And one flew over the cuckoo's nest.

One of these days, the govt. will decide that being a commie is a mental disorder and they'll round people up.

No thanks.

Yeah thanks this is exactly the movie I was thinking about.

I agree this is true, but it could lead to some bad situations. I hope such a system would only have incentives and no penalties.

The biggest problem is that many of these illnesses can't be "fixed". They have no cure for schizophrenia. So what do you do with them? Lock them up? Wait until they hurt someone? It's like a horrible catch 22. I'm not saying that all these shooters are the same, but it takes a certain kind of fucked up to walk into an elementary school and start shooting little kids.

Regardless, I don't see any way that this doesn't lead to some significant gun control laws. I don't think they'll ever be able to ban guns entirely, but I wouldn't be surprised if they made it so that someone has to wait six months to purchase one. The sad thing about that is that it would only hurt the law abiding citizens. In the case of the Clackamas shooter, it wasn't even his gun. He stole it from a friend. So how would making guns harder to buy stop that scenario from happening again?

I am actually in favor of requiring people to go to a firearm safety course.

Because banning it is going to keep it off of the streets, right. That sure worked out well for drugs, didn't it.

Stop being fucking stupid. Psychotic and fucked up people are going to do fucked up shit, whether they have legal access to it or not.

What a fucking tragedy. R.I.P. I hope that the police put a bullet in this fucker's brain and he didn't have the satisfaction of taking his own life.

So now I'm stupid?

What's up with Canada? They have just as many guns as we do, but almost no problems like this? What is different?

Different culture? Who knows. What I do know is that as time has rolled on, I've become increasingly pessimistic about this country. It feels so often like the center can't hold, like we're losing our sense of civility and decency, devolving into a nation obsessed with inanity, violence and extreme points of view.

I grew up with guns (hunting rifles and shotguns mostly) and I currently own a pistol and rifle, but more and more I wonder about the gun culture we've created for ourselves in this country ... Owning guns was always a rite of passage in my family, it meant that you were "grown up" and that you were no longer a child and a gun was a thing to be respected and treated almost with reverence (if not just a hint of fear). I feel like that respect for weapons and the basic respect for life in this country is less and less common. Increasingly it feels like we have a lot of overgrown juveniles with access to deadly weapons and the inclination to use them. People willing to kill over the smallest slight, too afraid to take an ass whipping in fist fight, looking for permanent solutions to temporary problems.

Certainly there's a mental health aspect to some of these mass slayings and our country is generally pretty bad at either identifying warning signs or quarantining the psychopaths before they do harm, but I feel like that's only part of the problem, I can't quite shake the sense that there's something a little bit rotten in our core.

Look like you're about to buy an Ale, but then paint a picture of it... very mixed... all good, though. Kinda like if Solid Snake was wearing a Neo trenchcoat. This can only turn out awesome.

@BreakingNews: Report: Parent of alleged Connecticut school shooter found dead this morning at a home in New Jersey -

Gun-related violent crime in Virginia has dropped steadily over the past six years as the sale of firearms has soared to a new record, according to an analysis of state crime data with state records of gun sales.

The total number of firearms purchased in Virginia increased 73 percent from 2006 to 2011. When state population increases are factored in, gun purchases per 100,000 Virginians rose 63 percent.

But the total number of gun-related violent crimes fell 24 percent over that period, and when adjusted for population, gun-related offenses dropped more than 27 percent, from 79 crimes per 100,000 in 2006 to 57 crimes in 2011.

Why did they think it was this guy?

Apparently the news had his picture and said he was the shooter, so now people on the internet are giving him a lot of shit from the looks of it.

ABC confirmed it was a guy named Ryan Lanza, from NJ, and his mom was a teacher at the school (and is presumed dead)

Nine facts about guns and mass shootings in the United States.

Mother Jones has tracked and mapped every shooting spree in the last three decades. “Since 1982, there have been at least 61 mass murders carried out with firearms across the country, with the killings unfolding in 30 states from Massachusetts to Hawaii,” they found. And in most cases, the killers had obtained their weapons legally
2. Eleven of the 20 worst mass shootings in the last 50 years took place in the United States.
Time has the full list here. In second place is Finland, with two entries.

I served my country and fired grenade launchers to M60s........ That shit does not belong on our streets!

Fuck off yourself.

Your time in the service would have been better spent trying to wrap your brain around what you were "defending".

Oh wow I feel sorry for that guy. He's going to be dealing with this for a while. I'd be suing Huff Post for that shit.

OSUBlazer, where'd you get his updated page? Nothing on his page or twitter has been updated in 3 days.

I deleted his post

Will you please just shut the fuck up? 27 people are dead, and you're having a flame war while also insulting another poster personally.
