At least until the Sonics come back, a G-League team in Tacoma makes a lot of sense. They have an arena the Blazers have used before and it's easy to get back and forth.

Eugene also works, assuming they could use Matthew Knight Arena. The airport there is big enough to fly in and out and the commute isn't bad if you have to drive it.

I think even Olympia has a facility that could handle a gleague team.

Also in the winter you don't have the black ice or weather you get further north down here in Eugene....having the largest university in the state is also good for ticket sales. I think Eugene is perfect...Bend doesn't have the population in my view and students turn up in Eugene for sports. I would want the revenue in state if it were my choice and Eugene and Corvalis are within 45 miles of each other so you'd get students from both the big schools. I'm completely biased because I would become a season ticket holder if they move to Eugene...takes me half an hour to drive to Mathew Knight Arena.

He said he did not expect to have a balanced roster at this point...

As a Duck fan, I am not sure I want it in Eugene. I want the local residents to actually go to the U of O men's BB games first. And the students are not going to spend money/time to go to a professional game when they barely go to their school's game. (Although the women's team has a decent following)

Tacoma does not make long-term sense if the Sonics are coming back. Boise to me seems to be a smarter long-term move based on market size. Make this growing city Blazer fans instead of Jazz fans. It is a short flight

NBA expanding g-league to include 18yos as well would help to regain market share regarding prospects as well or something along those lines :dunno:

Put a G-League team in Eugene, and a K league in Corvallis!

i figured i'd put this here since cronin talked about Schmitz, but spotted him randomly in this vid on the front row at Peach Jam. Black shirt across the court midway through.

How exactly would that work since we are only allowed to have 2 players on the team under contract?
Seems like the whole G League is a farm system that all teams have access to.

it could be a way to evaluate multiple players in their specific system without signing them to contracts. Maybe showcase is a better word.

The last two Duck games I went to had great attendance....same with the Emeralds when I went to see them..have to disagree about that but Corvalis has a hard time getting a crowd...not my experience in Eugene...they even turn up for track and field which is not a big draw most places. Boisie is not big enough...it's why they failed before...those gyms echo when you dribble a ball.
I vote Eugene.

i would not underestimate the pettiness of Jody/Bert to avoid putting anything Blazer related in an arena named after Phil's late son

OK, maybe part of it has been Covid-related, but the last few years have been down. Yes, there are some conference games played on the weekend that do well, but weekday games at night have been embarrassing. I watch every game on TV so I know I am right. Plus the topic has been discussed many times on Duck message boards.

The Boise metro has 462, 000 people. It is more than enough for a minor league team.

I vote Cancun!

I might actually go to a game.

Just curious, does anyone know how many of the teams have their G league team in the same town as the big team?

SLC
OKC
WAS
CLE
DET

And a few others who play in the suburbs.

Miami's affiliate in Sioux Falls, SD is by far the most hilarious.

Here's the thing... I love the guy from a personality standpoint, but he also has to be able to deliver. Some of his moves need to pan out before I'm going to be all-in.
Fair enough.
But what you need to understand, is the NBA is 110% about relationships. That's it.
You said yourself, you like (love) the person.
I gotta believe, the rest of the league feels/will feel, the same, and after that clown (your avatar) that's been there, who was NOT liked, the Blazers
are somewhat "open for business" again.
IDK...just gotta believe good things happen to good people, and Mr. C. is "good people".

A GM can only do so much in the NBA. Wins and titles are in large part determined by a handful of players, and it takes a lot of luck to get one or more of those players.

I think GMs don't like other GMs who HAVE to win trades. Or maybe not even just win... but dominate. Ainge is like that. Kevin Pritchard was developing a reputation like that. I remember reading that a lot of GMs were bristling at the "Pritch slap" moniker. I'm not sure if that's how the league perceived Neil, but the guy just came off as such an arrogant prick. I would personally not want to work with him. He's the type A douche who everyone hates on their team, because he's proud of being an asshole.

Cronin might be more likeable, which might make him more approachable for other GMs, buuuuuuuuut I'm also worried that other GMs perceive him as someone who can be taken advantage of.

And Joe has some irons in the fire that we won't know how they turned out for a little while.

If Sharpe ends up being a superstar, that's a huge win. We have no idea yet how that will go.

GP2 might be an awesome signing.... or it might flop. We don't know.

Trading for Grant might be the piece we needed.... or he might pout and demand a huge payday. We have no idea.

There's so many moves that he has made in a short time that we need to see how they work out over the next year... two years.... three years before we know what kind of GM he is.

That is, as you admit, your perception.
I don't think anybody is trying to "fleece" anybody else.
Like the players, these GM's are so good, which is where the "building trust/relationships" come into play.
He'll be fine.
