I actually kind of like The Portland Coho, but ya.... Wolverines would be sweet. I was surprised to see them on that list of native species.

I would rather not share my name with another pro team in another sport or a Nationally known college football brad like Michigan

That's very difficult these days to not share a name with either another pro or college team.

I like football and hockey more than baseball. But if I got to choose which top professional team comes to Ptd, I would choose baseball. I really miss going to MLB during the summer, it makes for a cheap (relative to football and hockey) and entertaining day.

Hockey would be cool to have in Portland, but it's season is close to basketball and the tickets would probably be just as expensive.

See, I don't even care about going to the games. I do most of my watching on TV because I can change the channel if I want, or watch multiple things if it's a blowout, etc.

Baseball isn't even interesting until the playoffs. I love playoff baseball.

Portland Storm

Portland Thunder

"The Storm" with menacing dark gray uniforms could be mean

So we can either share a name with a WNBA team or the OKC Durants?

Awesome.

Am I the only one who thinks of the WNBA when I here a name that isn't plural?

I am the same way, football for sure. That is why I started with I enjoy football and hockey more. But if I'm going to attend a sporting event, MLB ranks up there when it comes to bang for your buck. It is a fun way to spend a lazy summer day

The nhl expanding to the south over the northwest never made any sense to me, and with all of those teams doing really badly, it still doesn't make sense why we don't have teams here while they do. Have you ever seen a southerner interested in hockey?

Northerners retire to the south and plenty of them have been migrating as well. That's why you saw teams in Phoenix, Tampa and Miami for retirement communities and Raleigh and Atlanta for workers.

Do what the Mighty Ducks did, go for a team name that will sell merchandise outside of the team's city.

Ice Dogs.

Not a fan of the sport, but I'll take the extra work. What would their name be........

Hockey is fucking awesome. IMO, the best of the four major sports to watch live. Also, the players seem to be pretty down to earth and approachable.

Fuck that. Michigan shares it with Patrick Swayze.

It should be ice and snow related. We're bigfoot country, so what about the Portland Yetis?

How do they decide if a team will represent a city or a state?

The Colorado Avalanche.

The Golden State Warriors.

The Oregon Lumberjacks?

Hell I'll take the Portland Oilers . . . as long as it means Portland is getting a hockey team. (Could you imagine how the name Oilers would go over in the NW, lol)

The Portland Soybeans
The Portland Prius
The Portland Organics
The Portland Hipsters
The Portland Bicycles
The Portland Birkenstocks

I'd be more interested in how fans in Edmonton would feel about it.

If they're going to use a nickname for the state/Portland, I hope it's not one that continues a stereotype about the area (loggers/lumberjacks/crappy weather)

Portland Hoods.

With a big Mt Hood in the logo. Could do some graphics with hoodies or jokes with people being from the ghetto hood.

The Oregon Rain. The Rain melts the ice.

I don't want something rehashed like the Pilots or Lumberjacks or Beavers. Plenty of those already. While the Blackhawks and Winterhawks have no affiliation the logo's are way too similar.

The Oregon Grass would be good! The Hops is a great name too bad Hillsboro already got it.

That's why I thought of the Oilers. I figure if a franchise relocates, Ptd is going to be taking on the name of the franchise and how funny would it be if ti was Edmonton. Of course Edmonton is a storied franchise that will never move, but my point is I don't care what franchise name they get as long as they get a franchise. I thought the Portland Penguins had a nice ring to it and if you believe reports back then, it was a possibility.
