The guy will be never be an offensive force. Good defender? Maybe. But thats it. Im so sick of reading excuse after excuse on this guy. Collin Cowherd said it best last year "he just doesn't have it" when it comes to offense. there's a reason they don't feed him the ball in the post. It is called turnovers. Now saying this on this board is like coming on here and saying i kill kittens. But its the cold hard truth. Oden isn't an offensive threat now and likely never will be.

Im beginning to think the most amusing i will see this season is the excuses for oden when he has bad offensive nights. Im sure i will have a nice top 20 list by April. Seriously, why can guys like Brook Lopez, Marc Gasol have big scoring nights and Oden cant? Oden was the first pick overall wasnt he? Well its shameful at this point. I mean Chuck Freaking Hayes shut him down.

I do hope Oden finds his offensive game but I just dont think it will ever be consistent enough to put him in the top centers. Can you imagine how insulting it would be if gasol on the grizz ever made it at center in the all star game and not oden?

Has Oden worked with any big men like Bynum has with KAJ and D12 has with Ewing?

No.

I won't stop until he is given a real chance to prove himself. 3 shots in one game does not cut it.

Typical uninformed post by Mixup-mixum, . It was already stated in another post, w/ quotes from McMillian, that he wanted Greg to solely focus on the defensive end of the floor, and be the defensive anchor for the team. They said that they weren't going to go to him on offense.

/thread please.

He worked part of the summer with Brian Grant ...

As for the assertion from MIXUM that he's never going to be an offensive force, all we heard about this preseason is how he looked dominant on offense at times and he lead the team in scoring at 14 points in 24 minutes of play.

We get to the regular season and the first thing the team does is freeze him out (for all intents and purposes) so we can run clear outs, isos and the high pick and roll for Roy ... don't get me wrong I love Roy, but until and unless this team makes a concerted effort to get it's bigs some easys off of pick and rolls (and that means more than pick and pops that LMA runs) then they're probably going to be an "also ran" team when it counts in the post season.

Of course there's plenty of time to figure this out between now and April, but I for one am not particularly confident that in either A) Roy's ability/willingness to feed the post (he's our primary ball-handler after all) and B) Nate's ability to create an offense that can get Oden the ball.

... and to think Maxiep told me the Asparagus stalk thread was not a good idea.

Once again, Cheerios with pee.

Will this ever end?

Agreed? I mean, whose really making excuses anyway? The offense doesn't revolve around Oden, and not because he can't score. :dunno:

No, we can't stop making excuses for Oden. We wish we could, but we can't. If you're sick of reading it...don't? :)

:evilfire:What do you mean "We"? I am not with you. :evilfire:

BTW. I'm MORE than ok to admit to the idea that he is terrible on that end if it ever comes to that. The fact is it hasn't. And it would irresponsible for any one to jump to that conclusion.

the excuses for oden are sickening. the guy could have 20 shots and miss 19 and a blazer fan would say " the rim wasnt regulation size that night" and that " oden was focused on defense"
or that nate "wasnt running the right pick n roll"

CMON! Can you guys ever just admit he sucks as of now on offense? Or will it take another 5 turnovers?

He's probably never going to average 20ppg, but we don't need him to.

i have 2 eyes and the only time he is even decent is when he plays vs PFs who start at center.

wait... he was owned by hayes so i guess thats not true either

your #1 pick should avg 20 a game.

another excuse.. please keep them coming.

Please keep reading things that (supposedly) sicken you, you cute little masochist!

dude.... i would love oden to score 20 a night. maybe then we wouldnt live and die by jumpers cause god knows LA will never post up.

now do i see that ever happening??? Um no. I will be happy if oden can get 12 a night at this point. Oden looks like he will be a "nice" defensive player who is hurt a lot with an occasional big offensive night.

He's already shown flashes of the potential for some decent offensive game. Making a grand prophecy at this point is quite foolish.

MIXUM, have you ever given any thought to opening a bait shop?

Hey we make excuses for you, I guess making them for Oden wont hurt...

So we have a potential Defensive Player of the Year on our hands. Sounds good to me.

Bingo. Repped.

lets hope oden shuts me up and dominates nene.

i know i wont hold my breath..... but... lol.... im sure you guys hope i do!

Oden is terrible on offense, and should be fired today so he doesn't interfere with our game tonight. There is no reasonable excuse for his piss poor performance.

You happy now?

Hopefully he will shut you up, nobody else has been able to guard you in the e-paint thus far.

Complete buffoonery, it's not an excuse to point out what's an obvious flaw in our gameplan. Can Oden be an effective offensive player in our current offense? Probably not up to many people's expectations. But that in no way means that he can't be effective in a system that gets him better looks.

An objective observer would note that Oden touches the ball on only about 1/4 of our offensive possessions, which wouldn't be enough for any player to score 20 a night. They'd also note the distinct lack of pick and roll opportunities, which are the bread and butter play of any big mans scoring numbers. Combined with Oden's post ups mostly being of the 'run down the court and turn around to put his ass into his man, back him up to the paint, and then wait for the wing to pass the ball in over the top' variety it's no wonder he's being dealt with, if the defense knows what you're going to do before you do it it's pretty easy to stop you most of the time. He needs to receive the ball in a variety of ways, not only at different positions on the floor, but with the pass coming from different places and with him both stationary and while moving.

Oden isn't being put in a position to succeed offensively, we have quote's from Nate stating as much, and game film that anyone with a set of eyes can break down and see the flaws.

He's probably never going to average 20ppg, but we don't need him to.

I will be quite surprised if he doesn't have at least one season where he averages over 20 ppg.

His post game is definitely not refined but he draws fouls and will, in my opinion, prove himself to be an above-average free throw shooter for a center.

He's also not turning 22 until January. I expect him to become more polished and effective offensively as he matures.

Finally? Nate probably won't be coaching Oden forever, and teams that aren't in the bottom of the league in terms of Pace get more scoring opportunities.

I stopped reading your post after the first sentence. Oden has shown he can score efficiently when given the opportunity. If he played a team that didn't have several productive scorers he would be putting up better numbers. He's 21.

I heard Cowherd yesterday about Oden not having "it" and immediately thought of Jermaine O'Neal.

Cowherd's argument was you know whether a player has "it" the first 10 minutes of their career(how stupid that does sound?), and that Oden didn't have it, yet Bynum does. Yeah, stupid statement. Bynum was nothing his rookie year, just like Jermaine O'Neal. Cowherd said centers don't turn into 20ppg scorers in the NBA unless they have "it" yet Jermaine O'Neal certainly did after being a bench player for 4 years with the Blazers and being a regular in Indiana for 2-3 years. It's called actually getting touches instead being forced to play a Joel Przybilla role. So stupid.
