No doubt about it. And the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about is that most NBA players don’t want to be coached by a woman.
that's not it. This is a meritocracy and gender has nothing to do with it. I was all on the Becky bandwagon and did not want to believe @calvin natt but all the things he laid out about her deficiencies (that have been now corroborated elsewhere) have nothing to do with her being a woman-- rather her inability to be a proper head coach.

The article even goes as far as to say Jody was ready to hire her and that they all really liked her during the interview. But that gets ignored of course.

Olshey has shot himself in the foot in these press conferences as of late and i think he brings a lot of this criticism on himself with the way he answers questions.

There obviously is a level of nepotism in this field, as there is in any other, (and what Neil did to leak this news to Woj/Shams on Friday was nothing short of a disaster) but i am comfortable that they did a comprehensive interview of touched all their bases here.

Olshey is a fucking moron handling these press conferences like he's the smartest guy in the room. Guy has no EQ. I loathe to see how he handles tomorrows. Who knows, maybe he will surprise me, but my expectations is that he will call the fans and people that are criticizing this move idiots in some roundabout way.

Look at what Indy did. They put Stotts/ Clifford/ Shaw through the ringer of interviews, but reportedly hired Carlisle off a single phone call.

Indy is a funny situation. They looked at Hammon last year. She didn't get a second interview, and she clearly wasn't a close second to Nate Bjorkgren since she didn't even get another look when they fired Nate a year later.

She also interviewed with Milwaukee. Lost to Bud.

it’s why I don’t believe olshey should go beyond a clear statement at his PC tomorrow. Nothing he or Chauncey says will change these idiots minds. Don’t go down that road.
one thing I respect about NO is that he'll flat out tell the media that he's not going to talk about that...he'll nip that in the bud in record time...and he should...there are good things to talk about when it comes to CB and the decision to hire him and that's what you're going to hear the GM gush about...not Clownzano or Haynes clickbait and doom

...Jake clearly doesn't have the inside scoop, but nevertheless, I hope the Pelicans do hire her and continue their stellar path of mediocrity!

There is no winning here. There's no outrage when Hammon doesn't get any of the other numerous jobs she interviews for, but when she gets beat out in Portland the pitchforks come out. When she is the first woman finalist in Portland people criticize the move, saying it's just a publicity stunt. Well, if you think she'd be a good coach, doesn't it make sense for her to make the second round in her interviews? If you think she only made the final round because she was a female aren't you also suggesting her most important quality is her gender? Or does it just matter when it's Portland and not anywhere else?

I'm all for a woman head coach. I think it's inevitable. I no longer think Becky will be the first.

And you're right. Why doesn't this New Orleans reporter push for Hammon in New Orleans? I hear they have an opening...

All of that was also true of Magic Johnson, and yet he was a horrible coach.

Magic was never All-Defense and was a superstar player from Day One but I see your point.

Billups bounced around the league for 5 years and was considered a bust before reaching All-NBA status in Detroit.

One thing I really like about him that I read in a Grantland article that I posted here is that Billups can relate to every player ranging from struggling bench player to All-Stars/All-NBA because his journey to stardom went that full range. I think that’s a huge advantage for him in addition to playing in the league with Dame and CJ as peers.

His NBA career was even injury-riddled his first four years yet with hard work and perseverance he willed himself into a Finals MVP, 5-Time All-Star, and 3x All-NBA. It’s quite amazing looking back at his career in its entirety considering he was the #3 pick overall. I’m quite sure he is no stranger to experiencing humility and overcoming it.

Also lol @ the idea that Olshey is leaking stuff to a bleacher report guy (Fischer is good but still...it’s fucking bleacher report)

If he wanted to run the narrative he would’ve just told Woj.
"Hammon impressed Portland officials and was generally liked among Blazers staffers, sources said. But when Portland reached out for intel from San Antonio figures, the background on Hammon was not nearly as complimentary pertaining to various aspects of day-to-day coaching responsibilities. That sentiment has been echoed by sources around the league."

Sounds like the author verified this stuff outside Portland.

Yeah, I read it as it’s an opinion held by some other teams around the league about her day-to-day coaching ability.

Also, as another poster said, why won’t the Pelican even interview her considering that a Pelican beat reporter was talking shit about the Blazers. Is Gayle Benson anti-women? She’s the only other female owner in the NBA, unless I’m forgetting someone else, and she won’t even give Hammon an interview.

Jeanie Buss would like to have a word with you

Pelicans GM is Trajan Langdon, who worked for the Spurs. He’s probably aware of Hammon’s *alleged* bullshit. Pretty telling she didn’t even get an interview there imo.

Yes, 100%.

No need to be rude.

i apologize for being rude. We may disagree, but you are one of the few here not deserving of such treatment.
With that said, will you please expand on your first hand knowledge of Dames interactions with the women in his life?

I had on 1080 this morning and within a few minutes turned them off as it was a pile on, accusatory, unethical diatribe about how the Blazers are melting down and Billups doesn't deserve the opportunity just because there were other options. Also, being very critical of Dame for zero reason other than he set in on the interview.

Early bets on how Neil Olshey will address Chauncey's accusations tomorrow?

"Look, we're not at liberty to discuss details, but what I will tell you is this. We take accusations of that nature very seriously and we looked into the veracity of those allegations and found that there was no truth to the way people believe things worked out. And I know that we are not the only organization to have done so. Other organizations within the NBA and outside the NBA have done their own investigations and their conclusions matched ours. I have known Chauncey for over 10 years, he's been an upstanding citizen, has had multiple positions within the league and outside of it, is highly respected among his peers, has a beautiful wife and three kids and would not have the kind of support he does if people truly believed he was capable of the things that some people are saying he is. And one more thing is that I can guarantee you guys that Jody Allen would not have signed off on our decision had she believed that he was actually the type of person that did such a thing."

This would be such a Neil thing to say.
