore who has never had a positive influence on a team, that is, when he wasn't injured, which has been a lot. Camby is just as much or more of a 'head case' as Thomas. I would prefer to trade our expirings for an upgrade who would likely be resigned next season (Thomas), than to ship them off for a half season rental (Camby). Eh. It's all fun to speculate. I love rumor season!

What role will Thomas have on the team though?

Another young, inconsistent player, who would cost us a fair amount of money to keep for next year and doesn't fill a direct need (C)?

I'm not sure what role Thomas has on the team. Camby at least could start and rebound and block shots (although is defense isn't what it used to be).

From what others are stating, I would agree that the Blazers would also have to take on either Telfair or Thornton - preferably the later - for this deal to happen. The Clips probably want more than just expirings for expirings.

That's why the Blazers may throw in cash...you know the Clippers like money more than talent!

a clipper fans thought from espn boards...

"Yes. Please? If for no other reason than the hilarity that would ensue when Portland had it's 3rd center suffer a season ending injury."

Maybe we could go for a record. :devilwink:

Antonio Harvery doesn't want any trades.

Barrett and Rice aren't there.
