Dame asks for trade (And there it is)

The public nature of all the posturing and negotiation is wild.

Why is Silver not fining Dame/Goodwin now for torpedoing any semblance of leverage we have?

I can’t wait for the Lillard, Goodwin, Cronin reunion show. Who will they get to host?

I would bet that his agent is telling him to keep quiet. I bet it's driving him insane.

Ha exactly. What do you think he would say if someone asked him if he would sit out if he was traded to NY or Boston?
Does anyone really think he would say he would not report? Do these fucking people think we are all idiots?

Because this is what he wants in the league. For people to talk about it.

It's why it's one of the worst things going sports wise. it's not about the sport drama, it's about the off the court drama.

I wish we didn't have an absentee owner at times like this.

Cronin has no juice.

Chauncey is not in the role even if he has the clout.

Who speaks up for the franchise?

I'm not talking Dan Gilbert and comic sans letter kinda commentary, but at least someone with a backbone who can stop this bullshit with one swift press release.

Say what you want about Olshey, but he did this. A few years back he was asked in a PC about Dame ending up with the Lakers and he laughed it off and reminded the media that he was under contract. No one even remembers it cuz he so quickly shut it down. The characterization above as "bullying" from Goodwin et al is spot on.

The new CBA has a clause about fining players who make public trade requests. Silver does not want this and has said as much repeatedly.

It's not his family. It's him. He is directly feeding things fo Haynes himself.

Haynes, yes.

But does anyone think Danny Marang is close with Dame? And clearly Hoopsjock has a source. I don't think it's Dame himself so I would guess it's part of his family.

And it's working. We theoretically have no other offers.

Their goal is to bully us into taking a bag of chips for him. Don't let them win. If he wants to be Ben Simmons Jr, let his reputation suffer. I don't believe for a minute he will sit out.

Because Cronin has zero gravitas (to use one of Neil's favorite words.)

He's a behind the scenes guy. Most GMs are arrogant assholes. That's just the nature of getting that kind of job. You don't mind being the head cheese. You don't mind taking all the heat. You don't mind having the buck stop with you. Cronin is a wall flower. He has zero charisma. This is why I was extremely unhappy when they hired him without an interview process. Can you imagine Joe having a good interview about the future of the team?

Cronin was hired to be the hatchet man and to take the fall for Dame failing to get to the finals (which the team knows they’re more than 50% responsible for). He’s John Nash II.

He might be much better than that; we shall see.

The more that Dame team continue to try throw there weight around if I was GM it would be least likely your going get what you wants. Cronin got the ball in his hands not Dame not his buddies and definitely not his agent. Cronin needs to get a package that's suit him and this organization. Find if Dame wants go Miami find we will send him there when Miami can come up with package that we will take. You make Miami to do all the work if it's getting a third team involved so be it. It's like I got the product and that's Dame now how bad do you actually want the product.

Not me. The last thing we want is an owner who gets involved in these types of decisions. They are too arrogant and emotional. Sure there have been a few owners in the past that were good at it. Jerry Buss was great, but his kids were not. These days all billionaires have made their money in non-sports-related industries. Look around the league right now and tell me how many owners you would want to be involved. Hell, even Jordan sucked at it.

Joe does not need to be a negotiator in this particular situation. He does not have to sell a player on why he should sign with the Blazers. He and his team just need to know which players and picks are going to help the team moving forward and who aren't. Then just shut up and wait until they come up with the package..... and don't bend over for them. He doesn't need any juice, he just needs to be methodical about it

I wonder if, ironically, this hard line bullying stance is going to have to opposite impact Goodwin/Dame intended it to have.

It’s not just Portland fans that feel rubbed the wrong way, the entire media is starting to express confusion over the bind that Dame has put the team in.

If it was a quiet friendly request, he might be in Miami by now. But by taking a hard line stance—and from that, having so many people nationally say “don’t back down, don’t be bullied”—I wonder if it is giving Joe a firmer backbone than he otherwise would have had.

Or at least that’s my hope.

At what point does Cronin just say “See you at Training camp”. If all we are getting is crap offers, the only leverage you have is to leave and take the ball with you. I want them to trade Dame too, but this feels like getting bullied by Goodwin and Dame. What do the Blazers really lose by refusing to trade Dame until Dame increases his trade list. If Miami really wanted Dame, they would be making moves to give the Blazers better assets. Didn’t Dame even acknowledge in May/June that he would be worth a lot in a trade? For the good of Scoot and Shaedon we need to trade Dame this offseason. But part of me would enjoy Dame sitting out and the baby Blazers some how shocking the world by being a competitive team. And the awkwardness of the whole situation at that point.

I don't think that's what the Blazers would do, but it's what the Blazers should do. Let him sit. Let him not play. Let him stew and make his diss tracks and send out his cryptic tweets. Meanwhile, the Blazers will move ahead with their young core and add another piece in next year's center-centric draft.

I think when you get to the point that you give a player one of the biggest contracts in NBA history and he's dictated EVERYTHING about his career and the future of your team while he's walking out the door, it's a horrible precedent and bad for the league. So just keep him and let the bad PR against him continue to build.

What a HUGE marketing opportunity for the Blazers!!!

Don't Trade Damian Lillard!!!!!

Some Math:
Next Year Damian Lillard will make $45,640,084
SOP is to fine him 1/82 of his salary for every game he doesn't report.
That's $556586.39 he's fined for every game he misses.
For Home Games, imagine that 20,000 fans attend.
That's $27.82/fan

So, you have a campaign that says
"Every time Damian Lillard misses a home game, fans get a fresh $20 bill, courtesy of Damian Lillard!!!"

"Go Blazers!"

Fans in the Rose Garden used to go nuts when they handed out Chalupa vouchers, imagine if they handed out 20's instead!

It will never happen, but it would be hilarious.

What if......
What if......

What if Cronin saw this scenario that is now happening, as a possibility? What if drafting Scoot was the insurance he had to buy so if the Dame trade scenario played out, we had a point guard who was more advanced than a kid coming out of college? Would that not muzzle some of the power that Dame has if he said...."I won't play if you trade me there?"

Not trying to start a conspiracy here, just pointing out that we know exactly dick, about what has or has not been said or done. We only know what has been chosen for us to know.

I want Dame moved, even if we don't get a huge return. I just don't want any long term large contracts.

Love it, but I think of it as "Trade Value" instead of reputation. Goodwin made a concerted effort to lower Dame's trade value, and the ability of the Blazers to make trades.

Paul was honestly no better at judging talent than Dame. Neither of them should have ever been involved with personnel decisions.

I stand corrected. I try to tune out the NBA as much as possible. It's an absolutely dreadful product right now, even with my limited viewing
