Italy has a whole lot of elderly people and I'm assuming that's why the big numbers.
I was also just watching the cruise ship coming into Oakland and they said that the initial alarm was that they discovered there were people from the previous cruise had been infected and that is what initiated the quarantine of the current passengers...upon testing most of the ship is was confirmed that 21 of the crew had the virus, which I would imagine is how it has spread to the current passengers.
