Will do. And it would be my pleasure.

Looking through it, if you want to cover most of your bases, get the Lexus GX in Black (has to be black for Uber SUV per http://uberestimate.com/what-is-uber-suv/ ). You should double check with Uber though. I doubt financially it makes sense to do this though.

Qualifies for:

UberX
UberSELECT
UberSUV
UberXL

I don't know if Portland has the type to use anything more than UberX for most of your rides though. However, I suspect that most Blazers players if they go out will choose UberSUV when requesting a ride.

I have a good friend who drives for both Uber and Lyft. He picked up a couple year old Camry when he started and he says it's been a perfect choice. One thing he said was he was really glad he got one with leather interior instead of cloth because it's easier to keep clean. He gives it a wipe-down with a disinfectant spray.
Leather is very nice, mine is faux so same idea. Costco has also partnered with a company that makes really nice neoprene seat covers that look like they are high end seats not covers. Can be removed and washed, are breathable but absorbent enough to not let any spills soak down. I’m going to get them for my wife’s car.

I love my ‘14 Jetta but the doors are too heavy for Uber. People close them too hard and it’s starting to chip the paint around the rim of the doors.

The new camrys (esp the XSE) also look really fucking nice. They have a white one with a black roof which is sick.

Yeah, the rental I had last week was really sharp looking. It caught my eye immediately. I didn't recognize it as a Camry. As soon as I saw it was, I passed over it and checked the other available cars. I just assumed it wouldn't have enough headroom for me, based on my past experience with Camrys. Nothing else looked all that great, so I sat in the Camry and as soon as I saw that the headroom and legroom were adequate, it made the decision easy.

That's one thing I've always liked about traveling for business. I get to try out a lot of different cars, live with them for a week, or so, and figure out which ones I like for the next time I go shopping for a new car. You can learn a lot more about a car driving it around a major metropolitan area for a week than you can during a 20 minute test drive with a pushy salesman in your ear the whole time.

I wish that would work for me. No matter what, I usually end up with something stupid (read Alfa Romeo).

I went to buy a car for my new driver kid and my wife had to stop me from coming home from an Isuzu Vehicross. (I believe this means that there is an Isuzu Vehicross in my future (*)).

* I am pretty sure Uber would frown upon an Isuzu Vehicross.(**)

** I don't care. I will turn this thread into an Isuzu Vehicross thread.

Bro what is it with you and rice rockets? I’ve got a new Camry as my rental car 3 or 4 times this summer. Plastic pieces of shit is what they are. You are better than this crap.

If you weren't spending so much maintaining your marvel of German engineering, maybe you could afford a newer car?

All limos in Korea are black, usually Hyundais.

That’s just it. I’d rather have an older fine german ride than a new Camry. Just feels so much different sitting in one and driving. Just a much nicer ride, more comfortable experience. Not even close.

There's some hefty maintenance costs that go with a Mercedes or BMW.

I said the Toyota but I gotta oils NOT get a new one for Uber. It’s a waste. Go for a 15/16, save a bunch and then trade it in once you are done with Uber so you get the new car once all the problematic people aren’t scumming it up.

Have barf bags? A car vaccine, tons of whiles, freshness and more. But if someone vomits in your new ride how are you going to feel?

How does it feel sitting in the shop? ;)

So, don't settle for a Camry. There are other Japanese options. A while back, I had an Infiniti Q70 as loaner from the dealership. It has the reliability Japanese cars are famous for, but definitely had the feel of a quality ride. It's not cheap, but neither is a new comparable BMW.

Too much new, buy a used one that's two or three years old and let someone else take the initial depreciation hit.

I’ve seen a few Lexus on the road that I thought were sharp.

I haven't driven a Lexus recently, but all the Infinitis I've driven have been pretty nice. A few years back, the GF had a G35 Coupe with a 6-speed, dual Magnaflow exhaust and Brembo big brake kit on all four corners. It was a lot of fun to drive, but not a practical family car. With rear wheel drive, it also sucked in the snow, so she traded it in for an Infiniti SUV. More practical, but not nearly as sun.

I don't think Nissans/Infinities are nearly as reliable as Honda/Toyota. Its like a tier below for me, much rather have a lexus or acura than an Infiniti.

Drove one of the newer sedans the Q50s as my rental in Nashville a few months ago and I didn't think much of it. The controls weren't very intuitive.

The forum is interesting. Nothing wrong with either the topic or the category of the topic. I found the topic interesting.

There is a section of the forum devoted to basketball, so you can always head over there.

Then, there's the issue of the topic category and title which gives you the option of reading something else. It's not like you're led down the garden path.
I am there

I am going to concur with this assessment. I still get the hots for the old FX35 or FX45 Infiniti. Fun to drive cross-over thing that looks great. Almost bought one a couple of years ago as our long-distance family car, but ended up with a Lexus GX which was nicer (if not as pretty) and can go off-road.

Still Infiniti makes some nice vehicles - and even if the Toyota/Honda offering are more reliable, they are still going to be easier to maintain than most German offering.

Yep - that happens pretty often. But theUber driver can’t see the destination till they pick up but they do see if the ride is over 45minutes. Sometimes I want long rides and sometimes short, it all depends on my strategy to earn the most money that day. Talking to other drivers, seems like I earn quite a bit more because I’m very strategic while most aren’t, and I also am pretty nice, pay attention to driving and can act as a Wine tour guide which all add up to much greater times.

If you can't tell what the destination is, what strategy can you employ, other than your starting point for the day? Or is it a matter of repositioning yourself after you drop off a ride? Just curious as a frequent rider.

You're going to be in the Pacific nw. Get a Subaru legacy or impreza.

So much more fun than any Honda or toyota.

My son and girlfriend picked up a year old Subaru Forester and that sucker is very nice. My youngest daughter bought a new to her a Nissan Rogue and it's also extremely well equipped and very nice.

Here is a solution to the criminal lack of Isuzu Vehicross pictures in this thread.

Fugly. Reminds me of those Hondas and Toyotas that came out several years ago that had the grey plastic cladding on them.

Yep. I just got a 2018 subaru forester for 0% interest well below msrp last month. Love it. It's great for hauling around baby stuff.
