Your view is myopic. It doesnt take into effect the actual severity of the erosion this country is in. 30 years ago? Hell yeah, you could have conversations. Totally agree.

But thats not NOW. Right before he got shot and killed, Kirk said 5 people who identified as Trans committed mass shootings. In the last 12 years (ish) there have been over 5,500 mass shootings (identified as 4 or more deaths within an event).

To Kirks credit, he held "discussions"... and how did that go? Did it unite anybody? Only the ones that wanted to target a minority.

So what the hell is open and honest dialogue going to do? We need people in positions of movement to be in place so we can protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. But we dont. #1 is getting people in place. Not dialogue. Thats gone. Times have changed. It use to be #1 but its so bad now.

You have hopes and a way youd like it to go... but its not feasible, like I and others have routinely said in this thread. And quite frankly, I dont know if youre ever going to understand it, despite its basic nature. And that is a you problem, ill rest knowing what the reality of this dire situation is. And it fucking sucks all the way around.

It did not start out that way nor have you been this way for a long time. You have very much been very aggressive in many topics of discussion. So I'm sorry, not sorry. Happy to move on and i liked your posts that you made saying it was wrong or whatever, but I'm not apologizing for pointing out facts. I have to own my outbursts here and so do you.

good for you that the vaccine worked, but what about others that had the side affect of the vaccine and died because of it like my friends mom did?

if you didn’t take or have any first hand experience of someone taking invermectin and your repeating what the media said about it your just a pond in their chess board. Not talking to you directly, the other guy.

they made tons of money of the vaccine, ofcourse they wouldn’t want anyone buying cheap invermectin.

No one said the vaccine will prevent you from getting Covid. What WAS said was it will greatly reduce your chance of getting Covid and if you do get it, it's less severe.
Birth control isn't 100%. Should women just kind of hope they don't get pregnant because birth control isn't guaranteed to prevent pregnancy?

Please show studies of people who died from side effects of vaccine. Vast majority of side effects were sore arm. Every med has potential side effects, even aspirin and Tylenol. There are no millions who died of Covid vaccine except on antivax web sites. I have no idea what the health status of your friend's mom. I do know that the first people who got the vaccine were either old or had health problems or both. So some died shortly after getting vaccine because they were old and sick. Antivaxxers then listed everyone who died shortly after getting vaccine as having died from it, even those with well know pre-existing heart conditions or cancer.

Who are "they" who don't want people buying cheap ivermectin? Those who studied it and found no effect? The "they" in this instance are quacks who yes, made money, pushing something known not to work.

Pharmaceutical companies make money from drugs. It's called capitalism. I don't like it. I'm a socialist. That's another argument.

Actual scientists who actually study virology and epidemiology credit Covid vaccine with saving millions of lives. Just like birth control. Even though neither are perfect.

In general, yes and yes. Does that mean i blindly follow?, no. Question, research, find the truth( very hard to do, i know) and discuss things with peers.
I trust many people/things thst still require scrutiny at times because we are not perfect. People make mistakes. People get led astray with miss-info. People make decisions based on personal beliefs without realizing the ramifications it has on others.
Nothing in this current climate should be blindly followed in my opinion.

we know what most political views are of Portland people these days, in Portland and worldwide and IMO it’s why it’s turned into a shithole.

now peeps, don’t get all butt hurt because that’s my view of Portland now, and where America is heading as a whole imo.

People can have their views on Trump, the shooting, Covid and all of that and others can have theirs.

It means id bet my house that there is at minimum 1 legit scientist who has gone the path of belief over discovery. Whether means taking a left instead of a right, with regards to research or omitting certain facts in a study to paint a picture.
It only takes one to provide miss leading info that goes viral and. Ow we have a he said she said thing regarding scientists. But the key is the reaction to this. Many people get angered with the other, instead of leading them to what they know or have learned.
 
There are only a handful of posters demonizing anyone who disagrees with them. And those individuals are completely oblivious to the hypocrisy of their posts.
 
Someone want to debate error in science? I actually know a few things about it.

