To get the 'Super Max' designated veteran contract, one of the following criteria needs to be met:
* The player was named to the All-NBA First, Second or Third team in the most recent season, or both of the two seasons that preceded the most recent season.
* The player was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the most recent season, or both of the two seasons that preceded the most recent season.
* The player was named the NBA Most Valuable Player in any of the three most recent seasons.
Siakam fell JUST short of getting onto the All-NBA team (by ~15 votes). If he makes it on there during the '23-'24 season, he can get 35% of the cap instead of 30%.... unless he's traded - then his max would be 30% until he completes 3 more seasons. Even though he's not currently eligible, he does have a decent chance of meeting the criteria this season.
