Did Dame honestly think that? Or maybe did he play along nice with that extreme long shot possibility to first secure the biggest bag possible planning all along to later force his way out to greener pastures alla James Harden or Kyrie?Part of the premise was “make the impossible happen” and “keep your stars happy by telling them what they want to hear”.
But let’s be realistic. Did Joe honestly think he would be able to trade 3 or 7 straight up for a star? That’s completely ridiculous on a number of levels
People & organizations tend to look out for their own best interests and it sure seems thats what all have done. Again, I don't think Joe survives if he preemptively trades Dame. Dame likely gets significantly less $$$ if he doesn't tell the organization what they want to hear too. The organization loses it box office draw (major $$$) if it moves Dame preemptively and alienates many more in the fanbase then letting Dame make the request. The way things have transpired, Portland has likely already added a couple big pieces for their rebuild and next will get to add to that with the expected return from Dame. Things have actually broken well for them.
I don't believe you are being realistic. This seems straight forward and many here have grasped the dynamics in play.