Remember cold fusion? Two physicists, Pons and Fleischman, announced they had achieved nuclear fusion at room temperature. This is very big deal. Like Nobel Prize big deal. The major obstacle to using fusion as energy source is the tremendous heat and pressure needed for hydrogen to fuse. That and keeping reaction under control so you don't get a hydrogen bomb. A whole new industry could be born. But numerous other physicists tried and no one could replicate their results. They kept saying the others were doing it wrong. Then closer analysis showed errors in their data. There never was any fusion. They could have admitted the error and been object lesson on theorizing ahead of data, but to the end of their day they insisted they were right and everyone else wrong. They were't silenced. They were discredited.

Remember Martian fossils? A rock known to have originated on Mars showed what were thought to be microscopic fossils. Again, huge deal. At press conference, all the photographers were jockeying for position to get a picture of the rock. Talk about being a rock star! I don't know a single scientist or lay person interested in science who didn't want this to be true. Unfortunately, the universe doesn't give a flying fuck what we want. The anomalies in the rock were from chemical reactions. Interesting in themselves, but not fossils. To this day we don't know if there ever was life on Mars. In this case the team admitted their error. They probably get ribbing about it but their lives went on.

Sometimes scientists get a bug up their ass. I respect Linus Pauling as a biologist and peace activist but megadoses of Vitamin C do not prevent or cure the common cold. Again, we wish it were true but the universe doesn't care what we want.

Some are less benign. Like those who insisted people of African descent were less intelligent than those of European descent and any effort to improve education was a waste.
Like Mullis, genuine scientist who went off the rails saying HIV does not cause AIDS, HIV is harmless, people got AIDS from recreational drugs. And insisted on his position no matter how much evidence there was that HIV does cause AIDS. He ended up a pariah in the scientific community. Not in a concentration camp. Not silenced.

Andrew Wakefeld is British ex doctor who said childhood vaccines caused autism. But review of his study showed that not only was it flawed, very small sample, limited follow-up, it was fraudulent. He faked data. He was stripped of medical license. Since then he has traveled the world feted by antivaxxers like brain worm. Far from being silenced, he doesn't shut up.

Of course scientists make mistakes. In fact there isn't a scientist dead or alive who has not make mistakes. But whether error denied, error acknowledged, malice or fraud, in each case it was scientists who uncovered the error/fraud. Scientists with knowledge of how experiments are set up and data analyzed. Not random dude on Facebook. Not someone claiming at third hand someone died of Covid vaccine and therefore it is bad because Joe Rogan said so.

Its likely unfortunate he didn't have anyone trying to help educate him on options/choices in life.
He likely had anger and rage surrounding him without any type of intervention. Anger and rage from those he supported and anger and rage from others who saw who he supported.
i wonder if, instead someone might have reached out to better understand his psyche, they might had met a common ground and this never would have happened with a better understanding of what is going on and how he/we can emotionally cope with it. Instead, he likely had ragers he supported and ragers who didn't support him.
And so we now have what we have.

Certainly. Everyone is welcome to their views. Doesn't mean those views won't be challenged. I know I have had to defend mine quite a bit. Comes with the territory of posting in a forum.

This is why us as people must dialogue amongst ourselves. Instead of “you are an idiot, i saw it/read it! You are harmful to society, you are evil, you are a nazi, you are a libtard,” we need more of “here is what I found on the topic. Have you found something different? Lets compare and analyze together and see which line of info has the most truth to it.”

This is all ive been trying to say. Hatred just creates more hatred. So many smart people here and it saddens me so much so so many want to try to make me out as some bad guy defending bigotry, when im not at all. Im simply saying we, as commoners need to come together and discuss what we are seeing and go over the details so us as a whole are unified on the truth. Echo chambers do not do this. It takes both sides to come together to compare the differences they find in the info, research it and discover which has more validity. He have got to stop reading headlines and then lash out at those who see the headline differently than we do.
Yall make me sad that most of you cant really say, “I agree with some of that, but not this, and here is why…” without taking it personal, trying to paint me as harmful to society for expressing what i believe is the need for more dialogue and less anger.
Many talk about aggressive, angry, hateful words having consequences, yet use very degrading and negative statements to me and each other without a clue, the very behavior many despise is what many are helping spread.

I'm just shaking my head in sadness really that this is not a place to be able to discuss ones opinion of how we can get better without such negative backlash.
The hypocrisy is so astounding…
