Rumor Chandler Parsons this summer?

I always wonder what the bar is for something to be a 'rumor'.

Other than the fact that (1) Parsons would be an upgrade and fits in Stotts' system, (2) Parsons wants the max, and (3) Portland has the money, on what other than pure speculation does the original author conclude Portland is on the list of suitors?

He says his "sources" "expect" Portland to be on the list. Are his "sources" doing more than the same speculating any one of us might do?

Why do I doubt that's the case?

:dunno:

Sure he would be a catch so give it your all but Florida and Texas are firmly in the drivers seat.

Being on a list of suitors with 8 other teams....hardly counts.

Is winning important to him?

Dallas and Orlando aren't really on the path of winning like we are moving forward.

This reminds me of Zach Lowe's statement that we are attracting the attention of tier b free agents.

Was he talking about Parsons as one of them?

Parsons may figure that if he signs with the Blazers he'll never again be punked by Lillard in the last 0.9 seconds of an NBA playoff series.

In Order:

1. Mavs with the Edge
2. Home town hero
3. Tie: Blazers in it to win it; Miami, because, Miami

You would have to ask him that. Every player is different to a degree. I did say Florida and Texas specifically for a reason though. It isn't limited to those teams.

And while me as a homer would love to say we are winning it is only marginally better than some of the other teams that will want him (unless I can see the future).

Orlando doesn't have anyone close to lillard or McCollum.

Miami has older talent, so maybe?

Dallas has a Crappy future. San Antonio has kawhi Leonard. Houston could sign him, but is harden and Parsons better than lillard, McCollum and parsons?

Parsons and lillard seemed to get along well at team USA practices. Hopefully that relationship blossomed into wanting to play together.

Unless we get Durant its going to be a risk bringing anyone in. Parsons has injury history and some defensive concerns, although he's a better defender than some give him credit for.

I know we should look to improve the team; but at the same time I'm curious what the same group of guys with an extra season under Stotts would do. Aminu became a 34% 3point shooter. Hendo is good off the bench. Crabbe has been a needed 3rd scorer. Plumlee and Davis are a hell of a center duo. Vonleh is good defensively and has offensive flashes.

Would hate to lose someone, have them become an all-star for another team and always wonder what if.

Yeah in theory we can just add Parsons. Also not sure what it would do having a 3rd player who wants to play 30 mpg. Its so effective having Dame/CJ surrounded by high energy guys hustling and nobody entitled to a certain role.

Henderson (and MAYBE Leonard) are the only ones I could see us losing this summer. We can go over the cap to sign Crabbe so even if he gets a ridiculous contract we will match (provided it isn't max - and teams aren't going to do that with the new higher max) after spending our other money. So you are saying Henderson could become an all-star for another team?

Ever though it will probably (definitely?) never happen I think Leonard has more of a chance of being an all-star someday then Henderson does.

If Dallas offers him the 5 year max; which they likely will; I think he just stays put. Players know if the situation becomes bad they can just ask for a trade; then he gets something like $35 million extra. I expect the same from Horford.

Durant is a bit different because he could do the LeBron style 1+1 year deal. Still makes the most sense financially for him to do that in OKC though.

Well its a balancing act of keeping players content with their roles. Cap wise yes we can keep basically everyone. But if we bring in a max salary 33mpg big are Davis/Plumlee/Vonleh all going to be happy? Doubt it. If we bring in a wing are Aminu, Harkless, Crabbe happy splitting backup minutes? Probably not. Neil has a history of players being content with their role and expectations of minutes so I think he may have to get rid of someone.

It might ultimately work out for the best; and probably has the higher expected value so a move is something ultimate we may want to do. There's just a real risk in any change; our moves often have played out different than we've expected. An obvious upgrade on paper could ultimately be worse than the status quo.

Sure someone has to go out. But in my scenario a wing did go out to make room for the new guy. Henderson out and Chandler Parsons in. Some are saying we would resign someone like Henderson if we don't get someone like Chandler Parsons so the minutes are going to have to be juggled just like this year next year anyways.

Yeah maybe that scenario works out great. I think I'd make that move as well.

Right now Hendo is averaging 18mpg; would Parsons expect 33? Thats another 15mpg someone else on the roster is losing. Hendo also sat out 10 games; so 10games we need to cut current players minutes by 33. We already have Harkless not playing, doing his best to be a good trooper but obviously frustrated when he has excellent games followed by a DNP. Vonleh may warrant more minutes. But we need to reduce someones by 15-33?

We want a bit of a minute crunch because normally there are injuries over a season and the minutes become available. This season has been atypical in that regards. But with Parsons or any big minute starter it will add some difficulty to Stotts job.

I'll be interested in what Neil does. I believe he has a much better grasp on this dynamic than all of us.

If we got someone like Chandler Parsons then I think Aminu and Harkless go one more year on this team and then next summer we decide which one we want to keep and trade the other. One already is on a nice value contract and the other probably will also so they will have a lot of value around the league imo.

I think you'd have aminu play a little bit of his time at the 4 in that scenario. At that point it would come down to harkless or Leonard losing minutes
